AFAIR, the (original) beetle also missed a gas-meter. Instead it had a backup tank that could be emptied into the main tank by a lever, so you knew when you only had 5 litres (or whatever) left.
This is not picking on Amazon, this is picking on the US patent office for issuing this patent (and a lot of other "stupid" patents). IMO Amazon is just doing that they can to stay in business and limit the flow of patent-lawsuits going against them. Anything else would be downright stupid of them. But something clearly needs to be done; The internet is still a new world with lots to explore, and the only thing to do, as I see it, is to abandon or limit patents in this field until this new world has reached some kind of maturity and we have some fundamental technologies in place. Afterall, where would we be today if someone had a patent named "Combining bricks and mortar to form a house"?

I agree with you in all the distant-future-stuff, but my question was purely tecnical, and not answered, so allow me to clarify:
As I see your posts, you want to do the following:
1)Transform fuel energy to movement energy, using an IC engine.
2)Transform the movement energy to electrical energy, with the help of a generator.
3)Use the electrical energy to get movement energy, with the help of these new engines.
4)Get the car to move , using movement energy.
A normal car works with steps 1 and 4, why would you add two extra conversations into the line?
As I see it, any conversation requires energy (due to electric resistance, mecanical resistance etc).
Can you explain how you can get better fuel effiency by adding the steps 2 and 3?
I think there is something more to the conversion than 1hp=746w or else you would need an awfully large vehicle just to hold the batteries
Yeah, but what is there to it? I sure don't know, but i fail to see how adding 2 extra levels of energy-conversation is in any way good.
Well, my little emergency generator runs 12 hours on about 2 gallons of fuel and produces more than enough power than what these motors would need.

Frankly, i fail to see how gas needs would be reduced by "converting" gas to motion in an IC engine, then converting motion in a generator, and then using the electric power from the generator to make motion again. Why not do it the old-fashioned way and just use an IC engine directly?
