The United States ceased to be a country of laws years ago. We are now a country of policy. It doesn't make any difference what the actual laws say; the administration is going to go by what they consider their "policy" is. The President is picking and choosing which law gets enforced.
You love it when your guy is in power, but hate it when the other party's guy is in power. Nobody is ever held accountable to a common standard. And thus we continue to slide into totalitarianism. This is how it can start, folks.
As for Snowden, I say he should get a pardon. Of course he shouldn't hold his breath until that happens.
The coal-fired electric generating plants will eventually all be shut down (thanks, Obama!); nuclear is never going to be accepted (or done right); natural gas is going to go through the roof when most of it is being used to generate electricity; and oil is considered a nasty fuel. Solar and wind may be nice, but they're years away from being able to supply our energy needs.
You better hope the Earth is getting warmer because that's the only thing that will keep you from freezing your ass off.

Contractors are required by law to have all underground utilities located before they start. Hitting a water line or gas line can cost them a bunch of time and money. They're a lot more careful nowadays, though sometimes the utility companies miss on their locations.
From Feinstein's point of view, and others like her, the United States IS the government and ONLY the government. Only things that threaten the government are relevant. Everything done in Washington D.C. is to make sure the government survives. They don't give a rat's ass about you and me. We're just the unwashed masses who they feed upon.
The trouble is that even if you find a good person and elect them to office, after they're there for a while they get infected with that chronic disease called power.
I've given this much thought and I really like the idea of limiting a person's political "career" to one term in one office, no matter what level of government they're elected to. So, if you're elected to your local city council, you can serve one term and never be eligible to run for another office on any level in your whole life. Sure, we'd get a bunch of amateur no-nothings, but it may be better than what we have now.
In other words, it's working just like it was planned. The goal was to destroy the health insurance companies and then go to a single-payer system. The disaster will come when that is realized. When your health care is in the control of the government, the government has you by the balls. Sounds great, huh?
Thousands of people are put under every day for surgery. Why not use the same tried and proven method of doing that to put the condemned out like a light? Then when he's totally out of it, cut his head off. We still know how to make guillotines, don't we? And when the French were using those to kill people, the ones being killed were wide awake.
An added benefit is that it might just get the attention of some politicians.
70 words per minute is relatively slow. A good touch-typist with a good keyboard could nearly double that. My late aunt Elizabeth spent her life as a legal secretary and could type 120 wpm on a typewriter (remember them?), and carry on a conversation while doing it. You're merely hunting and pecking at 70 wpm compared to somebody like that.

You speak the truth. I know a natural gas company right now that is installing a SCADA system. Why do they think they need it? I don't know, but I can tell you that they are a small system and don't need such a system. They operated for decades just fine without it. I think sometimes shiny new technology blinds managers to reality.
