With all versions of XP you can have as many as you want. Maybe since it was NT4, that was the problem....which was like 7 YEARS AGO! GOOD GOSH.
Obviously there will be a Home, Professional, Corporate, Server, Media editions. Most likely a Student edition and a Kids edition.
If Apache can't get it to work on the OS, then that's Apache's problem. The OS will be able to handle it. It will come down to included feature sets, and abilities to include the computer in a domain and atleast hosting one and all the utilities that come with that.
Obviously they can't just sell the corporate edition for $100. So they have a basic version that would suit 85% of the population for $100 and the professional edition for $150 and corporate edition for $200 or whatever.
It's much the same way that Intel and others would make one processor and sell different speeds of it to meet the wide range of needs and maximize profits.
"anything lower and they would consider it a business expense"
You do realize that 2.4m/day is nearly $1 billion/year. That's a shitload of money.
Microsoft will be speaking to the US government about this. Windows is one of the US's biggesting products we export. My guess is Microsoft will eventually say piss off to Europe. What are they going to do? Invade us? If they pull Windows off the shelves in stores there, there will be a huge outcry about it being removed. The common user needs Windows because there is no substitute for novice users.
Personally, I think they need to ahead and fine Linux 2.4m/day because it's not easy enough to use yet for the common user. If they could get Linux up to par people would chunk Windows. FINE LINUX TOO! Atleast until they make it more user friendly.
I hate Microsoft just as much as the next guy, but come on. The US needs to start fining France I guess now for legalizing file sharing. Let's fine China manufacturers cause they are exporting too many goods.
Let's fine European car manufacturers $5 million/day because their steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.
This isn't a problem with the OS not playing well as much as it is a political response because they don't like losing a ton of money on exports toward a piece of software they don't feel is worth it.
There are about 100 OSs out there. Are they going to fine all of the ones that don't have a "feature" or documentation that they don't like? What's next? Applications? If Windows doesn't let you do something that is important for your group, THEN DON'T USE IT!
I thought they were going to create some sort of digital media stock market where people can look up how much a song is worth and either sell theirs or if they don't have it, buy it from someone else.
Afterall with DRM they should allow transfer of ownership. A DRM'd song should be no different than a CD.
This would be awesome as some songs that have become less popular will come down in price, while others will remain at the full $.99 value.
A pipedream i know.
And by the way, this idea is copywritten, trademarked, and whatever else I want to call it. If you wish to use it/buy it, it'll cost you eleventy billion dollars.
You are clueless if you DON'T think some characterize the South based on the aforementioned TV show and other stupid stereotypes. I have seen it and heard about it for years. My family came to Memphis before I was born. My brothers and sister who were in elementary school were actually surprised that people here had shoes. They had heard from so many friends and neighbors of "what it was like down there" that to them the stereotypes were the truth.
"Hehe. You probably have sex with your sister. haha" "Do you even know what a computer is? Haha" "It must be cheap to go to the dentist and brush that one tooth. haha" "Is your outhouse in the front or backyard. haha"
It gets so old and annoying that it's not even remotely funny. I guess back in the 50's when these jokes first came up they were funny, but by now they are just old and ignorant.
And no i don't think that Lucille Ball or Jackie Gleason represent the North. I was throwing that out there as an example at how most Northerners and Westerners look at the South: through stupid old black and white lenses.
And yes it IS comically funny. I've been laughing at Northerners and Westerners for years about this. That and the fact that sooo many pay out the ass for an enourmous cost of living for no damn reason.
Do you not understand the concept of separation of church and state?
Do you not understand that the founding fathers of our country were Christian and they had Christian beliefs and sayings throughout everything they wrote? Did they want a Christian country? No. But they didn't want Christianity eliminated. Look to the Declaration of Independence and some of the Federalist Papers for examples. God is mentioned. Would you have told the founding fathers that they don't understand?
"Evolution is just a theory" stickers in public highschool science textbooks, constant attempts to mandate the teaching of religion masquerading as science in the form of "intelligent design"
Um, everyone agrees with microevolution. It's macroevolution that causes the disagreement. And it IS just a theory. Where is the proof of macroevolution occurring??? They have searched and searched and nothing has come up except for the famous picture that someone drew of an ape turning into a man. This picture has been shown so many times that people think that we have bones proving this. All we have are bones on either side of it with nothing in the middle. It's a "theory" just as "intellegent design" is. Why is it ok to teach one theory and not the other? If students are going to become intellegent beings, they need to hear both sides of the arguement instead of just being brainwashed into believing one side of it (this goes for people on both side of the arguement).
escalating attacks on Roe vs. Wade, forced "options counseling" and waiting periods for women who want an abortion, the continuing delays in introducing RU-486 and other pills to the US market
Most people that have a problem with it, have a problem with waiting till the BABY is practically breathing before aborting it. If you're going to abort it at all, do it as soon as you find out in the eary early stages. Second of all it's a human being. Granted it's attached to a feeding tube, but nonetheless it has human genes and if normal progression occurrs, it will have a life. I've just never understood how some people can be oppossed to the death penalty of ruthless murderers and rapists but are completely in support of killing unborn innocent children.
And lastly, the arguement about it's a woman's right to abort her child. A husband should have the same right to abort it as well. If they signed papers to be in "a union" then he has a right to abort what is half hers, since she has the right to abort what is half his. And if I punch a mother in the stomach and kill her fetus then i should just be charged with battery, since it's "not human" anyway it can't be a murder, right??
I really wish there were some politicians who would work to remove the tax-exempt status of SB churches and related non-profit organizations that intervene in political campaigns and elections.
That's fine I guess, but any and every organization like the ACLU, Unions, and Black Caucus need to have their tax-exempt status revoked as well. They are also heavily into the political scene. You can't just choose certain politically involved organizations that fit your desires.
It's people like you that let us Southerners know that the rest of the US is about as clueless to the world around them as the steortypes you have of us. From shows like "The Beverly Hillbillies" you think we walk around barefoot with a piece of straw hanging out our mouths. For one, that show is about 60 years old. And two, it was already a huge stereotype of something they knew little about. They pulled a general Southern family that looks like it existed in the last 1800's. Add in the fact that they were morons and you have a funny show.
I would imagine alot has changed in California and New York and other states since 1900 wouldn't you say? Or do you all act like Lucille Ball or Jackie Gleason? It's actually quite funny really. You're stereotype that we're "dumb and behind the times" only shows that YOU'RE the ignorant one that's clueless to modern world around them.
If they can store terabytes upon terabytes of email, I'm sure they keep track of the last several IPs that the user logged in with. The government works especially hard with companies on stuff like this just so they can have access if they need it. They don't like it when it's impossible to find out info on someone.
You'd be suprised at how much is kept on users with the free *anonymous* email accounts.
My guess is that if you sent an email out using Hotmail/Yahoo to several news outlets saying that you were going to kill the president or someone, you would get a knock on the door by the FBI/CIA within a day or two.
Our problem is that companies like Sunbelt do not properly look at
software before they blacklist it..........This shows that either they do not examine programs properly or that they ignore copyright law.
I have several points.
1. If you hadn't BLOCKED them from "inspecting" your software in the first place (per your EULA), then they might have actually "properly looked at your software"!! If you block them then they can't examine it now can they?
2. Since you mention that "anti-spyware companies can't look at your software", then that probably threw up a red flag to them. Where there's smoke, there's fire. And by coming out and flat out saying "anti-spyware companies can't look", you're making them blacklist you by default.
3. If they got a computer that had some files they didn't recognize on it, and looked up their origin via the internet, then they aren't tampering with your software. They may very well not have seen any EULA anyway. All they needed to see was it was a "spying" program and that "anti-spyware companies aren't allowed to examine it". So whenever a computer has those files, mark them as spyware.
To me, you guys set yourself up for this. If someone doesn't want me to look at something they are trying to sell, then I'm going to tell everyone else it's probably bad news.
why shouldn't the government get into the restraining free speech business, like everyone else?
This doesn't have anything to do with free speech. Free speach is about coming up with something on your own and speaking it. Not copying someone elses logo and making money on your website (satirically or not).
I realize they don't want us to copy digital stuff (I disagree with that, but whatever). If it even passes, could companies not just make converters that turn the digital copy protected signal into an analog *free* signal so it's legal to copy on whatever?
I know digital is clearer, but I've lived in an analog world for awhile and recording/viewing analog is not that big of a deal to me.
If this bill makes it illegal to convert a digital copy protected signal into an analog signal so users could record, then i'll be very upset.
Considering a CD has about 10 songs on it and the artist makes about $2/cd.
Would it be cool if i sent to a quarter for downloading that song for $.08??
Maybe you should set up a paypal account on your website or something. If they support sites like www.allofmp3.com, I wouldn't mind giving the artist the same share per song that you normally would get.
In todays day and age, eliminating the middle man is a way of life. In the music industry there are about 300 people between the artist and the consumer. An seemingly, many of them enjoy a nice life out in California with a woman with fake boobs and have a nice car.
Just my opinion.
And by the way, if it's a small time artist I do buy their cd. I usually only download 80s classics and todays "hot" music. My dime that would go to them is meaningless for the multi-millions they already make on it.
Why hasn't Coke, for example, hired some contractors to create these objects for the game (vending machine, cans, trucks, billboards) that people can use.
In my opinion that would be better than the generic cans and machines. It adds that "real life" senerio feeling.
For instance one of the boards now is at a McDonalds restaurant. Everytime I play that board I get the urge to eat a cheeseburger.
This could be done with alot of stuff. Cars by Honda, Computers by Dell, Plasma TVs by Philips, etc, etc.
Now that games are becoming more and more "object" aware, it'd seem like companies would work to get their "objects" in the game to advertise.
I guess maybe the problem is they don't want to condone violence. Oh well, their loss for wanting to be politically correct.
He did referencing the "MythBusters" Episode. They had two trucks, the exact same model going around the track at 45 MPH. The one with the windows down went 30 miles farther at a 15% savings of gas.
Granted that savings could change with increased speed. However, I would imagine MOST people don't average 75MPH in or around the city.
Essentially, use common sense. If you're getting on the interstate, roll your windows up. Otherwise, roll them down.
While I can't imagine wanting to wear Luke's X-Wing flight suit, I think that light saber is pretty sweet. Although I bet it goes for the price of a new car.

If you use the nVidia software (nView i think) it can change your desktop to enable this feature. However, I leave it turned off because it's a waste of processing power.
I would hope this will be a setting that I can turn off.
I don't think i was ever asked to open a port with my torrent client. And i do have XP-SP2. If anything it did the popup window asking me if it was ok to access the internet.
The good think about their firewall is it's very user friendly so you don't have to manually go open ports up.
In a theoretical world, they should. In reality they won't.
Consumers have driven these crap products in just about every market. Few people ever look at the companies and their reputation.
This is what usually happens: Brand A has a quality tv with a bunch of features selling for $500. Brand B has a quality tv with almost no features selling for $250. Brand X has a craptastic tv with a bunch of features selling for $250.
Most people see the Brand X tv and think they're getting a deal. All the features of brand A, for a great price. What they've bought is a sham that is filled with inferior components that will eventually break.
This isn't the companies fault. Consumers are driving this type of market and this is the only way companies are able to compete against one another.
You see Habeem, you really do have a direct line of sight to the Brooklyn Bridge if you fly in from the south durka durka.
Gee, now terrorist don't have to do months of research in the US. Now the can be fully prepared when the get here. Good job Google and Microsoft! You've done Al-Queda well!
No it's not a hog. My guess is you tried version 3 and wound up switching to some other app. Version 3 was a colosal failure. They immediately began work on Version 5 (v2 speed + v3 technology). It is much much better.
It has Internet Radio and Internet TV built in so you don't have to go to shoutcasts website to load a stream in. It's all built in to the app.
I have a 1.7Ghz machine and it's currently streaming a 128kbps stream of shoutcast and my processor goes anywhere from 0-7% usage. of course even with Winamp closed it uses the same. So it's basically negligible.
Personally, if I'm just playing a bunch of music and doing other stuff, I'll use Winamp 2, but if I'm wanting to REALLY use it, i'll use Winamp 5. I don't want a media player that takes up 800*600. I want a media player that sits in the title bar of my screen and is always on top. And that's what Winamp does so well.
By noob I'm talking about the standard AOL type noob. A techie wannabe or someone that doesn't have the time or patience to deal with MythTV.
The customer base is completely different between TIVO and MythTV. I know many many families that have a TIVO, but no one except for extreme geeks have even mentioned MythTV. Most TIVO users are not technical (can't build their own computer). Hell, just go to the community website. Most of them are complete morons when it comes to discussing the architecture/modification of a TIVO.
Tivo is the solution for noobs. The whole reason MythTV is around is because it's a free service. They go through days/weeks of building a box to get a free service.
Tivo noobs open a box and plug it in and are willing to accept a monthly fee. These are usually middle aged middle class people.
MythTV users are mostly made up of 18-25 year olds with little money and alot of time.
The only way I can see this working is if it's about $12-18/year. That's what a 30 page magazine's subscription costs. Why does it have to be 4* more expensive then that???
Money is the only reason why spyware isn't considered a virus.
If i were to make an email with an attachment of some dancing bunny, that happened to install software in the background that tracked what websites you go to, what applications you used, what your ip is, etc, etc, and every once in awhile display a webpage that has a paypal link to give me money to remove this annoyance, I would be deemed a hacker and virus writer and probably go to jail.
However, if i spend the time to make up a marketing company for removing software and do pretty much the same thing, i'd just be norm.

Complete hypocricy if you ask me.
