    Except Windows 95 is really broken. Trust me on that! Netware, on the other hand, is pretty solid (except for 4.11 out of the box. That thing needed a few patches).

    This is simply just the same old straw-man argument that pops up in these discussions. Despite your tired stereotype, not every American drives a gas guzzler. I wish I had a Hummer so I could sell the overpriced thing and buy more gas for my fuel-efficient mid size car. Gas is still expensive even when you get over 25 MPG.

    Using a type-R for your powerband comparison is rather stacking the deck in favor of diesels, isn't it? I can assure you that my GM V6 or even the Quad-4 engine in my old Buick didn't have to rev to 8500 RPM for peak power.

    I don't buy several gallons of shampoo a week. I can also use coupons on shampoo or buy it in bulk, neither of which is possible with gasoline.

    Would you prefer to have the patchwork system that made itself into a DBMS at some point after it's wide adoption, or the one that started out a relatively proper system and then just tweaked things to get performance gains?
    Why are new features considered "patchwork", while performance enhancements are considered "tweaks"?

    I thought it might have more to do with the fact that most theaters still have 35mm projectors running at 24 fps. Upgrading costs money that many theaters aren't convinced would draw bigger crowds.

    George Lucas even admits the sibling relationship between Luke and Leia was a very last minute thing while shooting Jedi, because he didn't know how Vader would anger Luke during their final duel. So at the last second, he invented that relationship.
    That's funny, because this was first hinted at, then later revealed, in ESB.

    Saying that the Penguin video must have been made for Exxon because they're a client of DCI is a rather tenuous connection. I think they have other clients-- and the fact the video was traced to a DCI employee still doesn't prove that it was an official company product.

    Clearly, national leaders are not intended to follow New Testament principles. If you're going to pretend that you understand biblical teaching and suggest that pacifism is a viable philosophy under which to run a nation, then you have to accept the underlying premise: which is that the only just government is that with the Lord as its head. Israel was run in that manner in its early days, with the earthly authority being the Judges.

    I didn't think you would agree.

    Also, being as Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 (but won the electoral), I would expect that he would lose a lot of exit polls in such a close call.

    The meta-amusing part about the whole "flying spaghetti monster" satire is that it has very little to do with the Judeo-Christian beliefs it means to deride. There is nothing in any biblical writing that describes what God looks like, other than that man is "in his image". Artists have rendered their impressions of God as an old man with a long white beard, but they might as well put a red hat on him and call him Santa Claus because none of it is biblical. Mythological works, on the other hand, describe their gods' physical attributes in detail: carries a big hammer, has a dog head, extra arms (although not always the same number), etc.

    Don't even get me started with Anglo-Jesus and winged, female angels.

    Yesterday at work I crashed Word on one machine
    Likely an application, not an OS, error.
    and had another not recognizing a working smb/cifs share.
    Networking is not automatic on Linux, AIX, Solaris, VMS, or MacOS (unless you're still using Localtalk).
