    The only difference is the plot command. The Apple II also had one. I don't recall with the C64, but with a VIC-20 you could buy a Super Expander for $50 and get circle and line drawing functions, sound commands, and 3K of RAM. Of course, the circles took an entire second to draw! But without that, yes, you had to build loops with POKES for each pixel.

    Fortunately, the Spectrum line never caught on much in the USA-- mostly because once the C64 game out, you could get a VIC-20 for the same price.

    The word "marriage" was invented by the Latins circa 1000 BC and defined to include any kind of coupling whether male-female or same-sex.

    No, it comes from the Latin (Latin is the language, Romans were the people) word "maritaticum" which merely means "to give in marriage" or "to wed". To find more insight, I researched "marry" and found that it comes from "maritare", which was used to mean "provided with a young woman". So, I guess gay marriage is OK as long as it's two lesbians-- since we're appealing to the Latins^H^H^H^H^H^HRomans authority.

    Let's just remove all government authority to "license" marriage. Then we can see what everyone on both sides of the debate REALLY want.

    In case you didn't notice, there is more to the USA than California and Florida. That's a PLUS in the northern areas where sugar cane won't grow.

    I guess you have me beat in age; my email only goes back to 1996. But I did have to migrate my data from a non-IMAP email program (PMMail) to an IMAP one (I think used Outlook XP) so that I could upload it to my IMAP server.

    I once read an post on USENET (probably somewhere in comp.os.os2.*) in which the claim was made that Pournelle couldn't find his own ass with a map and a flashlight. I would concur, but feel that perhaps if he had access to modern GPS technology he could have found it (with the additional help of a few Boy Scouts that had both the Computers and Orienteering merit badges).

    It's funny that you claim all this, yet we have clinical trials to show that you're wrong. SOMETIMES attitude works. It doesn't seem like a stretch to me that a positive attitude helps the body fight off illness. Why is it that when we suggest this, people react as if I suggested that the FSM cures cancer? We're talking about the body's immune system here.

    Actually, legal tender IS what they're obligated to take. They can take legal tender AT FACE VALUE, or forgive the debt. They don't have to pay the actual value of a silver dollar (about $23 just in bullion right now).

    I don't think I'm being too demanding to ask whether a world where pedestrians can cross a highway anywhere, anytime is more dangerous than one when they must use a crosswalk. If CA actually has laws like the former, that needs to be fixed.

    I doubt it. In all the states I've lived in, pedestrians have the right of way IN A CROSSWALK. Obviously, if they're jaywalking it doesn't give you the right to commit manslaughter, but the survivors should be ticketed.

    We don't want to go all reductio ad absurdum here, do we? If we wanted to be really safe, we would set a speed limit of 5 MPH, require sirens and flashing lights on all vehicles, and require 360 degree wraparound rubber bumpers.
    Drivers are expected to be competent and aware. If they aren't, that's what we need to fix
