I think the guy above was simply pointing out that respecting other societies/cultures is important. A country may abuse it's citizens or whatever, but let's not allow a single company to dictate what that is.. It's especially concerning when that company is associated with the country which saw fit to through the Geneva Convention out the window (loophool my backside).
We live in a sensitive society, and sure PC can get out of hand, but stomping about in size-10-billion-a-day boots isn't right either.
This has been an issue in Explorer for years, just about every page i visit tries to convince me I'm using IE with it's adverts.. Obviously I'm not fooled because I'm running Firefox on Linux, so why would there be an XP application running??
This is pretty much the same thing, except that the gui is not gifs and JavaScript..
Sure some XUL securing could probably be done, but by no means has anyone bashed MS becuase of this, it's a spam tactic.. been around since win95 days.. maybe before that even..
I agree, crappest site, trying to do something cool, acutally removes all usability. However, crap cinema too;) Like being herded like cattle. UCI Cinemas have a very usable site, but their booking system does use flash, but even if you don't have flash you can see times and if there's availability.
I had the same issue with the uk jobcenter site, they provide a text version, but there's no job search.. bloody stupid really!
I sent them an e-mail, even indicating which JS script was to blame, and how to fix, got an email telling me to visit a different site.
Why not pass on my info to someone who could edit 1 file and make the thing work again!?
I think there's more too it than standards here (at least directly).
It's not that they're not using standard html code, it's the fact that AFAIK they're not really using html at all. They look to be using Html Application type stuff provided by IE, which makes it sort of like an applet crossed with the stuff outlook does with IE to run itself.
The only way to cross browser this is to build an API which uses IE hta, XUL in mozilla and DHTML in all else. Not impossible, and a fully cross platform API like that would make loads of developing easier.
Wales is a country! So is Scotland and England.. They make up Great Britain, which is NOT a country, but part of a Kingdom (which includes Northern Ireland, a province).
Have no doubt, wales is a country. these are not "states". Wales is not in England, not is Scotland. Note World Cup countries, England, Wales and Scotland all have their own teams..
If anyone is dumb enough to connect one of these suckers, without a good firewall, to the net, then it's a SPAM Relay waiting to happen.. I'm no the most anal about letting people know my root password, but it's certainly better than:
HomeMediaCentre
And *not* published in publically (or even privately) viewed documents!
my understanding was it said OF CHIPS PRODUCED, not of wafer used.. so 99% is pretty possible, given the mental procedures and clean rooms in chip production. I visited a Fujitsu one, the slightest vibration would wreck a plate, so counter measures are used all over the place so that all vibrations are absorbed, at such microscopic levels its all or nothing.
Erm. Isn't the X-Box a total waste of money for MS? Losing A bomb (article here) on it in the hope that it'll blow competitors out of the running so they can inflate the price and recoup the loss then.
The fruit shop up the road from me did the same thing.. dead cheap for a while, but once all the others closed down they upped there prices, only where else am I gunna buy fruit now?
erm, check the article, it doesn't say IIS it says Windows! 50% win, 50% non-win (mostly unix/linux).
1: The windows machines *could* still be running apache, many people do.
2: It also states more unix based machines do a lot of virtual hosting... so because the OS is better at hosting it's a bad thing?
3: Many of these windows machines could be accidentally running IIS services or Personal Web-servers because I don't reckon my mum knows how to turn it off, does yours?
Send me an Gmail invite, and maybe I'd agree and mod you up!

Yeah, it looks a little like a cross between those handheld TV's you got in the 80's and something from Star-Trek in the 60's

Micro$oft's beloved palladium would have solved their leaky memmos.. admittedly it would probably mean more leaky software, but still...
Hey - maybe they leaked it on purposes so they can say "Ha! See-- told you we need to controll ALL documents a computer produces!"
