I agree he's kind of an homage to many character's in noir fiction. However my point was that his actions as a vigilante could just as easily put him in the roll of a villian in another crime dram. I think it's also worth pointing out that in The Fall of Max Payne you can acutally see an arc to his character which is unheard of in most action games of the same ilk.
Timesplitters 2 was a great successor to Goldeneye in my opinion. It took similar gameplay and added all whole slew of features to multiplayer that made the game great for having some friends over like the original Goldeneye. The story wasn't very good but I didn't really care because it was a fun FPS that didn't try to take itself too seriously. It drew inspiration from a lot of quake mods for the multiplayer portion like shrinking/growing based on score and assualt/defend maps.
The article makes an interesting point that I'm sure a number of/. users are aware of that bittorrent is not anonymous at all. Many less technically savy users made that mistake when using Napster and Kazaa and got screwed by the RIAA. Now while you're uploading and downloading you have no control over who sees your IP but I'm curious to know if trackers hold on to this information after you disconnect, or if sites like suprnova.org keep track of who downloads what torrent. Does anyone have some insight into this?
a good example of bad guys who really weren't all that bad, save one is almost every character in Knight's of the Old Republic. A game that can be played in under 40 hours by me and takes the time to set up believable villians, most of which have very human sides to them. Another good example IMHO is Max from Max Payne. He could be considered a villian through the eyes of some but his motivations for what he does are so understandable that he's the hero in the games. This is a question of where do you draw the line between good and evil?
even at like $300 it's not as bad as say 9 holes of golden tee 3 times a weekend for a year(as I recall it's like $4 for 9 so that totals like $624). If your habit is worse than that, as I'm almost certain it is, you'll make it worth your while real quick.
I respectfully disagree. A theory is designed to explain and describe what is observed. A theory also predicts things that are not yet observed. A theory can be perfectly valid and yet completely wrong, especially when it comes to physics. If you want to look at validity a little closer, take a look at any critical thinking text book.
Anyone who's read a Brief History of Time would know that any theory that describes something accurately is pretty valid. Whether or not it's elegant is another matter. Most Physicists believe that God created the laws of physics to be elegant and try to iron our the complexities of their theories. If dark matter doesn't exist it pokes a rather large hole in things but going under such an assumption may lead to a more elegant picture of how the universe began, and the nature of matter etc...
Yeah if Battlefield Vietnam is going to see the light of day within the next year they're well into the testing stages of development and there's not a lot for modders to do. Unless they just happened to hire the whole Desert Combat team as testers out of coincidence.
good point, I liked that game a lot, especially the new units that could be introduced and the water units were nicely done but it got to the point where there were to many units for me to remember which was the best for which situation. Maybe I just didn't play it enough.
I was always a big fan of the original Command and Conquer. The units had a nice variety without bogging you down with too many options and the whole concept of RTS was new and exciting to me. I don't think any C&C quite lived up to the original except Red Alert.
I stopped reading the article when he started talking about synapses because my eyes rolled up inside my head. I'm all for technical articles on slashdot but this article made me want to find the author and slap him for over-analyzing something that no one finds particullarly pressing in the first place (see also: art history). This is my rant and I'm sticking to it.
Well I'm certain you give up your basic judicial rights and in place you get the UCMJ, in which I don't believe they have an equivalent to habeus corpus.
I'm personally psyched to hear this because my brother is a Captain in the 1st Stryker brigade, which as the article mentions is in Iraq. I've never been inside a Stryker but it will certainly be interesting to me to see what it's all about in there.
Actually Tourette's Syndrome, doesn't usually manifest itself like everyone thinks it does. I knew a girl in High School whose Tourette's just caused her eye brows to go up when she blinked when she was nervous. So Tourette's can come in very mild forms.
I'd be careful what you say...this may look nifty and like Microsoft is capitulating but perhaps this is one of the rings of power that Gates will give to the kings of men to control them. Because as we know, Linux users above all else, desire power...
For some reason, Zelda just seems like it should be an RPG, even though it doesn't have any RPG elements.
It seems like it would be an RPG because so many people associate the fantasy setting with RPGs. RPGs simply haven't been able to get away from their roots in D&D and Ultima etc.
That really annoys the hell out of me. RPG's are really about character development, puzzle solving and good story telling. In Zelda you see about as much character development as you do in Mario Bros. If you gave Mario a sword and a bow and arrow people would say that he's in an RPG
win2k+3? wow that's much easier that typing win2003...I don't care mod me down, abreviations and acronyms have gotten out of control!

To get my money's worth, a game better be over when I finish it and no later. I'm sick of all those games that are over after I finish them.

It's ok because Newton stole most of his material anyways
