Considering how few people actually BUY MS products in that part of the world, why sould MS care about the needs of the Chineese govt.?
The fact that important Chineese systems needing tight security are running anything MS is laughable anyway. (im not saying unix is nessicarily more secure than windows, thats arguable. what im saying is that if national security rides on keeping a server secure, you're gonna want to know a little something about the code you're running!)
This is just a thinly veiled attempt by the Chineese to position thier buisness sector for the upcomming Palladium/TCPA shit-storm.
Ha. At least you were not programming the Great Patriotic Game, comrade. How many "L" shapes can you program in Fortran before time and space is becomink meaningless.
Ecconomics didn't bring down the Soviet state, the dancing cossacks when you compleatink level5 did.
aren't most commercially used touch screen interfaces (such as cash registers, ATMs, etc.) *nix driven?
I don't think a linux tablet product is any more or less odd than a windows one.
I'm Mr. Average Invester. I find out that my #1 favorite stock i dumped thousands into on the advice of my dentist has recently fallen victim to a 11 year old IRC junkie.
Do I: a. invest more money in my company, showing appreciation for the companies candor. b. Murmur something very Zen to myself about the strongest tree bending in the wind, while noteing the fact that no real damage was done. c. put a humming bird to shame franticly clicking the refresh button on IE6, neuroticly waiting for the stock to move a tick up or down. d. scream "SELL SELL SELL" into my cellphone while barely avoiding a headon collision in my SUV. e. dump all of my money into precious metals and move to an obscure island nation in preperation for the inevitable global ecconomic collapse.
It probably has something to do with snorting a few lines, running around on stage screaming like a WWF reject, then chanting arcane mind-control mantras before a crowd of thousands of professionals trapped in a satanic IT cult.
In other words: 1- waiting for someone else to come up withe a breath-takingly good idea 2- waiting for that idea/product to flounder due to lack of funds/development 3- hireing the people who came up with this idea 4- ??? 5- Teh pr0phet!!!1
ok, serously. Besides providing a broad, 'stable' OS platform for application development, what has Micro$oft EVER contributed to the world of PCs.
The more I learn about Microsoft products, the more I see 'similarities' with other products that predated the MS ones. DOS is a ghetto low-octane version of Unix. 9x is Mac, only harder to use. NT server gave Novell a GUI. Ok, even the venerable *nix is based on previous works of xerox, IBM, US govt., etc, but it contributed to the industry... it made new things possible... it inovated. What has MS given us other than service packs, digital rights management, BSODs, and per seat/per server licences?!
I'm very new to the IT field, so maybe I'm just ignorant... but I can't think of a single MS product that features an original idea.
ok you made a good point. by computers i meant micro-computers.... should have been more specific.
I beleive i recall learning that motion pictures were invented by Kodac. Maybe it was just developed by Kodac. *shrug*
could have sworn mpeg was american. checked, you're right.
The internet was a paranoid fall-back plan of the DOD in case of WW3, so they'd have a backup method of transfering data.
'internet' and 'world wide web' are two different things (though those terms are often incorrectly used interchangably.) I don't know who invented the "www" standard (i could have sworn it was Berkley...?), but the internet existed LONG before the web, and i know HTTP/HTML is completely american in origin.
you're right about MPEG too. damn.
You're just pissed 'cause the whole technological world is fighting over something your country didn't invent.
Computers, america.
movies, america.
mpeg encoding, america.
networking, america.
P2P networks, america. IP NETWORKING, US Navy THE GOD DAMN INTERNET, america.
Wouldn't it be nice if the world was still fighting over silk, or tea, or spices?
and you thought HDD fans were just for those crazy OCing kids, didn't you?
I think a big part of why HDDs are failing is improper case ventalation (due to cheap-ass manufacturers not wanting to spend the extra 3 cents on a case fan, AND smaller and smaller cases beccoming more popular) combined with drives running hotter than previous ones.
A few days after installing a Maxtor 60gig, i was inside the box cleaning up the spaghetti and happened to touch the top of the Maxtor.... and was scared shitless to find that it was *HOT*.
10 minutes later $7 bought me a HDD fan/drive bay mount combo. nice and cool now, and i'd bet dollars to doughnuts my Maxtor 60gig will outlast any Maxtor 60gig without a fan.
PKWare no longer sells its products as shareware.
eh? isn't that oxymoronical?
wait, maybe im thinking of 'freeware'.....
shareware, freeware, warez.... makes no diff to Kazaa.
