I agree, all pretty sucky at the moment, another year down the line of these sucky products getting up to the stage of not bad to pretty damn good and I'm sure you'll change your mind.
The first digital cameras where very sucky, now they're better than film (I'm not writing that for flame bite).
Oh yeah, I've even managed to set up my universal remote so the girlfriend can use it!!! Yep, made the on/off button clear and she hit's another button to fire off a macro to set up TV viewing (set correct AV channel on TV, select correct input on Amp, set up the digital TV box, etc in one hit). After that it's just the channel buttons or volume. Don't need to connect everything up with more wires to accomplish that.
Surely you geeks must have a kick ass universal remote (I have the Sony AV3000) which you can use? I've got about a billion cables running around my living room (PC, XBox, Computer, router, laptop, Freeview digital TV, Amp, playstation, etc...) any more cables would cause the floor to give way. At least with a decent remote with programmable buttons and macros I've managed to get rid of my 5+ individual remotes.
I agree about you point in getting used to the controller quickly. A pain in the arse at first which puts most people off immediatly (usually those who come round to have a go on your XBox to see why it's so amazing, then call it crap after spending 10 mins trying to come to grips with controller), but spend a day or so and it becomes part of you.
Yeah, I thought I would never get used to, let alone PREFER an XBox controller over a good ol' mouse and keyboard, especially after so many years of playing FPS.
Took about a day for them to become equivalant. Now I prever the pick up and play on the couch aspacts of an XBox and controller. You can always tweak the rotation speeds of the joysticks in most games (speed them up).
Wow, now I know where Windows XP copied it's interface from, blah, blah, bash, bash, more law suits.
If most of you geeks say that everything Microsoft does is rubbish, doesn't it make this interfeace shiit by default?
If I understand how this works, is there a sci-fi channel that will send me the latest enterprise episodes as they come to hand? what about a simpsons or futurama channel? Are there some examples out there already?
I have filled up my 20Gb Archos jukebox (had it for a year and a half now) and it is fantastic to have my entire music collection with me, don't have to muck around deciding what music I want to take with me today and download it once I know because I have it all!
I'm sure there are people that don't want to have all their music with them at all times, but it's pretty silly saying "Nobody needs to carry 20 gigs of music around in their pocket" when lots of people do for convenience. Added to that, you can use any spare space to store data you need to transfer from home to work, have on you just in case, etc.
Looking forward to having a few hundred Gb's in my cell phone, so I can carry all my movies around with me too... of course, nobody need to carry a few hundred Gb's around...;-)
I don't know, when I start most bittorrents up (like this one) they usually start off ok, then do the opposite of what they are supposed to do, they slow down!! Seem to get a burst of downloading for a few mins, then slowly go down to 0Kb/s. I just left it going for an hour and it ended up downloading around 14Mb and sat at uploading 0 and downloading 0. Weird. Anyone else have this problem?!
Right now I'm connected to 6 peers 23 seeds (total speed 1000 kB/s for everyone) and getting 1kb/s download and 7kb/s upload
Started off with 13kb/s upload and download then slowly went down. Damn.
Yep, 15 mins I can spend standing in line somewhere else.

Almost sounds like something public transport could provide... except you would have 4 people to a car rather than 1.

Excuse me for being dumb, buy why is everything going serial over parallel? I.E. Why is serial transfer faster than parallel transfer?
Yeah, check it several months after an episode has been released in the US.

How come I am uploading at around 25KB/s and downloading at 2Kb/s. Not speeding up, have been downloading for half an hour...
I learned this in School, around 20 years ago, yes, I'm a New Zealander. Good to see the States are finally catching up with the rest of the world...
