Given some of the responses to my above statement I totally agree.
And just to prove I am the bigger Simian:
I apologise unreservedly to all chimps everywhere for any insult that was taken from my statements. I see the error of my ways and am happy to state that, given the evidence that has come to light, that chimps are far and away more valuable to our world than almost all the mouth breathers I have witnessed on the internet.
And AFAIK it is the most popular one (used across many fields) because of how practical it is.
You forgot the DSM manual. A much better target.
This is a book written by a bean counting bureaucrat that attempts to document a range of disorders, most that exist on a spectrum, and box and label them as if they were discrete. This causes all other small minded authoritarians to be able to wave it around like a bible thinking that they and their label maker can categorise everyone (except themselves) into little belittling boxes.
The real joke is they don't really help with treatment much and in fact tend to pathologise people making it worse.
That is what peer review, replication of results and further study are for...and I am biting my lip not to add "dumbass" to the end of that sentence.
And BTW: those things are already happening. Other scientists are critiquing (constructively rather than your sort of nonsense) and others are carrying out new experiments in the same and novel situations to eliminate confounds. You know, the scientific world doing what they do.
What I find absolutely amazing here (apart from the *potential* discovery) is how everyone is more interested in bagging on the science than commenting on how this might be a major breakthrough after NASA (FFS) has been confirming the results.
Yes, it may not be as it is. But it is also WAAY too early to cry foul.
Some days the internet its like watching a tribe of chimps...
>Aside: For those wondering why economists are so scared of deflation, it's because it destroys the rationale for people to save and invest.
Dude, you have that backwards!?
Deflation means your money goes UP over time. It means people are more likely to BURY their money than take risks on the stock market.
But the real reason that deflation is so scary is in fact the debt addiction that everyone has.
Effectively the entire economy is negatively geared. It is in a "grow or die" scenario. If you grow, you take away interest and have less growth. But if you shrink, you shrink by a LOT more than the growth loss and risk a death spiral. (e.g. capital flight etc)
Just because you back one thing of perceived value with another thing of perceived value does not make it less than arbitrary. Although I will agree backing it with gold makes it "less arbitrary" it is still arbitrary. Not that this is possible anyway since moving a large economy to this would cause a disaster scenario in the price of gold and there is not enough gold for this anyway.
Nice try though. I always try to encourage the less equip. But since you obviously have trouble using google I have gone and made it nice and easy for you:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory
You will note it proves my case...or not. Either way I am done with this discussion.
Attempting this in the way they did AT ALL was a mistake. It was so obviously doomed from the start someone should be sacked over this.
>>[O]ur main goals were to allow mod makers the opportunity to work on their mods full time if they wanted to,
BULLSHIT.
If that was the case you would not have given them 25% and taken 75% for you and the game makers. That is just blatant and exploitative greed on both your parts. You should be ASHAMED that you and your inept marketing department, board or management ever thought this would result in a positive sentiment. I mean how out of touch with your customers do you need to be?!
A theory is just as it states, a theory. Testing of the theory simply serves to give "weight" to said theory when comparing it to other theories describing the same domain.
An untestable theory might very well be something that is less important to discuss as part of scientific discourse (it has no "weight") but it is still a theory.
You explanation was not necessary. I was not referring to the definition, but to the use of the word in of itself as a means to make a crime worse than it is as in the source post.
An amusing example of false causation due to correlation.
You put two things together enough and people add their own glue. Especially when they think it makes them or something they are saying sound more important...
I love how you US people's use the word Felony as if it all of a sudden makes an act worse that it actually is. Its not a magic word.
The act is as bad as it is. Just because a bureaucrat somewhere decided a different classification should be used to describe it means nothing except more prison time...because of said bureaucrat.
Quite ridiculous.
That's not just murder, that's FELONY murder. That person is even more heinously dead now!
He didn't just steal a car, that is FELONY stealing of a car. The car is SOOOO much more stolen.
My penis is not just a normal penis, its a FELONIOUS penis. What does that mean? Its an awful lot longer...
Aside for those directly involved, it is a sad day only for the aussie economy to an order of a rather insignificant magnitude. Otherwise...meh.
I have always found the bending over forwards governments do for the movie/game industry when they would rather eat hot coals than do it for anyone else due to their ideology. In NZ they *changed employment law* a few years ago (AFAIK an unprecedented move) to avoid "losing" the hobbit filming and they were already giving massive tax breaks. (and that was a right wing government)
If that were a sound idea then why not do it for more industries? But they tend not to.
No prizes for guessing why the movies are different. Games, not too sure about that one.
:)
Nothing more need be said save to appease the minimum comment requirements imposed by slashdot.

Live long and prosper.
Stop being willfully moronic.
NOTHING is known to be IMPOSSIBLE. It is fundamentally impossible to prove something is impossible.
What we have reported here is an interesting experimental result that is being tested as it should be.
It is too soon to cry "Eureka!" but also too soon to be pontificating as if you have a clue about this which you quite obviously don't.
No one would ask you to since you have no experience in the field...
You forgot an investment with a 10 year warranty and the potential for increases in savings as power prices rise.
And all tax free. (initial cost may even be tax deductible in some places)
So 14.5% return per annum tax and risk free?!
You will not find that on the stock market...legally anyway...
HAH!
And AFAIK it is the most popular one (used across many fields) because of how practical it is.

Way to point out the obvious....of course they will.
But the lobbyists on BOTH sides will descend and americans only get to grab the popcorn and watch to see whose corporate money wins.
American "democracy" in action....

Apart from that, you were making sense...
!WRONG!
FIAT
noun
a formal authorization or proposition; a decree.
"the reforms left most prices fixed by government fiat"
an ARBITRARY order.
It is in fact the very definition of the word and the reason it applies to currencies.
Please try again and remember to do your homework this time...
All currencies are Fiat.

very funny.

But then again greed blinds...

Not to nitpick: but no you are wrong.

I just love how you live in a world where precipitation is not part of climate.
I would ask if I could visit but I hear you have no water so bugger that...
No mods. Bad mods This is not insightful at all.
He is not being nice he is trying to piss his neighbors off.
And even if this was not the case this STILL does not excuse those movies...!
Don't make me rub your nose in it mods...wait...I just did.
I am referring to the use of the word to IN OF ITSELF make an act worse than it is and mentioned the fact that you get more time.
And act cannot be made worse than it is just because some mouth breather somewhere decided it should be dealt with in a different legal system

The fact that it carries a bigger sentence is irrelevant.
You missed my point entirely but then are probably one of those that use the word in this way...

Oh wow.
That explains EVERYTHING.
Not I totally see the sensible practicality of it.
Oh god, I think I just lost my eyebrows in what's left of my hair...

You completely missed the most important and central part about them changing employment law then?
>We have a lot of baby boomers, and they're running the country.
Nope. Not even close.
They are ignorant and not very open to change and thus HELP vote in the people who ARE in charge.
But in charge themselves?
DIGGER, PUUULEASE!?
The same sort of wealthy, typically white haired old white men are in charge of your country just like all the other 1st world western countries.
To pretend that all "Baby Boomers" are somehow in charge is just laughable.
Aside for those directly involved, it is a sad day only for the aussie economy to an order of a rather insignificant magnitude. Otherwise...meh.

I agree. But that does not hold for money.
Gold is useful, as is the copper in pennies.
No one is going to suggest the relationship between their worth and value has anything to do with utility.
