  1. Re:Which version of VB is it? on Making an Argument Against Using Visual-Basic? · · Score: 1

    How does a post like this get modded insightful - it says nothing. vb 6 may or may not have been crap, but in many ways, such as debugging, com integration and forms development, it was *way* ahead of everything else - things like runtime debugging, which was just introudced into the .net 2.0 ide's was standard in vb6. And this made it a very fast language for development compared to c++, especially if you used com extensively.

    Before you say vb6 is crap I suggest you write a com object in c++ and a vb6. Notice anything different?

    Uhm, just leave off the "end if" in the second example since it's not required.

    This is *exactly* the same as { } is not required in c# type syntaxs when you use a single line.

    Your second example would be like writing this in c#
    if (a==b) b=c;
    }

    which would get you a compile error too.

    This is hardly a problem with Vb syntax, all it means is that VB uses a space for a line deliminator while C# uses a ;

    They really are the same language in nearly every way that matters to a developer.

    C# implements some things, such as event raising (off the top of my head), in very different ways to vb.net, making it more of an excercise than just learning a new syntax.

    You're right that if you program in c#/vb.net it is remarkably easy to switch between the two for any competent programmer. But if you're implying that's it's just a case of using a different syntax, you'd be wrong.

    Sure, if the hijackers had been cia agents, but they weren't. But very few ppl would need to know if GWB et al merely planned/encouraged/financed/allowed these actions to take place. And if they did do that spreading rumours that they planned *and* executed the actions helps their cause, because it is obviously ludicrous.

    Clinton landed troops on the beaches of Somalia to distract U.S citizens from his growing sex scandal, maybe GWB learnt something from that.

    Of course MS do marketing... but we're talking about something far more sinister than getting to know your customers. The ability to profile many people in a very generalised fashion is something of enormous importance to Google, since they can sell this information/the results to the highest bidder in the form of targeted advertising. There is no way that you can compare this to to MS "getting to know their customers".
