  1. Oh man, don't get me started on the Amazon Prime Video app. I use a Roku, and the app for Amazon Prime Video is one of the worst interfaces I have ever seen for any application on any platform. It doesn't respond to most keypresses, the pause and fast forward are broken, it crashes the Roku at least once a week and you have to set subtitles separately for each episode of a show you watch. Further, if you press the key to select subtitles, or rewind, it takes the app about 10-15 seconds (I'm not kidding) to respond. The Netflix app, and the other video apps I have tried, do not have this problem.

You might need to buy a newer Roku....I saw those type problems you described back on an older Roku 3 model..but the newer ones seem to run Amazon prime and Playstation VUE speedily enough....

Although I have to sat, the FireTV boxes (not sticks) really seem to out perform the Rokus overall from my experience.

  2. Hmm..so, it is like a FireTV stick, but you use your phone as a remote with the chromecast thing...?

I ended up getting the FireTV boxes....the sticks just weren't powerful enough.

I mostly get my "cable channels" thought Playstation VUE, and on older Roku, or firesticks, they just couldn't seem to handle the guide that PS VUE has for scanning channel guide and seeing what all is one for hours, etc.

I couldn't imagine that the chrome stick would be a powerful enough processor....

But yeah, I can't see why Amazon wouldn't sell the chrome stick too....

I also like the Fire TV unit because it can handle 4K and HDR tv too....those little sticks don't seem to have enough horsepower in them yet.

  3. Ouch..yeah, this will hurt.

I use Amazon FireTV's as my streaming since I cut the cable cord. And I find that I often do watch a good bit of YouTube on there.....

Isn't Chrome just a free browser? Why would Google want Amazon to "sell" that? Not sure what a chrome cast is....

It seems to be a requirement in order to run a department for Trump. The head of the EPA didn't think it should exist because it hurt business too much. The head of the housing department came out with a bunch of statements against social housing. So not trusting your department would make you qualified to run it.

There are a LOT of federal agencies and red tape I'd like to see be done away with, those are two of them.

The best way to destroy them, is to put someone in there and have them begin dismantling them from the inside.

  5. I'm surprised they didn't just de-monetize them, like they did with all the gun channels.

As a market, America is dying. Too much wealth at the top and too many people spiralling down into poverty. How many cell phones can you sell to the 1%?

    Really? Seriously??

Do you really see it as THAT bad in the US?

I mean, where do you live man?

Nowhere that I go or live, do I see things as dire as you seem to pronounce them to be.

I see plenty of thriving middle class neighborhood, lots of folks out shopping, buying cell phones and products, I see people having kids (and seemingly able to afford them)....the private schools certainly haven't dried up and blown away....

And NONE of these people are in the 1% class.

I just don't see where you see all this poverty that is overtaking America.

Agan..where do you live that you see it that bad?

  7. Part of the problem is the "worshipping of rockstars" culture. The flashy, self-promoting 25 year olds who crank out code 100+ hours a week because they have no other obligations are what gets the press. What gets the press gets the attention of the MBAs writing the checks. Standing out in an environment like that working normal hours and producing steady good-quality results is hard.

Well, you do the standing out and resume experience gathering while you are young and can do it.....with the eye on the future!!!

You need to NOT plan on being a code monkey your entire career, it doesn't work that way.

You set yourself up with experience AND contacts, so that you can, if going the W2 route, work your way into management, or if you like to stay more tech, go into the 1099 contracting circuit. If you are US citizen, try doing federal contracting.

But you just can't plan to stay and do the same job your entire life, even if you do switch companies.

. It was Katina that turned me onto txt...and of course with smart phones and real keyboards, it got easier and now..it is really my preferred mode of communication on a cell phone.

I prefer to txt 99% of the time and just use voice at last minute to confirm things, etc...

  9. Oh well...Hey, the internet was fun while it lasted, eh?

Glad I got on about '92-'93 while it was still a bit of the old "wild west" and anything went.

I guess you couldn't expect it to last forever...it caught the govt types off guard and it took a long time for them to catch up to it.

I guess they'll be happy letting the corporate world do what they really never seemed to be able to do and kill it for the masses.

  10. Sounds like you might be "on the spectrum" and haven't a clue how to behave in a professional environment.

Sounds like you've never worked with very many women or know how catty and overly sensitive they may be if they don't get special treatment that a woman "deserves".

And God help you if you are in a civil service job and said female is minority with any kind of attitude whatsoever.

  11. As a white man, given the choice to work with either another white guy or with a cute asian woman who's single, I'd pick the asian woman. Not because I'm a man, but because I'm a man AND a lonely nerd.

Well, you'd pretty much better never TALK, email, IM or otherwise communicate with her.

Otherwise you'll likely see yourself losing your job due to "sexual" harassment. And even if you keep to yourself, if she doesn't like you, even the hint you were ever inappropriate to any woman since you were just DNA is enough to get you tossed out on your keister, so....be careful for what you wish for.

    Cats?

Not so much..they're aloof and don't care much if you are around or not....so, a digital cat gives you about the same as a real cat does, which is not much aside from being there.
