Third time in this thread I've had to post this link [cdc.gov]:)
Aside from freakish occurance...or if the giver and receiver both have open sores.....I have a hard time believing there are documented cases of a healthy guy getting HIV from an infected chick giving him head....where no torn skin, etc is involved.
Hard to believe...I mean, after staring at the same old pussy year after year...I'd think they'd jump at the chance to at least look at some 'strange'.
Perhaps they were all newlyweds or close to it there?
Teachers have a powerful union that won't allow the state to remove their license for unprofessional conduct without proceedings that could take years during which the school district has to pay the teacher to not work. This is the more cost effective way to handle the issue for the school districts. It is unfortunate that that people's rights have to be encroached on, but I can understand the reason for such a law.
Why not just ban teacher unions in the state? It sounds like that might solve most of the problems we're having.
For that matter..why are ANY public jobs able to unionize? I mean...they're fighting against the tax payer...not evil corporate barons. They should be answerable to the tax payer, not the other way around.
I think one of the biggest issues is the gap in price between good products and low end stuff. I want my music to sound good and I'm willing to buy something that is 3x the cost of the everyday / low end equipment. But instead I'm given the choice between low end equipment or pro-awesome-blow-your-mind stuff that is 10 times more expensive, with nothing in between. I would love the more expensive stuff, but I just can't afford a 10,000 worth of stereo gear.
Well, here's the thing. You DON"T have to buy all the components at once.
As I've mentioned in other posts here..I've been building my stereo since I was about 12yrs old...every few years...replace a piece with a new one...upgrade over time.
Doing that..I have a great system I love....but heck, I couldn't possibly afford what I have now all at once...
Pick something or wait for a deal..save up...invest in some quality speakers...I like things from the Klipsch heritage series. The little hereseys are good to start with...I have the K-Horns. But invest in something with real quality..speakers are a natural place to start as IMHO, they are pretty much the weakest link.
In a few years...research and get a quality amp...etc.
If you don't actually sit and listen to a good system
I agree...sadly, a LOT of people today don't know what good home sound reproduction CAN sound like.
I constantly have people come over and when they hear my sound system...their jaws drop...and they often will just stop talking and sit and listen...going "wow...what is that??"
Seriously, I've had it happen before.
I like portable music players and stereo in my car too...but I know that isn't the best listening environment....good for the gym or travelling, but for home listening or watching a good movie, well...while no one has to buy $2020/ft cables...in some sense with audio, you DO get what you pay for....quality speakers and amps/pre-amps do cost money.
Myself and my friends I grew up with...most of us back then loved good sound systems. I've been building mine since I was about 12yrs old...starting with money mowing lawns, babysitting..etc...buying and replacing a piece at a time over the years.
About all I need now..is to finally plunk down some serious cash...and get a couple of good old McIntosh tube amps....I've got the K-Horns...so, just a matter of finding a decent deal on a 60's amp or two....
That's my preference..but there are other choices out there...but I think that it isn't just the bad economy now...but that a generation of kids has grown up NEVER hearing what good stereos can sound like....
As I posted to that other guy...I just got mine yesterday...and with the gift cards and BB rewards zone credits..I got my new nook and 4GB card for $147 tax included.
I'm likely going to hold off rooting mine...so I can enjoy the free 14days of B&N magazines and newspapers...but I might try to make a boot SD card just to play with android a bit during this period.
Just curious, what was the battery life on the standard out of the box nook? What times do you get now with normal use? Did you use cyanogen mod7?
Do you have a link to the root mod that you followed?
I bought a nook and put cyanogen mod on it. It has really performed well below my expectations.
Did you play with the governor settings, or try to boost the clock up a bit? Running it more near the 900ghz setting should help the performance...I've seen these nooks sped up a little...and things ran smooth as silk on them.
YOu might give it a try.
I just bought a brand new one yesterday....I had an ATT $50 gift card...and $85 worth of rewards at Best Buy...so, went in and got a brand new nook plus a 4GB micro sd for $147 tax included.
I figured the price was right on that.
Since I get 14 days free magazines and newspapers from B&N on the new nook...likely I won't root it till that is over...but after that...time to play.
Give the clocking a look at yours and see if that improves things.
No, you apparently have no need for the government to know what arms you own, but the State of California feels otherwise. I guess that means you wouldn't want to live here, but bear in mind, more people live in California than in any other state in the union.
Nope...while I like to visit CA...I do NOT want to live there. They have WAY too stringent laws on what you can and cannot do to your car as far as mods go...apparently too strict gun laws, and not to mention the state is going broke.
But that's the great thing about being a citizen of your state first and a citizen of the US second...keeps the states independent, and you have the ability to choose which state has laws more in tune with your beliefs and lifestyle.
CA is a beautiful place...and great people out there, but the laws, taxation and such don't entice me to want to live there nor try to set up a business there.
You say this as if it is difficult to do, or illegal...at least in the US?
It is simple, just buy a gun from cash from a private individual, no record of the transaction at all.
I've bought most of my pistols in this manner...from friends, relatives or strangers at gun shows. No state has had a record of the transaction, no waiting times...no registration.
This may vary from state to state, but is perfectly legal in the states I've lived in.
Now..if you file off the serial numbers and get caught, I think you're in trouble in most all states, but just to buy anonymously, is not illegal in many states, and nothing suspicious about it.
Because a tablet would be so much less capable than a car window. This is possibly the stupidest "and the technology could be used for..." article I've ever seen.
Geez...what's with parents having to have 12 different forms of medial to keep kids busy on a trip?
I used to have a few books, lay down across the back seat...and read most of the whole way....or with a few toys and imagination, I'd entertain myself for hours.
I can see an occasional DVD or game, now that they're available...but geez...it sounds like what I hear from every parent, they live in FEAR that their kids will run out of media to keep them occupied...shit, let them read or do whatever to keep themselves occupied. We had to do it growing up, make them do it now.
I can understand getting the latest one of your old one breaks and there's not much price difference. What we're talking about here is mass buying, sight unseen and throwing the old one (still perfectly good) in the trash.
Depends on your definition of "still perfectly good" is.
I mean, sure, my iPhone 3GS still makes calls, take picture, etc. It goes what it originally did perfectly, in fact...just before my warranty went out, the volume knob on the side fell off...and Apple replace the whole thing with a BRAND new iPhone 3gs.
However, the newer phones have functionality I wish...front facing camera for video chatting. It also has a better processor...etc. I think the new phones will have the capability to run on either of the types of US phone networks. So, stuff like that make me want to upgrade.
Also, my cell phone is my ONLY phone...I have no landline...if it hadn't gotten completely replace, I'd be worrying a bit that my current iPhone was starting show signs of battery wear...so, upgrading phones for that was a reason too.
All that being said..since this is basically a NEW iPhone 3gs that I'm ditching..I might see if my Mom or Dad would be interested in it...
+1 came out before Google+. It was a way to basically "like" a search result. It also had a social component, so you could see the likes of your other friends when performing a search.
Ok...after reading further down...and saw that this is something apparently added to regular google searches I looked for it on a search..and can now see the very faint +1 link near links returned by a search. Strange, I had never noticed that being there at all before just now.
I'm not familiar with this concept of "liking" something...I take it this is something done on those social network sites like FB and twitter?
What's a griefer?
Aside from freakish occurance...or if the giver and receiver both have open sores.....I have a hard time believing there are documented cases of a healthy guy getting HIV from an infected chick giving him head....where no torn skin, etc is involved.
Not something I'd be terribly concerned about....
Then there will be NO more protests.....citizen.
Hard to believe...I mean, after staring at the same old pussy year after year...I'd think they'd jump at the chance to at least look at some 'strange'.
Perhaps they were all newlyweds or close to it there?
Hmm..not really a problem/concern if you're on the receiving end of said blow job.
Ok...you had me up until this statement...
You can't possibly be a guy and be saying this with a straight face......
Why not just ban teacher unions in the state? It sounds like that might solve most of the problems we're having.

*sigh*
I"ve seen my Khorsn run from a jam box in the old days...about 109db sensitivity...
Thank you very much for the reply and info!!
I dunno...most of my friends I grew up with were into great audio equipment...and still are.
Well...you aren't gonna 'hear' much at $1200...that's about what a decent integrated amp/receiver will start to cost you.
I'd save and first start laying out cash for GOOD speakers..that will run you about $1200-$2000/pair.
Well, here's the thing. You DON"T have to buy all the components at once.

Trouble is...MOST people just settle for the crappy earphones that come with most portable music players.....
There ARE differences in earphones...my high end Shures make even mp3's sound really great....in the gym things sound pretty good even....
But not me...I like my speakers BIG and my amp to be small and glowing (actually mine is an older model and was only $400 back in the day).
Large efficient horn speakers, and SET tube amps..to me...sound like magic.
I do need to buy a 2nd amp to have one for each channel, just to get a little more volume..but not by much.
I have other speakers and run through a processor for movies...but for just stereo...a source and what I have above is just magic.
I'm likely going to hold off rooting mine...so I can enjoy the free 14days of B&N magazines and newspapers...but I might try to make a boot SD card just to play with android a bit during this period.

The govt. has no need to know what arms I own.
I'm about to play with Android myself soon..been reading up on 'hacking' a nook into a more fully functional tablet...for cheap.
I saw a friends nook running cyanogen mod7, and all the stuff he'd downloaded for it, looked pretty sweet.
Geez...what's with parents having to have 12 different forms of medial to keep kids busy on a trip?
