Sadly, no. The graphics cards are a separate card, but not a standard PCIe card. Instead, the iMac uses a Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) with a custom Mac firmware.

Unfortunately, the Mac firmware is the biggest dealbreaker here, as it makes it nearly impossible to swap out unless you get a new card that already has Mac firmware or has a hacked firmware installed that OSX recognizes.

Valve's flagship, the Source engine, is a fork of the quake engine if memory serves.

The most recent version of the engine in a released game is the Left 4 Dead 2 engine, which added a few new features that weren't present in earlier version, such as the AI Director and the fog simulation.

Having said that, at some point OpenGL was dropped from Source, and finally re-added when the OSX version shipped.

I've heard that EA also added OpenGL support when they ported Orange Box to the PS3, but I don't think Valve reincorporated that into their own games, but instead wrote the OpenGL support from the ground up.

That's basically how it works here in Lansing, Michigan, USA... although our library system is not county-wide, it still has access to ILL requests and can get books from other regions, including at least two universities.

Of course, since Michigan State University is within driving distance, I'd be better off going directly there if I need books for research.

As far as I'm aware, our library system is funded completely through taxes.
