I really mean it, jPlayer supports HTML5 and fallsback gracefully to Flash if HTML5 support does not work. And it is very coder friendly, you can create your own seekable player on top of it using the jPlayer calls very easily.

  2. Low-battery iKey signal on Apple's "iKey" Wants To Unlock All Doors · · Score: 1

What about this, you have low-power stage where only RFID signaling works.

Even if your flashy iPhone UI does not work, you could still send iKey signal to open doors etc... Only problem I can see with this is the input, if user is requested to type PIN it won't work cause that probably takes significant amount of battery anyway. I bet the remainders what was left when UI died would satisfy for several years as RFID signal transmitter, then again I'm just guessing here.

You do realize that in order to accomplish this they now have to detect the fertility of flying mosquito, to prevent it from re-shooting the mosquitoes already made infertile. That does sound a bit tougher task than eliminating them all together.

  5. License of the videos? Is free really free... on Bill Gates Puts Classic Feynman Lectures Online · · Score: 2, Insightful

Reading about the interview of Bill Gates, made me wonder, does he truly truly want the videos to be free and available to everybody?

What are the licenses of the videos?

I suspect I couldn't copy them elsewhere, for free. According to article, "Gates said that he hoped his action would serve as a model for taking great educational content and making it broadly available for free." [emphasis mine] yes, broadly available, but locked to single distributor. This does limit the free a lot! I wonder was this the intention of then relatively naive 30-year-old Bill Gates too, I suspect not. Article gave me impression that Gates truly (once) wanted them to be free.

I'm having hard time with Tuva myself, mainly because I cannot watch them by streaming without interruptions. And I couldn't pick them with me and show them to someone not connected to Tuva.

If the purpose of this stunt is to share the knowledge, then please, make them available as download also.

PS. I've got nothing against blogs as a primary news source.

Can you add some kind of mark like class="topic-science" (in to the link around them) To be able to skin them by CSS file. (At the moment it is possible only with CSS selector [] using Alt. This way you can also leave the old images intact and some css files uses their own, to match the style. And i belive there are nerds that most certainly what to recreate all of them :) I consider the icons as layout so therefore there should be some kind of unique way to detect them. Hopefully I didn't duplicate this idea (i'm sure someone has brought this up but couldn't find it). Thanks.

The user has selected the font most comfortable for them. Other than for headings and special effects, why not leave it the heck alone? (Especially font size. "Designers" who want to shrink body text from the size I've chosen need to be horsewhipped.)

In most cases the Designers are the ones that does not know about the web media and cannot understand the idea of scaling layouts. What I've seen they come from the printed media environment. Thats why I don't understand your statement. It's web developers deal to explain that to their designers. At my experience it's not much of a help since almost all other pages uses pt or px as size rather than logical em or precent.

Switching to percent or em font size can be rather hard for designers. Since all the blocks on the webpage should be scalable. Example the columns that contains text should be set with width em.

But if you refering by "Designers" to script kiddies who does not have any kind of background with designing itself, well... you should not refer to designers then.

That there are posts from people that actually could achive financial profit from the Slashdot effect? Cause if that's the deal then I might consider some other place to fetch my news.

Anyways that page even looks like a one shitty catalog with too much information on it. I prefer more pictures on catalogs than text that covers half of it.

Too bad that there is nothing to do for this. Even though this post would disappear they already got lots of viewers to their pages. It's always the money that makes you shake a leg.

Escpecially strap of wire and the remote controller alike another side. I can't imagine what the hell did they thought when they started to design that.

Think about playing something for hours where only other side of the controller is in use. It looks like that the next Nintendo console will be as "arcade" as previous.

But who actually cares. I haven't seen nobody playing with Nintendo related stuff for years (except 8bit). It's obivious that it is aimed to Asia in first place, where people buy them because the label says Nintendo.
