  1. That's why I live here in the country, CT. I work at home and have plenty of parking on my 2 acre spread. But it sounds like a good idea.

  2. Another reason not to use apple products on Apple Patents a Way To Keep People From Filming At Concerts and Movie Theaters (qz.com) · · Score: 1

Thanks apple I guess I will use Android phones from now on....

  3. Must have gotten that way from sitting too long and drinking too much beer...

  4. I would tell them to go Fuck themselves and that I'm an American and I'm coming home they they can go fly. If they want that information they need to get a search warrant. I plead the 5th. I can sort of understand why these guys want to search your electronic equipment for possibly child porn or other illegal activities you might have done while out of the country. But access to my social media accounts? I'm sorry you have my answer, I plead the 5th and you can go fuck yourselves.....

  5. Looks on eBay, Craigslist and land fills all over...

The old tried and true gas delivery service is called AAA. Of course they will bring you gas if you were stupid enough to let it run out. They won't fill your tank but will give you a couple gallons so you can make it to the next filling station.

Not only that they have burried rubber barriers under the pumps to make sure that no petro-chemicals leach into the soil and thus the water table. They also have fire extinguishers and they have spill contingency plans in case of a spill. What does some clown sloshing around what could be a porta bomb in the back of his pickup have?

  9. Why? Because Larry Ellison is not a greedy and corrupt enough of a pig right now. He is trying to become a greedier pig. I say we all dump Java and kick it to the curb.

  10. Another Tablet? on Ubuntu Tablet Now Available For Pre-Order · · Score: 1

I have an iPad, a MS Surface and a Motorola Xoom tablet. I'm good for now with all the tablets. BTW the Motorola Xoom is pretty much already a Linux Tablet and the iPad is basically BSD at it's core. So why do I need an Ubuntu tablet in my life? If I need a new tablet I can get a current version of Samsung's tablet used on eBay for between 100 and 150 dollars and that would be like for the 32gb model.

  11. Actually it's a small blast since this same volcano has sent plumes over twice that far in the relatively recent past. This guy is a very active volcano if not the most active one in the Aleutian islands.

I don't think the FBI ever really needed to get into the phone. They have all the metadata and they know he never used the phone for personal business. They are chasing a pig in a poke. I would love to get a FOI on what was on the phone for data. That being said I believe that the FBI always had at their disposal to get the data themselves. It's just an iPhone 5c so it does not even have the fingerprint deal yet. Also I think the FBI might have thought hey we might just throw Apple a bone and let them help us out so people don't think their protection is crap, which it probably is. Since Apple did not play nice the FBI is now saying, hey we got and guess what Apple security is crap. Poor Apple they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. One thing I do know is they now need to go back to square one with their security...

  16. I bought a Retina ipad and I"m happy with it. I have the 64GB model and it seems just fine for now. I guess the pro model offered more space and a USB port? That would be nice but at this time not a deal breaker. How come Apple just does not give the ports that people really want on their tablets and phones for that matter. Here is my list of things that might get me to purchase a new one: a couple of USB ports, an SD port and an HDMI out port so that I can just hook this up to my TV and keep the free charging port. Apple seems to always minimize everything in such a Zen manner when these things would add functionality. Of course they must realize a tablet is something that you just don't upgrade all the time.

  17. Back in the day I used to be a cubical worker bee but I would never sit for hours on end. You have to get up and mill about every so often. You have to get up and make your way to the water cooler just because. One thing you can do is instead of pinging someone with Same Time or MS Lync you should walk over to their desk and if they are a couple floors above you use the stairs and get some exercise. I work remote now so I have to use the tools given me. I always like the face to face interactions with my co-workers and others in the company. It gave me exercise and I could get a better read on someone, body language, facial expressions and the like that you can't get any way else. My point is don't just sit there. Even working from home I get up and move about pet the dog look outside. Work standing up and sitting. They should not make a desk that makes you stand all day or one that makes you sit all day. Someone should come up with a desk that you can click a button and allows you to stand and then push the button and you can sit. That would be cool.

  18. The internet of things on FBI Warns That Car Hacking Is a Real Risk (wired.com) · · Score: 1

This is what happens when someone thinks it's a good idea to have real time connections of the internal workings of your Vehicles and appliances on the internet. How long has windows been out and they are still finding security flaws? How long has Linux and Unix been around, same thing? This OS's have been around for decades and we still have monthly patches on them. I kinda like older tech for my vehicles. I like carburetors and points and distributors, why because they are Simon simple and you can fix them in a rain storm on the side of the road unlike if you had some sensor go out somewhere in your car and you had to trace it back. Simple, tried and true is usually better than modern and convenient. Because when your life depends on something, that is the day it fails or gets hacked into. I can hack into someone's car and I can turn off their brakes and speed up their engine. You can even shift their transmission fort them. You can kill someone remotely with these vehicles. Nice to know...

  19. Should have done more due diligence when they chose their office building. I have Cox service here at home and it's 100 megabit and 20 mega bit upstream. I'm happy as a clam with it. The phone company, frontier (used to be AT&T) advertises that they have "high speed internet available." I look into it and it's only 3 megabit. The long short is the phone company does not want to spend money for a local click on my street. If this guy was the only customer then it looks like Comcast does not want to spend the investment when they might never break even. What needs to happen is you need to go to your town council and to your state dept. Utility control commission and let them know that you as a consumer are being left behind because these companies that provide utilities are refusing to bring good and appropriate service to your business or household. The town and state are the ones that can hold their feet to the fire on this.

  20. I really don't have any troubles with Windows 10. I don't agree that MS should force people to upgrade. If someone wants to be on an outdated system that they are happy with for whatever reason then let them be. I think all they need to do is just turn off automatic updates and then they can patch their systems manually from the MS web site. What I would like to see is MS come out with Windows 10 for the RT Platform. They put out RT and they are letting it die on the vine in favor of the Surface Pro platform. I have an Surface RT 128 tablet that I got cheap a couple years ago and it works great. Would actually like to see MS support it a little more than they do. They upgrade all their Nokia phones to windows 10 even the crappy 8GB models. They even have it on their phablet models.

  21. We need to have congress repeal the Patriot act. I bet dollars to doughnuts that most of those companies do not have enough cash to fight the government. I think Apple has plenty of resources. What we need is something like this to go to the Supreme court. I bet the Government would never want one of these patriot act seizures to make it that far as it would tumble down the pile of dominoes that the Patriot act actually is. I know that the Government came into the Windsor Public Library in Windsor CT and demanded the records of all the material that was being loaned by the library. The town librarians all refused to hand over the records. They stood their ground. They were threatened by the Government. When push came to shove and the case went to a federal court in NY NY. The librarians made the trip to NY NY and when they go there the Government decided to just drop the case. Why? I think because they don't actually want these cases to make their way into a real court and see the light of the constitutional day because none of them would ever past constitutional muster.

  22. I guess Apple has an order of magnitude greater amount of resources to fight the US Government. Of course the FBI and prosecutors don't really have a budget as they can spend enough money to put people on the moon to win in courts. The only thing we can do as citizens is to contact our legislators and tell them how we feel about the FBI wasting our money. We can also let them know about Lavabit being taken out of service because of the Governments insistence on getting into it's email system and how we do not want that to happen to Apple.

  23. How about making MS pay for all the BSD that they use in their IP Stacks? Of course you can't do that but I agree MS should endear trust and stop charging for the Android over it's alleged IP. I think MS should come out with their own Linux distribution. I think MS needs to port Office to Linux and Unix and since they have written it for OSX that should be a quick win for them. Actually they could port much of their languages to Open systems. That is a scary thought because MS might become a dominant force once again. Of course we have plenty of stuff to use on open systems instead of MS products.

  24. We will need one of those Antimatter / Positronic / Dilithium Generators. That will be the only thing that will get us up to warp speed and finally allow us to traverse the Multiverse.

  25. She created her own email server so that she could thwart FOIA Requests. That is the long short of it all. If she took that secure blackberry device and not used her own blackberry device she would be forced onto government owned email servers. Like everything Hillary does it's all shrouded in corruption. She is a one woman crime spree. She runs the Democrat party like a mafia don. She has a vast intelligence network that will take down people much better than Trump could ever dream of. If I were a democrat I would be voting for Sanders. Not because I agree with Bernie's politics but because in this presidential race Bernie is the only honest man standing. We will have a choice between a thoroughly corrupt Hillary or a bad acting Trump for president. I guess I will go for Trump as I don't think he is quite as bad as Hillary.
