I'm talking more about the jobs of people that create the software, the uniforms, the munitions, the vehicles, the support infrastructure...those that make the actual weapons systems, those are all civilian companies and workers for about 99% of the work.
That is the work I'm talking about which stays at home and most often is done by US citizens, and jobs that do stay at home.
And it isn't "make work". There are always bad people in the world that we need to shoot at. The need for blowing away bad guys, unfortunately, isn't going to go away any time soon.
Then do what the government typically does: give money to the states for infrastructure projects.
I'm with ya on that one.
Let's cut out most all of the unconstitutional entitlements the Fed do now, let the states keep their money and power (as was the original plan for the US) and get things back in order. The federal govt shouldn't be "giving" money to the states...it is the states' money to begin with, and should stay in the states for them to help govern and cater to what their citizens want first and foremost.
Remember, you are a citizen of your state first and a THEN a citizen of the United States.
We could form companies that employed people to literally rob you in the street and some politicians would argue that they need a tax break "FER DA JERBS!"
But that wouldn't be legal.
On the other hand, one of the few enumerated responsibilities of the US Federal Govt is for defense.
And, as I've mentioned before, due to security requirements, these jobs often are reserved ONLY for US citizens, one of the last remaining sectors of employment that cannot be outsourced.
Many and much of the work for the DoD is mandated to be from US companies and often on many projects ONLY US citizens can work on things due to security reasons and requirements.
It's one of the last few industries that you can count on for US employment, and not being outsourced.
But damn, if we're going to have government make-work programs, have them do something constructive. Fix our roads and bridges. Build schools and hospitals. Make things that improve infrastructure, which improves our ability to trade. But you build a tank, and it just...sits there.
Well, actually, with the Federal govt, national defense is one of the few responsibilities enumerated to it by the US Constitution. Not much in there for infrastructure, most of that should likely be by the states.
What? Bombs and guns and tanks don't contribute anything to society. They're necessary, yes, but they don't create wealth, they consume it
I beg to differ.
A LOT of people work for companies and contractors for the DoD needs, many if not, most of them are good paying jobs, and working for the DoD...is one of the few remaining things that often is mandated to take place by US companies with US workers, for security requirements. Many of them require you to be a US citizen, which is a good thing.
I have to wear specs to read anything on my smartphone these days.
Same here. I've derided the thought of a "phablet" like some friends have, I wonder how they hell they put those comfortably in their front pockets and still sit without crushing them.
But, more and more, I find I have to carry 'readers' around with me to do much on the phone other than talk on it.
I don't use my phone for much more than text or voice, but with the new iPhone 6, I'm gonna give a look at screen size increase and see what fits my lifestyle (and wardrobe with regard to pockets). Maybe I'd use it for more than just a phone if I could more easily read the damned thing.
I will say, my OLD iPhone 3gs is a bit long in the tooth and bogs down and gets kinda slow running the few apps I fire up on it from time to time.
Lots of good paying jobs in the US based on DoD. There's always gonna be bad guys, and running through inventory keeps people employed with good paying jobs restocking the shelves so to speak.
Here is an interesting page showing how to use DslrDashboard (open source) with TP-Link Battery Powered Wireless router along with LR Timelapse to have a really powerful way to control your camera. Except for the LR Timelapse portion, the DSLR dashboard is open source and you're using Open WRT. The hardware on the battery router is pretty much identical to a commercial offering (whose name escapes me right now) that is charging $$$$$$ for this type of set up.
I've got the components, and hope to find a weekend free soon to hook it to my Canon 5D3 for some time-lapse and other controlled shooting. I figured it nothing else, this would breathe a bit more useful life back into my old Motorola Xoom tablet.
Yep, that's precisely what I was thinking...the iPad with the general public, has become a generic word for 'tablet'.
Kinda like Kleenex is pretty much any facial tissue you blow your nose on, Xerox is any copy machine, and in the south, Coke pretty much means any type of carbonated beverage (as in "hey, you want a coke or something?" "Yes", "Ok, what flavor?")
Coke-or-something being one word when asked...
But yes, I've heard before people asking, "what kind of iPad do you have there?"
Hmm...as a citizen, I wonder if I wear a number of HIGH powered IR LED's on my hat/person, if that would blind out these officer cameras?
I've been dying to find out if surrounding my license plate on my car, would fsck up the video from the speeding/stoplight cameras too....easily viewable to naked human eye, but blind out the cameras.
am talking in this case about the sliced meat you eat on bread. In the local shop, only the super-expensive, high-garlic "Italian" meat is sugar-free. The rest contains both sugar AND at least one kind of syrup. The ingredient list is on the back side, so if you see, for example, roasted chicken meat, you would not think that it would contain anything else than roasted chicken. But if you turn over the package, you see what junk is used to produce it. Hey, but it is organic junk!
Well, that's what you get eating processedfoods, like deli meat.
If you roast your own chicken or cook your own roast beef from scratch, you know exactly what you're getting in it...hence, you quit (or at least greatly reduce) your intake of processed food.
Quite often you see chicken going on sale here for $0.89/lb, regular price is only up to about $1.19/lb. You can get a chicken even at regular price for less than $5.
But it is cheap, whole foods you prepare and cook from scratch ARE cheaper and healthier, just takes a bit of time and effort.
We used to do meals as a family...even as a kid when I got home from school first, both parents working, Mom had notes for me to start things, sometimes as simple as throw veggies in a crock pot or something, more as I got older and advanced.
Everyone has 24 hours in a day...it is up to you as to what to do with them and where to prioritize.
There's a difference between denying the diet of our evolutionary ancestors, and having a problem with the way animals are treated in modern farms. I'm surprised by how often I have to point this out.
It is pretty easy these days, to buy meat from local farms which treat the animals in more humane ways, yet still many of the vegan types say that isn't sufficient that NO animals should be sacrificed, even humanely, for human consumption.
Don't you have private prosecutions in the US? Sure, they cost money, but in cases like this there are usually plenty of interested parties willing to chip in.
No...never heard of such a thing??
Charges here are brought by the government against criminals.
In civil suits, it is private I guess, people suing each other, but not in criminal matters.
If all that is true...they certainly have NOT been getting that message out nationally.
The national picture of Detroit and surrounding area..is pretty much one big, decaying heroin/crack den with abandoned and dilapidated properties...with tumbleweeds aplenty in the streets.
Hell, the episode of Drugs, Inc on the Nat. Geo channel alone painted a pretty bleak picture of Detroit spreading heroin around to not only itself, but the surviving suburbs that are still around the area.
Nope. California's budget is very solidly in black, average salary is way higher than in Texas and industry is _growing_. It turns out, that being a nice place to live attracts business.
Got any links to stats that back that up?
Certainly not what I'm hearing on the national news stations....MSNBC, CNN, FOX..etc.

People got along just fine before them....
I wanna live forever...somehow....
It would be great, if it just didn't fscking have Windows on it.

Arrrgh.....

Hmm...sound like a fun weekend project.
So far, the kid seems to possibly not be quite as innocent as originally depicted by the news and Al Sharpton types....
So, at this point, best to wait and see what the evidence and witnesses show as what happened that day.

Wow..where do you live where chicken is so $$$$?
Quite often you see chicken going on sale here for $0.89/lb, regular price is only up to about $1.19/lb. You can get a chicken even at regular price for less than $5.

The Energy Dept, should be only working on current and NEW forms of energy.
Of course funding should be cut for things that should not be part of their mandate.
This makes about as much sense as instructing NASA to make more efforts to placate muslims er oh wait.
If they can't play by the big boy rules then they don't belong in a big boy game.
