I also have found that windows is easier to configure. There is a GUI for changing windows resolutions, adjusting monitor settings. Windows related configuration options are available in one centralized control panel. I have found the configuration is easier in Windows. I bought a new Wireless card a few days ago. I just plugged it in, and Windows went to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, downloaded the driver and installed it. Then it found the correct channel, and automatically configured my internet connection, and notified me with a little balloon. Can you please explain the simliar steps to use the internet with a wireless card via the distribution you use? How about SMB Sharing? I just click on "My Network Places" and a list of all the available computers pops up. How about just using a floppy. If I put in an unformatted floppy and click on its icon in Windows, Windows will ask me if I want to format it. In Linux, you have to mount devices. And yes I have used automount, and it did not work properly. And please feel free to respond with "you aren't smart enough for linux", which really means "i refuse to admit windows can do something better."

You say familliar things. I have experienced them myself. But I think now that Debian is overall better than w2k (dual-boot). Things are done differently with Debian, you have to know what you're doing. If you don't, you RTFM, ask people around. After the "training", you become more proficient, you've learned something useful.

    Point in case:
I've learned to use apt-get, now installing (and searching for needed things) is really easy, not as it is considered easy on Windows. Apt-get really makes difference for me. Yesterday, I have configured Sawfish, mapped certain keys to increase/decrease volume (aumix) and next/play/pause/prev (xmms). That makes listening to music easier.

I don't use windows explorer equivalents (they're buggy I agree) on Linux, I use bash, and I recently migrated from jEdit to VIM.

If you don't want to know how things work, don't want to go "native", you're better off with a system that doesn't require you to know how things work. If you don't work much with computers that should be fine for you. If you do, however, spend much time with something, it is more pleasure to have deep understanding of it. Sometimes you'll have to do something you don't know much about. If you click your way through or find and execute some obscure steps to resolve the problem, you're exacly where you were before, no knowledge gained. Next time this problem arises, you do similar steps...

OTOH, my bash & vim configs don't need to be re-clicked through on a new machine, I have copied them from my work machine to home one. You get the picture.

Doesn't change anything for mass-pirates. Having someone buy a CD and put ISO on FTP shouldn't be that expensive. Also, real pirates don't need RIPs, they need originals (iso, vob). Why they need originals? Because there are people that want best quality there is, so, if you RIP you have 2 versions to sell, and that does matter because $9 DVDs are way too expensive here

No one can claim that Pokemon isn't anime.

Your definition of anime must be filtered through some kind of goggles. Prehaps you've focused on what you've seen as most significant or interesting, and ignored the majority of japanese animation. (Or maybe you rely on importing companies to do the filtering for you)

Majority of what I've seen is very different from Pokemon, in fact, Pokemon is the only anime that I digust. Since I don't speak Japanese I depend on Englihs subtitles, so, my input is filtered by people who do them.

The content of Pokemon is exactly in line with the majority of anime. 80% of anime series (and a higher proportion of total episodes) are basically childish trifles and/or longrunning toy commercials. The only major distinction between those anime and American cartoon shows is the language, the attitude towards musical lyrics, and the much higher degree of continuity (something Pokemon shares).

Don't you find that Pokemon caters to US (as *not* in Simpsons) cultural stereotypes, as opposed to, say, Sailor Moon?

Look at the current Anime broadcast schedule [sakura.ne.jp] to see what I mean. Only 2 or 3 titles approach your lofty definition.

    Miyazaki is an unrepresentative abberation.

I only recognize one title, "Wolf's Rain", which I haven't seen, but heard it was good. So, it will be safe to say then "Pokemon is the worst anime I've ever seen". Among the good titles I've recently seen (FMP, Ayashi no Ceres, Witch Hunter Robin, Sen to Chihiro) only one is by Miyazaki. Though Robin is somewhat americanized IMO.

Honesty and ideas (YMMV). Anime depicts social interaction and discusses questions that you encounter in life, and shows a solution sometimes(?). Note, I consider Pokemon anime only by form, but not by content (it's an US-adapted form of anime, IMO)

You absolutely must watch anime with original Japanese sound, people do speak different in different countries, not only language is different but voice intonations as well. Most important, adaptation is by definition a process of tailoring a thing to some other culture, so that target auditory could understand what is happening without much effort on their part. And so, they lose the chance to understand the culture that created the thing...

To have a possibility to understand anime fascination you should watch it, uncut and subtitled.
