"In fact, the real problem with using insects for protein will be milking the jumpy little buggers. I mean, even if you can get 'em to squat over the bucket, ordinary fingers will just be way too big for those tiny nipples."
Not only that aspect, but I was thinking...I generally prefer my medium rare ribeye steak to NOT be crunchy...
"Though this does raise the question of why Blockbuster, cable companies, ISPs et al still ask for it with impunity. Obviously many high-up judges and politicians have mobile phones, Internet connections etc., so why haven't any of them kicked up a stink about this and stopped a supposedly illegal practice?"
Just because they ask for it..doesn't mean you have to GIVE it to them!!!
I flatly refuse. Usually, they just go ahead and sign me up, or on occasion, I have to give a deposit...but I don't give out my SSN, not for utilties, or private companies, or insurance...nothing not directly related to SS taxation.
"Yeah, the whole movement towards 300HP V6s showing up in everything, and 0-60 in 7 seconds being considered "slow", really sucks for the performance enthusiast out there."
0-60 mph IS SLOW....no reason in the world a 300 HP engine should have the slow of a takeoff speed.
Damn...between this, and all the fscking "green" concern out there...going to get harder and hard for those of us who like to drive cars that are fun to drive to find such cars.
Oh well, at least there is still an active after market out there for suspension, exhaust, turbos/superchargers. But hell, it is better IMHO, to be able to BUY much of that already configured from factory, and then tweak it. Especially if you're like me, and enjoy driving and using them, but really don't know much about turning a wrench on a car.
"And you expect anyone trying to take out a predator drone with a home made rocket is going to obey those "laws", while planning to destroy "public property"? What fantasy world do you live in."
Think someone could use a high powered (green?) laser..and just burn out the cameras on the drones??
I think there were some discussed on/. last year...lasers that are powerful enough to be dangerous, yet are readily ordered via the internet.
"You're on a public street. You have no expectation of privacy in that area, so I see no reason to oppose it. You shouldn't be doing things where you might be seen by a cop's eyes (either directly or via electronic feed). - And remember: We the people now have the ability to turn it around, and videocam anything the cops are doing, and upload those vids to youtube to embarrass those cops who act like gestapo."
I dunno. I believe in the no expectation of privacy when on a public space to the extent of it being available only to human eyes. It is a different thing, however, to have that extrapolated to being stored on tape or whatever media, computer enhanced, computer analyzed...and kept for long periods of time to be viewed by any number of people (some in power) over any length of time. Information used this way to find patterns in your life apart from this one area (tracking your movements actions, etc).
I don't mind if John Q Public or Jane P. Officer seems me walking down the street, and remembers it as long as they please. But I don't want them following me around with a camera, recording my movements, etc. Don't put me under observations UNTIL I am under suspicion for criminal activity.
That's the way it is supposed to work, not just using tech to set out a huge drag net to try to catch a criminal and scooping up info on innocent people in the process.
What if there is a murder somewhere? If you're filmed or somehow tracked to be in the area at that time, guess what? You're automatically a suspect. No problem with that since your innocent? I guess that's ok...since no one has ever been wrongly accused, convicted and incarcerated/executed before.
Frankly, I don't want my name on list of potentials which will happen with expanded observation and tracking.
And as for turning the camera on those in power? Have you seen the recent posts on/. about this? I think it is in Penn. where people trying to film/record the cops in action have actually been convicted of illegal wiretapping and have felony charges (maybe even convictions).
I think that those in govt and law enforcement SHOULD be the ones under constant surveillance...since they have so much power over the general public. The general public, however, should have the right to as much privacy as possible, and be left alone as much as possible.
That last part, I would think...is something our founding fathers would support and likely assumed would be the way we lived on after they passed.
I guess the next 'logical' step for the drones that bothers me is....arming them.
I've yet to see a govt. or law enforcement entity not try to extend on any powers given to them yet. They now use RICO to go after non-organized crimes. Remember when they needed warrants for most any cause? That's rapidly disappearing.
I see a very short leap in logic to, "if we had the eye in the sky armed, we could disable criminals as they moved about..".
Also how about the next step..."well, if the public doesn't mind be watched by a few drones, we could also see things better and cover wider area, if we just set up cameras everywhere in the city, much like England does".
Any tool they have, can and often will be abused. Tasers? Seemed like a good idea, to have a non-lethal force weapon...not as much gun play. However, look at the overuse of tasers these days on people and situations that just do not call for that level of force.
I'm for heavily questioning any new *tool* given to the police...they really need to justify it in a huge way because of the potential for it to be abused by them on less than criminal public activities.
This thing sound something like an unmanned Blue Thunder.
"seeing the cut out where they masked the tie fighter flying around isn't cool and I remember that from some early versions of the film as sold to the public.
So I can see where he is coming from, if you start with the originals you will need to do all the work all over again to achieve the clarity that is needed to put it out on Blu-Ray. Some movies just don't cut it. Hi Def reveals lots of flaws and it makes some distracting."
If I recall, those artifacts were only on the home editions put out...something I read about mismastering the actual films when they were getting them ready for VHS release, etc. There was some mix up and they did something to the contrast/gamma something/color or something, and when it got out into public, the masking you speak of was apparent. The original films, did not show this, only the home releases if I recall correctly.
So, a remastering, correctly...from the originals should be possible without those artifacts you speak of.
"Well, I won't be replacing my eight year old TV until it croaks, but I do plan on buying a Blu-Ray. Why? My DVD player is on its last legs; it's been incapable of playing a rented movie for a while now, and has even started stuttering on my own discs, so it's time to replace it."
This Xmas, I gave myself a gift....a bluray player, but in the form of a Sony Playstation.
I looked at prices, and a standalone, wireless, 3D bluray player that can stream netflix..was in the $200 or so range. (roughly, name branded).
I looked at the Sony PS3, and saw the same functionality plus...it played games on the side, came bundled with a Bluray dvd (karate kid or something) and a couple of games (Uncharted 2 and some other downloadable one) for only $299....online with no tax and free shipping.
So far, it is a great player and I like streaming my netflix stuff.
I've actually tried playing some games, and as I mentioned on other thread the other day...WOW, these things sure have come a long way since PONG.
:)
I used to be good at video games as a kid, but I'm having a hell of a time memorizing what all all these buttons and joysticks do, but will learn it. I just keep getting killed a lot.
Anyway, you might consider looking into this. I feel I got a pretty good deal.
"People get their winnings denied for counting cards. I don't really understand how that's allowed - not only is it impossible to prove, it also seems like it means that the rules prohibit playing to the best of your ability."
Actually, that is not true. If you are NOT using any mechanical or eletronic aids in counting cards, and are doing 100% mentally, then it is perfectly legal. In Vegas, they can for any reason refuse to let you play any further, but your money is YOUR money till they ask you to leave. If I recall, in Atlantic City, you can't be asked to leave if counting cards, but they will begin to start to shuffle between each hand which takes away the possible advantage the counter might have.
But there is nothing illegal about counting cards as long as it is only human effort. It is not illegal in any state in the US that allows gambling legally.
Which of the unicomp model M ones do you have...they have several that say theyhave the clicky keys...but very little detail on which are the exact reproductions...? Exactly which model do you have"?
"Either unicomp is fine, the only difference is no windows keys on the 101 model."
Cool...actually in another thread on here...I actually until then, had NEVER hit the windows key and didn't know what it did.
I guess I don't need one.
:)
I learned to touch type back in the day of IBM Selectric typewriter...and no windows key there, and guess I'd just never hit it.
Anyway, looking more into the unicomp keyboards (thinking I'm going to order one today)...the Spacesaver is basically the same thing, just smaller keyboard frame?
They sure don't give many details on their website.
"Same here, you don't have to be legally 'married' with the bit of paper, you just have to be together (as in living together) long enough and she has a claim."
In the US, depends on your state for the most part.
I try not to keep the same one for THAT long...I don't often live with them, or at least...for the most part, I keep them having a place of their own so they CAN leave at times.
Great to have a woman around, good for companionship, sex, some light cleaning, etc. But it is even better if they and and do go HOME for awhile.
"How nice that you don't take offense to words you use to describe others. Too bad you don't understand why these words are offensive or even try to elevate yourself beyond what you were taught."
I don't take offense to words used to describe me either. Say the word cracker, honkey, idiot...neanderthal around me or to me.
Doesn't get a rise out of me. I tend to thing everyone is getting WAY too PC, and wears their feelings on their sleeves. Geez, get over it, when did life become about preserving someone else's self esteem? Toughen up a little. People that call you things, aren't your friends. I don't have time for people like that. I've too busy trying to make lots of money, party with friends and get laid.
I don't have time to bother with what other people think or say if they are not my friends.
""They" may be well educated and wealthy, but "they" are also bigots. If it's not offensive, why only "when not in a the presence of black people"? What are you all afraid of?"
Please, re-read what I wrote in its entirety (typos and all).
I said I understood the word nigger was offensive to many black people (strangely enough only if used by a white person in their presence, but perfectly ok for blacks to call other blacks to their face, but I digress).
I generally try not to use a word that I know will offend someone. I say fuck around many people, but not around people I know don't like the word. I did learn a few years back, that people with kids (usually the mothers) tended to give me some funny looks when I'd had a few and let loose with language. So, I do try to watch it...I don't go out of my way to offend people. I do feel people are too easily offended and "PC" these days, but that's how many people are becoming.
My point was...I don't see, in plain, every day, regular life...with non-black people that I deal with an interract with hardly anyone that finds the word nigger as highly offensive. I find quite the opposite, you'll hear it quite often in public conversations...when there are no black people around.
One thing that made me think it was regional...was a trip I had to visit some friends up north. They knew how everyone talked around them while down here, and I was surprised to hear from one girl, to not even say nigger in a bar around white people. I was kinda shocked that they would take such a large offense, even if they weren't black. Guessing it was a regional thing.
But no, reread my OP...I didn't say it wasn't offensive to many black people, just that I'd not seen many non-blacks that found the word to be that offensive.
"Linux users yesterday: "My distro has a package manager that tracks everything I install and provides updates."
Linux users today: "Haha, stupid Apple consumers, just another way for you to pay money!"
But, my package manager (portage) is local to my box, not being monitored by some other company out there knowing and tracking what I do or do not have on my box.
Also, never had to pay for software to download and install on my linux box before...
"Yes, provided they also decide they will never again apply a patch to their install of 10.6, for whatever stupid reason. This isn't a "Leopard" to "Snow Leopard" upgrade. It's a routine patch, just like previous ones with security fixes, bug fixes, etc. Skipping it would basically mean you're not going to ever patch your system again."
Well, it is an issue if you have older hardware. My old iBook can't run any higher than Panther...and I can no longer find that one to purchase, so, I'm stuck with tiger.
If you have non-intel cpus....you're kinda fscked with this if this becomes the only way to buy.
"When a child picks up the text of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and reads the word "nigger" I want them to take offense."
Ok, I have to ask...do that many people out there find the word nigger to be so horribly offensive?
I mean, I know a great number of black people find the word offensive (although strangely enough usually only if a non-black person uses it, they often call themselves niggers in everyday conversation), but do people of other colors find the term to be THAT offensive?
Granted, I'm a bit older, and the word was not as bad a four letter words to use. Sure, you didn't shout the word nigger when in company of black people, but in every day conversation, the word was used as a general term for black people...not as a term for putting them down, but that was just the word you used. Growing up, I pretty much thought it was just the usual regional difference in terminology. You hear negro up north, and nigger or nigra as my grandmother used to say it in the south.
I live in the south, and in general, when not in a the presence of black people, the term is still used freely as a synonym for a black person. And no...this is not a bunch of mouth breathing, uneducated rednecks. On the contrary, they are from all walks of life, and most that I am speaking off first knowledge of, are wealthy, well educated and often in places of power (yes, even governmental).
Maybe I'm answering my own question...maybe the degree of "offense" is regional too.
For the record...I'm just not offended by much of ANY language. It is, after all, just a bunch of words.
I don't feel any more offense from words like: idiot, cunt, skin flute, fuckwad, wankel rotary engine, trapazoid, mongolian cluster fuck any more than I do the word nigger.
Are there any good ssh programs for free for the iPhone?
I tried to use the terminal that comes with cidia for a jailbroken 3GS...but it won't work. You fire it up and the app immediately crashes. I've not found much of anything yet that works on the jailbroken iPhone.
I'd like to be able to ssh into my boxes...but not finding anything free or open source that will work with it.
"yes, because then you can use the extra gold on inflatables and prostitutes when the wife withholds."
Well, if she won't put out...then she can get out, witholding of affection I think it is called?
Personally, I'll not get married, whenever I want to 'upgrade' to a newer model, well, I don't risk losing half my shit that way. And there are PLENTY of them out there.
But while I understand that there is compromise in a relationship...the man should be the one in charge with final say so on many things..at least things he cares about.
Too many guys out there need to 'grow a pair'. Women lose respect for you if you roll over and do everything they want you to do...etc.
I don't understand seeing many friends..thankfully not all of them....that seem to have had their spines removed upon approaching the alter.
Not only that aspect, but I was thinking...I generally prefer my medium rare ribeye steak to NOT be crunchy...
I'm trying to figure out what exactly he stole...stealing kit does not make sense to me.

I just pressed it...honestly, for the first time. It brings up that start menu. Seriously...people use that?
I have GOT to get one of these.
I saw that Unicomp seems to be the place to get them now.
Which is the best one to get...?
Customizer 101, or the Customizer 104/105? Those look to be the most normal keyboard layouts?
