I think the cube has the cpu power on the xbox too.
Its not all in the mhz. If I remember correctly, the xbox's cpu is more crippled than a celeron. I seem to remember an almost 2 : 1 ratio mhz wise with the powerpc vs intel back when those were the top chips. They are probably close in performance, with the cube winning due to its fast as hell ram, larger cache, more registers, killer fpu, and better ISA.
And the default hard drive in the xbox sucks bigtime. 1st thing any xbox owner should do is upgrade it.
Me, I'll use the cube for DNS servering over a titbox anyday. Its cheap, small, low power and I bet it runs for a decade; its quality built---xbox has always been cutting corners for its price.
for telling it how it is and will be. Product costs hardly are effected, but stock price goes up, ceos get raises, etc. The savings are not really passed to the consumer anyway! What savings are passed to the consumer; if any, as the parent points out does not help the unemployed or lower paid worker.
No the WTO can not prevent it going too far like some people think. The lowest bidder wins. Having it work is DEPENDANT on governments and peoples of the world standing up for a common standard of living. That is not going to happen...unless we have some sort of 1 world government...
I used to hate the dock. Now I've grown used to it.
It has some problems. OS 9's menus had some problems too.
At this point I do not know which I like better anymore. But with a 23" monitor, I'd have to say I like the dock better. Switching apps is much quicker in 10.3 than it would be in OS 9 for me SIMPLY because I have larger targets to click on with my very fast mouse.
Also I'm a slower reader than image recogniser. So the Dock helps me because I can read the icons much faster than text.
So I'd say I'm now a pro-dock person myself.
I ALWAYS was anti-apple menu guy. It should be the system menu, since its an apple-system. I gain that functionality with the Dock now, before I used app icons on my desktop.
I seem to remember that microsoft was PAYING to have WMA in players a while back... And mp3 was not free... I bet you that MS payed as much as mp3 cost, no wonder most the mp3 players also did wma. (also its not THAT different from mp3) It did not stick in my mind much because they throw $$ at everything they want.
MS is still stuck in the same grab then abuse pattern.
logic 101: not all liberals are bush haters not all bush haters are liberals not all conservatives are bush supporters most neo-conservatives are bush supporters many libertarians are against bush not all liberatians are (converative xor liberal)
One reason us thinkers are somewhat arrogant or appear that way is because we don't see in black and white, and get frusterated.
Think how you would sound if around some people that kept missing the obvious OR were so CLOSED MINDED they don't see any options.
Simplistically, I would either be SMART or STUPID or MIDDLE. Or to put it in modern/new-cold-war terms I could be called an irrational raging "liberal" simply because I oppose something accepted by the "conservatives".
No wonder Libertarian have such a hard time in the USA. They are pushed into a stupidly simple framework of thought. (heh, "thought")
On top of that many of the words have been destroyed. Making any talk of patriotism, liberal, conservative, religion, or freedom next to impossible.
Also, I said I'm outside the middle demographic. I could be placed on the stupid side. (somewhere--but simplistically, I'd just be stupid NOT half stupid, or stupid on this topic, or...)
And to say I implied that I'm completely open minded is also simplistic.
Why would anyone want to decode wma into a lossless format for playback? (wma, wav, aif, flac, etc.) You already lost data and you are not gaining anything except file size.
And why would you transcode the file anyway? Other than trying to save space or "port" the music to another format/app why would you do such a thing?
big deal, I can decode many formats to lossless formats like wav/aif and then encode into the best lossy codec: ogg
They just buffer the decompressed data--or pipe it---or save it to a temp file. Its a software feature, not a format feature. You can directly transcode many formats out there with a lot of software.
I have an iPod; I can play aif/wav on it if I want. I don't see how this is really any different, since all my software & hardware support both formats.
It was so STUPID I wondered how long it would take them. Then they kept doing it and now look.
I never thought we would suffer from it. They can kill that other crap, but mindstorms is GREAT! They should put more into it and then they could get adults as well as the kids without video games. Maybe then they will stay in business.
They are very high quality. its NOT just a plastic toy. You can't find anything that simple and that cheap with lego's level of precision.
The military used to buy some just to calibrate some of their gear. Its THAT precise. Maybe now there is other stuff, but back then...
Oh, another thing, if the speech is worded to spark memories of JFK, then they ARE trying hard to use it for re-election. In which case, I'd switch to saying they are despirate.
I'm no expert but from what I've seen its NOT realistic anytime soon.
On the NASA channel, I've seen interviews about this, and while some say yes, other experts say its not possible. For example, the expert on human biology, said its not possible because peoples bone mass goes down so much that they would be very weak by the time they got there even with doing everything we do now. It takes too long to get there.
Also was a ton of stuff about the protection the earth provides in its proximity which even goes as far out as the moon. It would be worse and longer term outside the protective field.
Don't forget the space elevator, something that could be done in 15 years with only 1 billion and would signifcanly lower the cost of the mars mission. (perhaps they could finally afford a large spinning torus)
Its purely political, and so is the leak. Its obviously calculated (and ironic.)
- my take on it - Its all about legacy. plain and simple. There are a few minor motives, but I would expect them to run with it. Sort term, I can't see people falling for it, or 'bush' even thinking the public will. Its a win-win situation. Real conservatives would not like this most, but have no alternative. As a re-election gimik is reeks of despiration, which is why I do not see it as their primary motive. In 20 years when mars happens, bush will get credit and it will help the next bush get elected. And yes, I think bush has a high chance of winning. An inanimate carbon rod could win with this level of backing.
How could anyone with eyes not be cynical by now?
It sucks to be outside the stupid middle demographic. When will they ever get it?
The G5 and the AMD64 are better than intel, and about the same speed. The difference is so little, all you need is some minor thing out of wack to put either one in "1st" place.
I'd consider the margin of error rather large in this case.

Ever since Gates realized that the web was moving so fast he would become irrelivant, along with many of us, he took over the entry point---the browser.
The sole purpose of IE was to kill the internet so he could build it in his image.
Since he got control in 1997 the web has 'died' and the brower was declaired 'dead' years ago. The progress made from 1993-1997 is nothing but amazing, and that same rapid pace stopped and has not moved much since 1997. Its mostly his fault, and the US government.
I along with thousands of people saw this for a decade and also knew why we do not have it NOW already. Bill Gates. Now he owns this idea, which is not his to own, we finally will see it come to light in monopoly fashion.
I saw an old newspaper clipping on this at least 5 years ago---and that clipping was old.
The "1st" bike had 2 wheels.

do{ fine(); wait(1);} while ( inViolation() )
that will stop them as long as fine is large enough and wait is short enough.
something like:
fine: windows profit for 1 quarter
wait: 1 quarter
Lets see how long they go having to give up half their profit...
THAT is how you stop corporations; take away the motivation ($$$) to violate the law.
A single fine is STUPID. period.
do {
fine 100 million
wait 6 months
} while ( MS illegally defines "Windows" as an OS when its a distribution and prohibit an MS distribution.)
Mod parent up.

beep beep.
no passing the buss when the stop sign is out.
Read the other posts and you should understand.

We all know Office is not a monopoly because its insanely great.
Sure some people might think that, but wether or not it is great (its not,) people don't buy the "best".
They also don't have the "best" marketing. They have a monopoly, years of illegal leverage, and closed data formats--very anti-internet age.
I remember the pre-monopoly days.

what changes?
Should I find and buy it or just go with the current stuff?

Surprised I had to scan down so far to see this.

How does one measure intelligent?
Do we qualify? (do we qualify as life?)
I can think of certain samples of people on earth that would not prove to be intelligent....
If an IQ of 100 is par, then certain leaders would fall short...(90 is 10 short of 100....)
WarioWare:
I second that! Its addictive and fun. Nothing comes close to as messed up. (but fun)
Viewtiful Joe looks interesting, but I doubt its as "new" as it looks; WarioWare takes the cake. (Wario World is fun too)
Dance Dance revolution is not NEW this year. The SIMS is not either, but both are part of new types of games. I think WarioWare is closest to that.
