"Eh, what?? A $11k fine for breaking a secret law? How are you supposed to stay clear of it if you can't read the list of things you can't do?"
We have that here already in the US. That case about the guy who wanted TSA to tell him what law stated he had to show ID prior to boarding an airplane, and they said they couldn't show it to him, it was a secret (national security I think).
"The cop then told me that it was illegal to mount lasers like that to a car. It's covered under the radar jammer laws in which a cop uses laser radar. He also mentioned that it blinded his cameras in the cruiser which is what attracted him to me. He was cool with it but warned me that I could be in some trouble. I mention this because if you do attempt to do it, keep in mind that it might already be illegal in your area and if everyone else is without it, it isn't going to be hard for a cop around you to figure out you have something like that. Especially at night when you can't see them coming."
Granted, it has been a little while since I looked into it, but, just a short time back, it was perfectly legal to 'jam' laser radar. Unlike an active radar jammer....the laser jammer is not (or was not) illegal. I'll look into it, but, as far as I know...no special laser jammer laws have been put into effect. Radar jammers, the active ones that do work, have been outlawed by special laws for a long time...this was more for safety concerns than for blocking the cops.
"Anyone who actually lives there, or anywhere in the Bay Area, calls it the City. Calling it "Frisco" or "San Fran" is the quickest way to identify yourself as a tourist."
I get the same feeling here when I hear people pronounce it "New Orleeeens"....
Not only that..they are running around wearing beads, and it isn't even Mardi Gras or St. Patrick's day....
I've always like those sets of joke of "You know you're from New Orleans if...":
"You know your from New Orleans IF, as you are cussing out the tourists and the buses, you are the 3rd person to run the red light."
Hey...since we don't have that much of a malaria problem in the US, I can thing of one REALLY good alternate use for this system...targeting all the CCTV cameras around town. Especiallly the stupid redlight and speed cameras.
Do that many people actually STAY with the included cheap-o earphones? The sound on them isn't really all that good. I got a pair of the Shure SE530's....man, now THOSE are good sounding earphones. Even the model or two down from there are great....
Oh..and I think it is from the website I liked...but, when you order, call them and ask for the 'code' to get the discount. Usually it is just the model of the earphones, in this example se530 did it. I got them for about $200+ off the MSRP.
Any new rumors about WHEN the new hardware is coming out? I'd heard the new iPhone 'should' be released in the June '09 timeframe....
Any other word confirming this? I'm holding off to buy an iPhone till the new one comes out, hopefully with many features listed in TFA...also, hearing they might have a multi-core processor in the phone? 32GB? Better camera?
"Now you're suggesting yanking those rights away from 95% of people to make it more fair?!? As they say, "Good luck with that!" Wouldn't it be much more politically expedient to just grant those rights to the other 5% of the people?"
Sure...why should 2 or more people have special rights just because they live together?
Most all of this could be taken care of by contractual law between the parties....no need for special 'rights'...other than individual rights.
"And working with finite resources like coal is a dead end. You will end up with the dirty parts regardless."
Well, it isn't like these resources are going to 'go away' in any of our lifetimes....so, at this point in time, for reasonably short term (20+) years success and profit, it IS a good business move to work with these.
The smart things to do for a company would be to maximize their profits on finite resources we still have plenty of today....and spend some of that profit on the next generation energy sources, so they can be ready to profit when a switchover is mandated by loss of said finite resources.
"Any couple that wants all of the legal benefits currently afforded "married" couples should be able to petition the government for a change in status and automatically get those benefits"
Let's make it fair for everyone....NO special status for anyone just because they want to change their status from single. Why should people get special consideration just because they want to make a union with each other?
"Dude Obama is from Illinois, the politicians from there attracts corruption like a magnet; at least Biden isn't from Louisiana!"
Hey, from what I've been seeing and reading, IL politics make LA's look VERY clean and innocent!!
:)
And say what you will about Jindal's TV thing the other night, but so far, he has done a great job down here...a lot of corruption has been ferreted out down here, many people on state and local levels going to jail. It doesn't feel quite like the 'banana republic' it used to be Pre-K.
"Maybe banning IE8 until it is more thoroughly tested. This is typical for any product on a government or corporate network. Until you test for security, usability, and compatibility, you won't let the product on the network and you'll communicate with the users that they aren't to install it (even though most shouldn't have admin rights anyway)."
Strangely enough..no problems using Firefox (any version)
"you can occasionally make money with "credit card arbitrage" by taking advantage of 0% APR balance transfer options. "
Interesting...I'd always kinda thought someone could do that with those cards, but, never heard of it having a proper name, nor that many people doing it.
I started looking about at it..interesting.
I'm guessing in the current economic mkt, it is quite a bit harder to do this, with less 0% no interest cards out there, and interest rates down.
Have you done it much? What kind of success? Still doing it?
The life I lived growing up, was hardly rural. I've always lived in cities. All in the south of the US. Here, we have good sized cities, but, hardly the urban things they have like in NYC. No, we were not stacked on each other, we have neighborhoods with houses with lawns, neighborhood pools.
I'd dare say there are many more of those in the US, than the big urban settings like NYC or Chicago.
"Will that 14-15" laptop give you six or seven hours of battery life? What's that you say? Only four at the best, and it takes several times as long to sleep/unsleep as a netbook running a stripped OS? Say it ain't so!"
Actually...yes. Well, close to it. My old 14" iBook easily gives me near 5.5 - 6 hours time. I've watched 2 full dvds and more on airflights with it before before the battery started to die.
I dunno about other laptops, but, the macs seem to have incredible long battery times.
I'm not familiar with the metric dimensions....how many rooms do you get generally?
Most places I've been renting past few years in New Orleans...are 'half a double' which is common down here. One house is split into 2 sections. They were actually built like that.
Most places I've had were generally 3 bedroom, 1 or 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room (possibly a dining room too), and patio outside. Usually about 1400+ sq ft. total.
Current place is about the same but strangely has 3 full bathrooms....and since Katrina, is much more $$ per month, but, I'm hoping to buy this place in the near future, and let the rent from the other side pretty much cover my house note.
Good Suggestions all...but yes, for now I'm renting....I'm in half a double (lots of those in NOLA)...house is near 100 yrs old, but, was redone before I got into it....not much a way to insulate walls, but, it appears they did insulate in the attic when they put in the central heat and air.
I'm actually hoping to buy the place...and will look into what else can be done, but, with these old places, your options are usually limited.

And right there, that comment fully sums up the stereotype the rest of the world sees about US gun laws/ideals."
What's your point?

I know that headphones are better...but, not really that good for the gym where you move about, etc. The earbuds stick and stay in your ear better.
Also, I prefer the earbud for air travel...they're better at blocking ALL sound really than sound cancelling headphones.
I have some nice grado cans for listening at home, or maybe at work....but, earbuds do have their place in some environments.
Oh..and I think it is from the website I liked...but, when you order, call them and ask for the 'code' to get the discount. Usually it is just the model of the earphones, in this example se530 did it. I got them for about $200+ off the MSRP.

My dream job is powerball winner. One BIG jackpot....and goodbye to work forever!!!
Yet another good reason not to be on facebook or any other 'social site'....at least not with real, personal, identifying information.
Sure...why should 2 or more people have special rights just because they live together?

Except in the US, that is not what we are. We are a constitutional republic.
Big difference.

I know the first two:
The check is in your mouth...
and
I won't cum in your mailbox...
--With apologies to Charlton Heston R.I.P.
Just saw one from the VA this week, stating it cannot be used on their networks.
I'd dare say there are many more of those in the US, than the big urban settings like NYC or Chicago.

Serious question, can your run Linux on the things?
