Why didn't he just RUN when he was caught.

It's not like he had any deniability at all....

Obviously he had no problems getting in, likely he could have run out as that it didn't sound like the guy who caught him had a gun or anything.

If this guy had been any good, he'd have been able to hit a dead mans type switch on the hardware he had with him (if he couldn't grab it), and just run the fuck out of the building.

I hate what he did, but geez....I really hate him worse for being stupid.

Once you get used to it, you can fly through edits....but it is different than the old track based Premier style approach.

  7. You know...while I do not consider myself an Apple Fanboy....I have enjoyed many of their products over the past years.

But man...after Steve passed away, it does seem to be going downhill there. The UI is just not as intuitive anymore. Gaffs of things not working, like the watch LTE problems on release, and stuff like this.

I had hoped the folks he'd had following him had had some of the intuition he'd displayed on how things should be (some losers, but mostly good IMHO) and work that make products easy and fun to use for he user, and have them be intuitive.....but alas, that does not seem to be the case and we see blunder after blunder and design and UI flaw after flaw.

  8. Yes it is. It is about one state bidding against another to win a business that operates across the entire U.S.. That's very clearly commerce.

No, actual interstate commerce is the SALE of goods across state lines.

No goods are being traded or having the sale impinged upon in this case.

  9. How is this legal? Shouldn't WTO or trade agreements make this kind of government subsidy impossible these days?

WTF should the WTO or external to the US body have anything to say about what business happens within a country's borders? They have nothing to stay about what happens within a US state and a private entity.

This is the best solution. The incentives are a prisoner's dilemma. Each jurisdiction feels compelled to offer them because others offer them, but they would all be better off if no one offered them. Preventing this sort of self-destructive competition between the states is exactly why the commerce clause [wikipedia.org] exists.

Except this is NOT interstate commerce....that concept has been bastardized badly over the years, allowing federal overreach....but this is a bit of a stretch to say this is.

This is purely between a state and a private business. This is not dealing with sale of goods between states which is interstate commerce.

What's next'? States (and even cities) can't compete for the Olympics? They can't compete to have the Super Bowl?

This is NOT the purview of the Federal Govt. And should not be.

  11. there should be federal law banning the practice outright.

But..that is NOT something the federal government is empowered by the constitution to do.

The Feds have no say in how a state bargains with a company wanting to set up shop.

That is PURELY on a state level. And it should be.

I do similar to what you do....different browsers for different OSes...

I primarily use Safari on OS X and IOS.

I pretty much use Firefox on Linux and Windows...except some work applications that seem to only want to work with IE. so I use that only for a select few things.

I've tried Chrome a couple of times and just never really cared for it...I think it was almost too minimalist and I could get it set up they way I like things.

I actually don't know many people that use Chrome, but then again, maybe it's a younger crowd primarily for chrome?

When you get a bank account, you will get a debit card.

Nope..don't want one of those, if someone gets your debit card, that cash is GONE and it often takes a lot to get it back.

I don't often carry checks anymore, so that's not usually a risk.

But I specifically told them I wanted an ATM only card, not debit.

For plastic transactions I prefer a regular CC, as that you don't lose money from your banking account if it is compromised.

So, I use CC when no extra charges come to me, check/cash whenever I can duck CC processing charges.

I find this often happens with purchases on gunbroker.com , or at a gun show where you get better prices for cash.

There is no reason to be writing paper checks in the US either.

To pay one's taxes is a good reason to have a checkbook.

I've tried to pay state and federal, and if you use a credit card, well, they've farmed that out to a contractor that charges a pretty hefty FEE to do that transaction.

So, I still send paper checks annually at least to pay my taxes.

I also like to throw them checks at Costco...they just run it through their printer that types out all the info and all I have to do is sign it....easy as cash.

I like to pay most of my bills online, but even some of them aren't electronically associated with my bank, so, my bank actually cuts and mails them a physical check.

Also, many places will give you the cash rate with a check, rather than the 3% uncharge for credit cards

In general, cash and check transactions do not incur extra processing fees, and hence are still valuable to me.

Apple is the go to brand for people wanting a status statement instead of just a computer or a phone

I dunno about that....phones (even smart phones) these days are pretty much a commodity possession, they really aren't a fashion or status symbol or statement. Nobody really notices what phone or computer someone is using....unless they are wanting to steal it.

Also, if anyone have been paying attention, people with no clue about computers tend to prefer Apple products.
