( It is, pretty much, the only thing we import from India )

The box still had the seals in place, but when I got it home and pulled them from the box, it was obvious they had already been opened. A few pieces were missing and, upon closer inspection, there were hairs stuck to the earphone cups indicating these had been worn.

I ended up returning them to the store for another pair.

Retailers act surprised when I decline to take the floor or demo model and I tell them that I don't want the model that everyone has fondled, picked up and played with as the likelihood of said item having some issue requiring its return is too high. Especially if it's a high value item.

  5. Perhaps Microsoft is " fixing " more than what they say they are.

The real question is, while they say they are doing X, what else are they doing under the hood that they don't bother to say anything about.

  6. The tech companies face a choice:

Submit to the will of India ( and set a precedence ) or lose that very lucrative market.

Going with the former will see other countries follow suit with demands of their own. The latter will cause a shareholder revolt.

The USG will also want encryption broken, they just won't demand it publicly and since you were kind enough to do it for India . . .

    A difficult choice is coming.

Dollar stores exist because the folks who aren't doing very well financially need somewhere they can go to buy basics. When even WalMart is too damned expensive for a non-trivial number of folks, there is something terribly wrong with the wage levels in this country.

I'm guessing if we bothered to do something about the income inequality gap, there really wouldn't be much of a need for a Dollar Store in the first place.

Since that is unlikely to ever happen ( didn't happen under Democrats when they were in charge, didn't happen when the Repubs were in charge either ) I suppose the big grocery chains could take it up with our inept Congress about how unfair things are that they can't compete with the Dollar Stores.

( Which is ironic because the big chains are what drove the Mom & Pop stores out of business in the first place )
