    there's a 3 minute or so short animation on adult swim called captain linger, there's a few of them. i was never able to record them when they played, and no one on any of the p2p networks seems to have a copy.

    does anyone have or know where i can get a copy? i'd be happy to trade for my complete collection of sealab 2021, aqua teen hunger force, brak show, harvey birdman, or futurama.

    I'm not saying I'm siding with the spammer, his actions were illegal as far as I'm concerned. Spammers should be separated into component atoms and scattered about the galaxy. But it was still commerce, or at least an attempt to make it take place. (i.e. get people to buy his shit)

    you'd have to look more closely at the wording of the law, but it looks like, no, it is not commerce. there was no exchange, and the people who are suing the spammer, obviously, are not interested in any such transaction taking place.

    the state court couldn't regulate transactions of any people who did do business with the spammer, but those that sue him in court and don't want to buy anything from him can't be regarded as having engaged in commerce.

    i did not say a police job is more fulfilling.

    i realize that the military sometimes does things that are beneficial, such as civil engineering and food relief. but the point is, killing is part of a military job. for most of the people i know, and geeks in particular, this fact alone makes it not a possible consideration for work. it's possible that sometimes the killing is justifiable, such as a nation defending its own borders. but often it's not, and that alone makes being a part of such an organization unacceptable.

    our reality is what we create it to be. as a species we need to grow up, stop being selfish and greedy, and stop using violence as a means of trying to resolve problems.

    In the last decade, the US military has handed out a thousand times more food parcels and given out a thousand times more medicine and treatment than they've killed people.

    i think i understand now. for every 1000 parcels of food and medicine someone gives out, they get a credit that gives them the right to kill someone.

    And the people they have killed, in most cases, had it coming.

    it's good to know that there are persons of integrity in the armed forces such as yourself who are capable of making that judgement, as to who deserves to be killed and who doesn't.

    he did not get a fair trial. and while i don't agree with blowing up buildings with people in them, i DO agree with what he was protesting: the murder of many men, women, and children at waco, tx by the federal government and the general usurpation of power by the federal government.

    if you really care to know more about mcveigh, oklahoma, civil rights, and the federal government, i highly recommend reading gore vidal's 'perpetual war for perpetual peace'.

    it's true that later simpsons are not as good, but i mostly attribute that to the fact that it's hard to keep a show fresh and with new ideas after THIRTEEN(!) seasons.

    i expect great things of the simpsons movies.

    oh and another thing. i predict matt groening to be the next target of geek betrayal and disgust. we've all known and loved him for the simpsons, but when the movies come out, they are gonna suck, and no one will remember him fondly anymore, and they will invent their own simpsons mythos that makes more sense.

    i disagree. i've been a groening fan since before the simpsons. his 'life in hell' comic strip totally rocked, and if you read it i think you'll get a feel for him and his world-view, and get an idea as to why he won't be a sell-out. matt groening has too much integrity to turn the simpsons into some cash-making scheme that's not true to the original feel of the simpsons.

    yes, i agree, and that's why i try to share and copy as much music as possible, that's the most direct way to crush the riaa - attack their revenue stream.

    i agree with you 100%, and i've never before heard anyone else echo my thoughts so precisely, so i'll just say: "ditto".

    as far as why we should play by the rules, i think the standard argument is that, if we're playing by the rules, they would have no excuse for fucking with p2p, nor to push their drm bullshit.

    there store is not being looted. as far as i'm concerned, when i buy a cd, it's no longer the riaa's, and they no longer have a say as to what i do with it.

    that's your opinion. mine is that people who think that fileswappers should be arrested should THEMSELVES be arrested.

    i have no problem causeing the riaa financial harm. i would really, really like to see them go out of business. they are parasites, they are like the mafia of the music world. they produce nothing, it's the artists who do that. all they do is run their racket, harass people with their lawyers, and bribe congresspersons into passing laws favoring them. i hope to see the riaa stomped into the ground in the near future, along with all those who support them.

    1) a policeman can record and sometimes does.
    2) your ad hominems are ok but mine aren't?
    3) good luck telling the government you don't like how your tax dollars are being spent...they'll likely laugh at you or more likely ignore you. and actually, that's an argument for cameras, they're more efficient and spend less of your tax $.
    4) in my second example i specifically said a detective. there's no reason he can't merely observe as well if he's hired to do that.

    For one thing, installing a camera to watch me implies that I need to be watched -- i.e., that I'm untrustworthy. This is entirely different from the casual observer whose view just happen to pass over me as I perambulate down the boulevard.

    and how about a policeman who is standing and scrutinizing passers-by, trying to determine if they're up to something illegal? hence your argument is refuted.

    Second, he's also right that the camera isn't simply watching, it's recording, in a way qualitatively different from the human brain casually recording and then discarding information, your sophistry notwithstanding.

    your thick-headedness nonwithstanding, a camera is only a labor-saving device, an extension of human beings. there could easily be a detective at the same place with a notepad and pencil recording details and/or making sketches. this would be recording, as well. the only real difference is that the camera is vastly more efficient.
