They are under no real obligation to keep it running and EVERYONE is using it as a stable permanent system.
What if we all woke up tomorrow to find out that "when it went live" they decided to clear out all the email addresses and emails. Pure and utter pandemonium would ensue.
I agree. It doesn't matter what they do, the slashdot community will raise kane anyway. They might as well flip them the bird and move forward.
Simply, they have given months and months for admins and whoever to get things straitened out. If they are still screwed up they need to either disable Auto-update, unplug their network cable, or install another OS that will work.
MS isn't forcing it down users throats. Remember, they are the ones that are in control of "Auto"-update. And they've had months to turn it off.
It's amazing people are so pissed about something that's voluntary. Is SP2 going to work perfectly on 100% of the computers? No. But a 95% level of success is good enough considering what it helps do.
The Zombie computers out there need to be taken by force and this is the only way. Resistance is futile!
should you not be searching for non-work related stuff at work. You should actually be working if you're getting paid to do it.:-/....unless you are looking at Slashdot.
The box performes many of the same benefits that the DirecTV box does. - scrollable TV guide - channel filtering - crisper digital streams - more channels - ordering PPV from the remote - etc, etc.
Ok, fine. Let me "rent" an un-DRM'd song (MP3) for $.05/song:) If Netflix let's you "rent" a movie and burn to DVD/VCD for $1, then music downloads for $1 are a rip off.
What we are getting right now is a "lifetime" rental on the songs we choose. Can't sell them, can't do squat with them. Can you imagine in 10 years someone dieing and leaving his iTunes collection in his will? That can't happen today as far as I know.
At this point with the way the music industry (RIAA) has pissed me off I'm just going to keep my current collection and move to other forms of entertainment. If I need to listen to a song, I'll listen to one i already have. I get drunk too often to every really remember all the songs I have anyway.
That would be unbelievably nice to sit back and select a movie to download (for free) and have it arrive to your Tivo in a couple hours.
Instant Messaging would also be nice. Either a GAIM interface, or something else. If they could hook into the AIM network the teenyboppers would single handedly be able to support TIVO.

Though the question was 'how can I make laser tag more realistic'. The answer of paintball is almost a legitamate solution, but doesn't answer the actual question posed
I think what people are trying to say is: Make it more dangerous. Improve the "laser" to the point where it can do damage. Coming back from a game where your opponent looks like he has chicken pox from all the burn marks would make it a little more fun.
In High School we'd get an empty liter bottle of coke poor some toilet bowl cleaner in it (forgot what brand and what active ingredient) and then put a few rolled up alluminum balls in it and put the top back on.
After awhile it'd produce a pretty big bang. That's when we got the idea of trying it again and sticking the bottle in a mailbox. That was flat out spectacular. However, our parents didn't think so.:/
Because if everyone had a 100mbps pipe out of their house then the main networks would be slammed.
For instance at your cable company's hub, let's say they can handle a total of 100,000 mbps to the internet (yes i'm generalizing) and all the customers have 100mbps to them.
They would severely lose the number of customers they could have. As few as 1000 for full speed.
Or they could charge companies a premium rate for 100mbs internet access and the average Joe user a regular fee for 3mbps (which is sufficient). They would be able to increase their customer base immensely while still providing a useful product.
It comes down to a tree analogy. Either a tree trunk can have a few large branches or it can have a whole lot of small branches. It CAN'T can't have a whole lot of large branches or the tree will break.
Well, then i guess you aren't afraid of hell, so in that sense, it's better for YOU. But as for me, I'm afraid of burning for eternity.
Why should I choose to beleive the theory that involves some strange, complex omnipotent being that I dont understand, when I can can choose Darwinism that is simple.
If Christianity were simple, then Heaven would be filled with a bunch of people that took the easy way out. That's not in God's plan. He wants people that sacrifice and can be humbled by his presence, not question it.

It's not like they are scanning the hard drive. They are scanning the ports and seeing if certain applications are using them.

Use Avant Browser. It uses the IE engine so everything is displayed correctly, but it includes 3 functions: popup blocking, flash blocking, and image blocking. I usually leave the popup and flash blocking on at all times. It has 3 buttons for each on the main toolbar to turn them on and off easily.
It also has tabs like Firebird and themeing support. Since it is tightly integrated with whatever version of IE is installed, it uses the same bookmark directory so no need to import and worrying about links staying in sync. I will never go back to regular IE or Firebird after this.

I've been getting emails about email lists being sold with 100's of millions of email addresses. It would seem to me that it would be illegal to sell someone else's information (email address) without their consent. Is this not the case?????
People are smarter about space and and have more knowledge about what to expect than we did 50 years ago.
With movies like LOTR, it's a fantasy, but it's done with a plausible feel. There have been few futuristic movies that are plausible and stretch the mind in the last 10-15 years. The Matrix being one of course.
My problem with most futuristic movies is they go beyond plausible fantasy, and right into rediculous science fiction. Those types cannot capture my attention and put me IN the movie.

Definitely brings new meaning to the phrase "high on crack" or "high as a kite" or "hopped up on crack"
Future headlines:
"Crack will remain to get shuttle as high as a kite."
"Astronauts take crack-laden shuttle to space"

Could we not just create some sling shot that shoots it toward Earth whereupon our own gravitational pull would suck it in??
I'm curious as to how far from the moon you'd have to be, to be pulled back in to Earth. And what type of device we could use to do such a thing.
If we take all the helium off the moon, then what's gonna hold it up there!? gasp! cringe!

I agree. I use XP about 9 hours a day and usually reboot about once every month. Not because I have to, but because i feel like it.
I've had it "reboot"/lockup on me three times in 8 months and that has been when playing a game.
If it's screwing up every single day, then you have a bad install. Plain and simple.
Silicon Valley? As in California? As in the state that has issues controling electricity, fires, and thier spending? That California?
How in the hell do expect California to control light when they can't even cover the basics.
