      I think this is happening already (at least for some of us). While yes, fucking Fred was the highest rated channel (still is maybe, I am not even going to bother checking honestly) there is some good stuff out there. However, I am not optimistic about the quality.

    I was JUST talking about this with differences between Vista/Win7 ... I forget the feature (group policy screen saver,power save or some such). But jeezz, sometimes configurations should be declared good enough and fuck quit mucking with it ... Similar to DVORAK, but that is user adjustable nowadays so doesn't count. I am ALL for user controlled moving shit around. But, then they'll probably move that too **cough** "Folder and search options" **end cough**

    That explains my past dealings with Boeing! I kid, the engineers I worked with are just like any other (average) bunch (honorable); .... really, its the corp mandated paranoia present to many corps. Don't send that developer the manual without 5 gov't signoff; their 3 man organization is after our buisness.

    I read that (and Hitchhikers Guide, and GEB:EGB) as youngster not realizing they were "geek" classics. They were just books my dad had. But, Good Omens does get a lot of mention as they others, but honestly it has had the most impact on me. I shortened it down to the premise: The Third Option. Before knowing there was a name for the problem (false diacotomy), I realized it happened all the time... Good vs Evil (really, My Good vs My Evil). School vs Experience (Both or hybrid or who said I wanted your job). Microsoft vs Linux (Amiga of course!). Owning vs Renting (Parents basement! That one was easy :) )

    I somewhat agree, I feel its like that for many languages except domain specific (e.g. graphics, database) ones for C/C++, but would like to point out two other O'Reilly ones:
    Programming Python (Unfortunately, covers a bit too many unrelated, but advanced topics for me)
    Python Cookbook (Recommend this one, though like it implies, all over the place. You pretty much read it online)

    However, when you get into more specific items like: SWIG/boost wrapping you're left with documentation and google.
