I think you are thinking too much like an engineer. Remember..evolution is not like SW or HW revs. We don't just disable certain features because they have bad effects. I think it's important to remember that evolution does not always mean something got better. It just changed..that's all. Hell..it could be that some critter needed more energy to make himself a new arm that to just seal it off and keep going. Lucky for us..we don't need to think about that anymore.
I read this thread and it makes me sad. It makes me sad for the future of my country. It makes me wonder, was it worth it to serve my country in the armed forces? I did it because I care, because I love my country and what it is supposed to stand for. More and more it's clear that our leaders just don't care what happens to this once great country. It also seems the people don't care either, otherwise we would have found better leaders. What do you people think will happen when this current generation takes over? This generation of "Global warming is hoax, evolution is a hoax, science is hoax" generation. There is a reason why my company gets most of it's engineers from Germany. Most of the current generation are mine me mine morons who expect to get time outs when things get hard. I literally weep when I think about what has happened to America. It makes me sick that a small minority of people were so easily able to fuck this whole country up. I always hear people say, if you don't like, leave! Well you know what, I am leaving. I am moving to Germany next month to get the fuck away from you wackos. What the fuck does that say, that I need to go to Germany to get away from crazies. Don't get me wrong, I love America, but right now, I hate Americans. I say fuck you, you crazy bible thumping wackos. You can have it. Enjoy your army of McDonald's workers. I'm outta here.
Seriously, everyone acts like, "OMG, China is like sooooo evil man. They spy on us. Bastards!".
Do you really think that China is any worse than say..AT&T or the NSA? What about the CIA? Do you think they are no spying on you? At least China does not hind it behind a veil of "freedom".
....The iPhone itself doesn't really handle the switch from 3G to EDGE very gracefully, so calls that are in-progress tend to fail whenever 3G connections aren't optimal and the phone attempts to step down to EDGE..
Seriously, this makes no sense at all.
Your voice connection is not over IP, thus EDGE has nothing to go with it. InterRat handovers (3G - 2G) are not an easy thing to do. All phones implement this in more or less the same way. That way would be what the core spec says!
From what I have seen, and I have lived in several states, the less educated and clever folks are, the more kids they tend to produce. Conversely, the majority of my well educated and intelligent friends tend to have 1 child at most.
It would seem that a less advanced race of morons (i.e. Humans) could very quickly run these Uber-smarties to extinction just by our numbers alone.
I am sure they do have either a green-card or a work visa. My point is that they are NOT Americans. Americans want too much money. Even in my company of less then 30. Most are German and some form of Asian, with me being one of 3 Americans in the WHOLE company.
With our profit margins, we literally cannot afford to hire American fresh out of school engineer. I can hire a German with actual problem solving skills for 30% less money and I don't need to worry about them leaving with 1 week notice sine they are on an E-2 visa;)
GUARD #1: Halt! Who goes there?
ARTHUR: It is I, Christian Day, Scientist, from theKarlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. King of the physicist, defeator of the Saxons, sovereign
of all Germany!
GUARD #1: Pull the other one!
ARTHUR: I am. And this my trusty servant Lovelock.
We have ridden the length and breadth of the land in search of knights
who will join me in my court of Camelot. I must speak with your lord
and master.
GUARD #1: What, ridden on a horse?
ARTHUR: Yes!
GUARD #1: You're using coconuts!
ARTHUR: What?
GUARD #1: You've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin'
'em together.
ARTHUR: So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this
land, through the kingdom of Mercea, through--
GUARD #1: Where'd you get the coconut?
ARTHUR: We found them.
GUARD #1: Found them? In Mercea? The coconut's tropical!
ARTHUR: What do you mean?
GUARD #1: Well, this is a temperate zone.
ARTHUR: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin
or the plumber may seek warmer climes in winter yet these are not
strangers to our land.
GUARD #1: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
ARTHUR: Not at all, they could be carried.
GUARD #1: What -- a swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR: It could grip it by the husk!
GUARD #1: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple
question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a 1 pound
coconut.
ARTHUR: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master
that Christian Day of Germany is here!
GUARD #1: Listen, in order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow
needs to beat its wings 43 times every second, right?
ARTHUR: Please!
GUARD #1: Am I right?
ARTHUR: I'm not interested!
GUARD #2: It could be carried by an African swallow!
GUARD #1: Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European
swallow, that's my point.
GUARD #2: Oh, yeah, I agree with that...
ARTHUR: Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court
at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany?!
GUARD #1: But then of course African swallows are not migratory.
GUARD #2: Oh, yeah...
GUARD #1: So they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway...
[clop clop]
GUARD #2: Wait a minute -- supposing two swallows carried it together?
GUARD #1: No, they'd have to have it on a line.
GUARD #2: Well, simple! They'd just use a standard creeper!
GUARD #1: What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
GUARD #2: Well, why not?
I would be happy to have someone patent this pile of crap idea!! If other people would be forced to pay them money for adding annoying crap to my OS..then perhaps they are less likely to do it.
I would venture to say that any decision to delay the release of code has very little to do with HTC trying to stonewall. Contrary to what people think, you are not allowed to do what ever you want to a phone. Naturally, Andriod has access to the phones protocol and RF layers. Giving the user access to these layers is a VERY, VERY bad idea. To sell a mobile phone in North America, a manufacture must obtain PTCRB certification. This is a very stringent set of tests which look at all layers and all the hardware, including the antenna performance. We are talking more than 6000 tests and more than $800K!! Once they pass..this SVN (Software version number) is locked in. ANY changes in code or hardware and the manufacture must make an ECO with PTCRB and make some additional checks. The main reasons for this is network health and link budgets. The carrier must be able to count on your phone acting in a predetermined way in order to keep the network on the air. Believe it or not, one single phone could bring down an entire tower! I can promise you that the carriers will NEVER allow a situation where YOU can alter those layers and kill the network. I am sure HTC need a fair amount of time to figure out how to lock it down and still let you mess with the OS.
Looking over these posts..it's amazing that how little people understand of the technology they use. Nokia's patents pertaining to GSM technology and UMTS have absolutely nothing to do with a phones OS but rather the 7 layers under it.
Nokia has spent many millions over the years on GSM and UMTS. They are major contributors to the 3GPP standards body and have help in a measurable way to shape the technology. How can people call Nolia a patent troll because some company comes in years after Nokia did all the work and steals the tech?? Are you kidding me?
I know it's Apple and the normal rules of the world should not apply, but for F's sake people. This is the reason we have patents! It's not some nonsense software patent.
Seriously, I travel a fair amount for work and I have seen literally 1 person using a kindle. I dont know..maybe people only use that at home, but to me it seems this is a device type with astonishingly little market penetration relative to actual books or ipod/iphone what have you. That being the case, the only thing to take away from the kindle is media hype. IMO at least.
Indeed.. I played with the N900 at the CTIA show in San Diego. This is the phone that will replace my iPhone. It's a great bit of kit and the software is fantastic.
NO...
The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy and nothing more.
You are aware that the constitution has more than the preamble right?

Do you really want the government telling you what you cannot eat?
Stay out of my bedroom, welcome to my kitchen?
But you said stay out of my bedroom....oh, not that kind of eat.
We do the same thing at work with Interns and flashlights.
I am moving to Germany next month! seriously.
The sheep here just dont care what the government takes from them so long as it's "for the children".
******VIOLATION*******
PLEASE HAND IN YOUR GEEK CARD! You should have known that "RADIO SHACK" is now called only "THE SHACK"!!
Seriously, everyone acts like, "OMG, China is like sooooo evil man. They spy on us. Bastards!".
Do you really think that China is any worse than say..AT&T or the NSA? What about the CIA? Do you think they are no spying on you?

Does anyone remember way back when anti-competitive behavior was illegal? I guess it just depends on which company does it.

EDGE is only for data. Just like GPRS.

whoa whoa whoa...
I am Irish Catholic and I think the man is an ass. Not all religious folks are bigoted morons who use fear for control.

"....with predominantly American employees and stockholders.."
Seriously, I would say that 70-80% of the employees I have seen at various tech companies...at least on the west coast are foreign nationals.
For those of you who dont want to read the article..this is what I got out of it....

Actually..that's not quite true. You can share the same channel, you need only a different UL/DL slot configuration.
I would venture to say that any decision to delay the release of code has very little to do with HTC trying to stonewall.

I mean...they could be going by these:

Which, to be honest..would not be too impressive to stick 1TB on a fingernail like that.
