    Err... the problem with fluorescents is that the light they give up is already eerily white and unnatural. Incandescents and the sun give off yellowish light.

    Hmm... I guess human rights violations only happen in the USA! I don't know why anyone wants to live here! After all, the Sudan, Somalia, Iran, China, Cuba, and North Korea are much better places to live! You don't have to worry about religious or ideological persecution there!

    You can do whatever you believe is in your family's best interest, but I believe you totally overreacted. Electrical fires are a lot more common, but I'll bet you don't panic every time you flip a breaker or a GFI.

    By pardoning Nixon, Ford stopped all of the investigations and set the US up for another Imperial Presidency.
    You mean Jimmy Carter's? We voted him out after one term because of his incompetence.

    We haven't had an imperial presidency since ol' Four-Term-FDR.

    It's useless. IT departments impose draconian mailbox limits for the following reasons:

    - Software can't handle it (too cheap to upgrade)
    - Lack of server resources (too cheap to upgrade)
    - "Email is not a storage system" (dogma and hyperbole)

    Microsoft's DeAmicis's talk will convince no one to change anything. The latest MS Exchange (among most other corporate messaging systems) can easily handle 2 GB mailboxes.

    Latency is high with analog modems primarily because they're analog, and must take multiple readings of the line voltage and average the results. Otherwise, the error count would be insanely high. The error correction and compression also increase latency, because each packet must be held and analyzed.

    You believe wrongly. This is not true in the USA; however, it IS true in the UK.

    The "S" in USB stands for "serial", so I assume you mean RS-232.

    Chinnery says he's accepted the fact that he'll have to use the utility to fix his Windows 2000 systems. But, lacking an easily deployable patch, it means he must walk around to tweak each machine in his organization.
    While I don't understand why MS did not release the patch for an OS that is supposedly still under support, this guy is either lazy or ignorant. Not only does regedit work remotely, but he can also put the TZ changes into a reg file, which is just text, and kick off a remote script to apply it on each of his servers.
