We are such a bunch of nerds. We're looking up money laundering on Slashdot.

  2. You're right, they are connected. In our economy, people need to go places and services exist to serve them. Cities decided there were "too many cars" and established medallions/licenses to create artificial scarcity. So the market sensed the damage, and routed around it. Now it's even messier, isn't it? It's almost as if it's more complex than the enlightened socialists would claim. Perhaps they should take their arrogance and shove it up their posteriors, and let the adults clean up their mess.

Why don't you skip a few steps, have the government buy Uber, and then you control their wages directly? I'm sure that will work perfectly.

I mean, since you believe you, the government, are entitled to dictate to everyone how they will live, why not keep it simple, and make them work for you? Then there is no guesswork.

  4. The guns that are allowed are tightly regulated.

Yeah-- you can't have them in London and certainly not without being a member of a shooting club WHICH COSTS DUES.

  5. You're assuming it isn't already wafer-thin, as it is in many industries like supermarkets and some restaurants. It's fun to always assume that business owners are rich robber-barons and there's always surplus profit to be skimmed.

  6. as long as it is what it purports to be: a basic, living amount of $. ALL OTHER BENEFIT PROGRAMS END.

Good luck with that. Hundreds of thousands of government employees who administer those programs would oppose it. No tax or government program ever goes away.

  7. I think you have some valid points, but you'll have to speak up. I couldn't hear your insights over the racket of all the command economists' necks snapping as they flipped from criticizing Uber drivers from stealing taxi drivers' business to pitying Uber drivers for having a poor quality of life.

Nader is a selfish cock whose data on the Corvair suspension issue was obsolete, as it had already been fixed for the 1965 model year. Instead of correcting his book before publishing it, he put it on the market to quickly collect his profit and contributed to the failure of the (now much safer) Corvair and probably causing many people to lose their jobs.

    FM Cleaning

DO NOT CONNECT TO FM RADIO FROM MARCH 31st 23:59 pm (GMT) UNTIL 12:01am (GMT) APRIL 1st.

    *** Attention ***

It's that time again! As many of you know, each year FM radio must be shut down for 24 hours in order to allow us to clean it. The cleaning process, which eliminates dead left-wing talk radio and inactive top 40, classic rock, and adult contemporary stations, allows for a better-working and faster FM.

This year, the cleaning process will take place from 23:59 pm (GMT) on March 31st until 00:01 am (GMT) on April 2nd. During that 24-hour period, five powerful FM radio-crawling robots situated around the world will search the FM radio and delete any data that they find.

In order to protect your valuable data from deletion we ask that you do the following:
    1. Disconnect all terminals and local area networks from their FM radio connections.
    2. Shut down all FM radio servers, or disconnect them from the FM radio.
    3. Disconnect all disks and hardrives from any connections to the FM radio.
    4. Refrain from connecting any computer to the FM radio in any way.
We understand the inconvenience that this may cause some FM radio users, and we apologize. However, we are certain that any inconveniences will be more than made up for by the increased speed and efficiency of the FM radio, once it has been cleared of electronic flotsam and jetsam.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Sysops and others: Since the last FM radio cleaning, the number of FM radio users has grown dramatically. Please assist us in alerting the public of the upcoming FM radio cleaning by posting this message where your users will be able to read it.

Please pass this message on to other sysops and FM radio users as well.

Custom character design? I'd been working with BASIC on an Apple II+ at school for about a year before I got my VIC. I basically skipped the first half of the programs in the manual, did all the ones that used the sound stuff (since the Apple didn't have that capability) and then did the cool games in the back. Never got to "custom character design" until I got a programmer's guide to learn how to put it into bit addressing mode. Unless you mean making a little dude out of the PETSCII characters...

I think most people's very first program was this:
    10 INPUT "HI! WHAT'S YOUR NAME";A$
    20 PRINT A$;" IS DUMB!!!!"
