It was my way of pointing out the fallacy in the parent post.
My conclusion is that you judge too quickly. Relax! life is too short to insult strangers.
I apologize for the double post, the line breaks were omitted because it interpreted my post as HTML. I should have previewed it

Getting 2.6 to work with Gentoo is pretty easy. Just read the ewarn when you emerge it (it's got a few notes about what to make sure you enable in your kernel). The ebuild will autograb the new init-mod-utils also.
Go to your local drug store and pick up some ear plugs. They're cheap, effective, and will take care of noise from neighbors too. Also look into wearing a sleep mask. They look stupid, but the monitor glow won't bother you any more.
You can either follow the advice of the post above me, or just use genkernel (emerge genkernel) to make a generic kernel that'll work on just about any system (but will take a long time to compile and will have tons of useless modules).
And I doubt anyone will look through someone else's kernel and tell them how to reconfigure it because if something isn't selected, how is someone supposed to know if the person actually did something unusual for a good reason?
What I usually do, is just go with the current settings and just change the drivers, and for the most part, leave everything else alone unless there's an important reason why I should change something.
try out Multi-aterm, the site is down right now, but until it's back up you can check out the google cache
Multi-aterm has transparency, and tabs, and is pretty fast.
Don't worry, 'tis understandable. Hopefully we can all learn from this. Maybe one day, we'll even laugh about this whole mixup!

Have you checked out the Wikipedia? When I'm looking for something serious and educational, I look there first.
