    The really strange thing is that the word has entered the mainstream with all the nuance that it has in the tech community. That's why people keep sharing life hacks I can do to simplify my X, for example.

    That was kind of the entire point being made here

    The point being made here (attempted), the headline in fact, is that widescreen laptops are dumb. They are not really, even if a lot of people don't like them. If you can't get your desired laptop screen ratio, that's unfortunate, but it doesn't logically follow that widescreen laptops are dumb. That's two-year-old illogic.

    The problem is that in many cities, by law, there can only be one ISP (at least for cable, for DSL you can usually get more than one, and dialup is still an option if you really want to be pedantic). This is basically cities screwing themselves, but it happens a lot.

    Good point. If the author is really upset that screens are not tall enough, he/she/it should stop sprinkling banner advertisements throughout the story. Clearly the available evidence shows this person does not actually care much about what they are writing about.

    Used to be when you paid for the OS, that was it. Now they want you to pay for the OS....And also endure advertising. In the past, I always kept a windows system around just in case. Now they have been ejected with prejudice. Microsoft has no reason to be taking data that would let them show ads.

    My mother said that when she was looking for retail jobs in the 60s and 70s, it was easy as hell. See a "Help Wanted" sign, walk inside, talk to the manager, have a quick interview, and if they liked you, you were hired.

    Well, I saw someone do that a few months ago in a smaller store at the mall, so maybe your friend needs to try different places.

    Don't know who is coordinating it, but it came right after the Uber "flood of bad news." I can imagine who did that one though, board members who were trying to get rid of the CEO.

    I don't think this is true. In Amsterdam, for example, it's illegal to be homeless. Not only are they down, you kick them while they are down. Not cool at all.

    They speak out their beliefs (be it controversial or not), discuss, argue and shout. On rare occasions they jump to each other's throats.
