They're allowing teachers to search and delete content from the phones. It's none of the teachers' business what is on the phones. The only time a teacher should touch a phone is if the student is using it in class: it should be confiscated for the day.
Here in the USA, it was determined decades ago that young people don't leave their rights at the schoolhouse gate (Tinker vs. Des Moines), but we continue to ignore that ruling for our own twisted ends.
Coaches rarely go for it on fourth and short as much as they should. Gregg Easterbrook touts going for it on fourth down more often based on the fact that an NFL down averages a gain of 5 yards and other factors. He's mentioned a high school coach who almost never punts, and who has a really good win-loss record to show for it. I'm not sure I'd go that far as a coach, but I have to say that the next NFL coach to punt inside the opponent's 40 yard line should be fired immediately.
False dilemma. Safe drilling doesn't kill fish, and drilling on land is safer than in the sea; BUT ideologues like our president, Al Gore, and a host of special interest socialist organizations claim otherwise because they WANT oil drilling to be risky so that the public opinion will sway against it. We need oil and natural gas NOW, while we keep working on other energy sources for later.
I'm talking about in the short term. We are still in an economic downturn, and looking at a "double-dip". We can NOT recover if some uninformed ideologue's idea is to artificially raise prices to levels that the middle class cannot afford so that we all essentially end up on the public dole when the system collapses. The only outcome is a state capitalist economy like China's.
Many of the schools make up to ninety percent of their revenue from U.S. taxpayers
Those are LOANS that must be repaid... with interest. Besides, how many students pay their way through ivy league colleges which are "non-profit"? I'm sure the number is about the same, as if it matters.
Remove the subsidies, then approve all the permits. Because he's turned the BP spill into a tool for his mission to make energy prices skyrocket. Only ONE permit has been approved since the dubious moratorium was lifted last year.
This strategy for dealing with trolls ends up sounding very similar to the advice given by Dale Carnegie in "How to Win Friends and Influence People". This book is now nearly 80 years old (and the talks it is based on are even older), but changes in culture and technology really don't affect human nature. Internet trolls are really just egregious forms of the jerks you encounter in every day life. Every time you encounter some difficult person, you have to remember that getting want you want is more important that "being right" or "winning". That might even sound selfish at first, but with this kind of attitude, everyone wins because it encourages cooperation instead of conflict. Carnegie focused on humans' feelings of self-worth, so ultimately you're combining the golden rule with negotiation to achieve success. Of course, you should just read the book because you're not going to get much out of my second-hand interpretation.
It's too bad that I posted already, because someone modded the parent "troll" when, frankly, it is insightful. What's the difference between a bunch of Klan members who advocate the subjugation of differing races but never hurt anyone, and a Muslim who reads a Qur'an that advocates subjugation of differing religions but never hurt anyone? It's worth thinking about if you haven't already.
You don't have to take parts of the Qur'an out of context to see the statements of violence and anti-semitism. It specifically advocates the killing of Jews and apostates, and the subjugation of unbelievers. I have the backing of the imams on this.
Hey, Captain Working Class: instead of buying that second six pack of PBR, why not feed an impoverished family in Liberia for a week? Or, if you believe charity starts at home, try one of my preferred charities.
Because we have a perfectly good constitution that doesn't need to be "fundamentally transformed". We believe in the rule of law, not men, so the only "revolution" that needs to happen is to kick the lawbreakers out of our government-- and imprison them, if necessary.

And downmods are for me for chastising the leftist Slashdot elite.

Never heard of the "gentleman's C", eh?

What parallel universe are you posting from? That doesn't sound like the USA I know. How about this: 90% of statistics are made up in Slashdot posts.
Ask any veteran of WWII submarines, and they'll tell you that water is deadly.
There are states where the gasoline tax is over $1 a gallon. And fuel is not a critical item? We need it to perform labor. Oh, and heat homes.

If I suggested wiping an OpenVMS server to correct a problem, I would be laughed at... at best.
