I have an ASUS VivoBook S15 S510UN hooked up to a 50" TCL 4k TV. It works fine. I get work down on it just fine on. I can also play Starcraft II in 4k on it as well with the dedicated GFX card. It does not run at 60hz but I don't care. It was pretty cheap and the form factor of a Macbook air without the sticker shock. I don't need a desktop. My work also supplies a 15" dell latitude for work. It has enough power for coding and debugging.NET services. The point is that laptops can both do real work and game enough for the average person.
People are building their own desktop computers by purchasing the components they want to use. Demand is massive.
Yeah, no. The average joe/jane is not "assembling" their own PCs. Time is money for most people. Only enthusiasts are "building" PCs for themselves or their friends. Demand is not really that massive. Supply for a lot of components is constrained at times because of supply chain issues.
a resurgence in PC gaming has helped mask that a bit, fueled mostly by the insane popularity of Fortnight and PUBG, but folks are buying less and PCs. They'll buy one or two for Junior to do the homework on but they don't usually upgrade them much.
A 600 eur iPad Pro from last year, at the things it can do, basically runs circles around most 1000 eur PCs of today.
I doubt it. My dev environment alone eats up around 16GB, that's even assuming that gcc can run on iOS, and cross-compile for my target, or that eclipse/VS/qtcreator will run on iOS, or that various creation tools (gimp, etc) will run on iOS.
Tablets are not toys because of the hardware, they are toys because they are content-consumption only devices. Those of us who produce more content than we consume won't use tablets to do the production.
Cool story bro but they are not talking about developers or other niche users. They are talking about average users who might need Office and a few other applications and do a lot of the home finance online with their browser.
Hell, a crap cobbled-together desktop PC is still far superior to either Android or iOS for getting real work done.
Even as is, there is no real technical reason that Android or iOS has to suck for serious work, it's just that the mobile platforms are generally aimed at the lowest common denominator, and the user base tends to be mostly airheaded Generation Z types who feel the need to ruin every self portrait with lame vaguely anime-style superimposed cat ears, and drive each other to violence through nasty Facebook postings.
What sort of "real work" does an average person need to do at home? Today, many workplaces even offer virtual desktop environments for their users so you can simply remote into work on your iPad or Android tablet and check work stuff without a "real" computer. You run MS Office and a bunch of other applications on tablets these days and a lot of activity is performed on the web these days from filing taxes to budgeting software.
Except it only runs a toy operating system (not even real MacOS) and lacks a filesystem. So the things it can do don't really include real work.
But if you qualify with 'the things it can do' you might be able to make a case.
You can run MS Office, run a version of illustrator as well as photoshop. What sort of "real work" that an average person needs at home are you talking about. Remember, I said "average" person not some techie nerd who wants to run LINUX.
What Germany could not accomplish through warfare, they accomplished through diplomacy and trade. The EU is the real Reich. It needs to be dismantled before it is too late.
The administration could temporarily unlist twitter.com from DNS entries in the US and most other countries in the name of "national security". Making threats to block a head of state is not cool. Would any of you have been ok with Obama being taken off twitter?
Better question: Why so much grief, hatred, and outrage over a relative non-issue?
Yeah, the MSM says that so it must be true. Then why are human trafficking arrests at an all time high? Do you support human trafficking and child prostitution? Do you realize that gangs use unrelated adults to pose as parents to smuggle children across the border for the sex trade or slave labour? They are called coyotes.
Because its the usual alt right whatabouttery bullshit.
That is not a valid answer. We cannot have double standards. The alt-left are violent and attempt to shutdown the free speech of others. Reagan was right. Fascism arrived in America through liberalism.
It is available for the APP to use for certain notification glyphs indicating state, identifying the current document in focus and possibly the name of the Application (depending on OS implementation). However, does not belong to the Application. It is on loan from the OS GUI services.
Stop messing with things for the sake of change. Provide a defendable set of use cases showing how it benefits usability to the end user. They are your customer whether they pay you money or not. Even if it is Open source software, users are your customers and without them, your software has no point to exist.
Itâ(TM)s time we fire up the first Soylent Green factory.
Those angry men are more likely to put you in the meat grinder than the opposite. Progress with no benefit to society as a whole is pointless. Science and technology is supposed to service us, not the other way around.
That reminds me of what a Canadian in Vancouver once told me: Many English Canadians are annoyed at the dual-language French on their cereal boxes and believe it goes back to the 1970s language laws in Quebec, but it actually goes back to the 1920s when Quaker Oats started putting French on its cereal boxes to improve its sales among French-speaking consumers.
Almost nobody in Vancouver speaks french other than federal government employees and yet we not only have a taxpayer funded french CBC radio station but also a local French CBC television station. English CBC already has really low ratings outside of Hockey Night in Canada but I would assume that the french versions are even lower.
Vancouverites put up with the french version of the safety instructions on flights leaving YVR but it seems a bit ridiculous to have the french version on a flight to the US because if you are travelling from Vancouver to the US, chances are, you are fluent in English. If Quebec can have language laws for signs, why can't english Canada just do away with all of this french stuff and save money?
You're already in control of who sees photos you're tagged in. You can chose to review them before release, as well. The photo will still be on Facebook, but your friends/girlfriend/whoever won't see that you're tagged in it, and unless they're friends with the poster, they won't see it at all.
My point is that if someone posts your photo without your permission, it won't be seen at all by anyone, not just the poster's friends.
If you do not know the person and you photo bombed their photo with their friends, that is your problem not theirs. I doubt you will be able to block the photo from being posted if you just happen to be in a photo with other people.
Because they effing deserved it. They were deplorables the same kinds that voted for Roy Moore couple of days back. A cancer to this nation!
Right as opposed to Al Franken, Anthony Weiner, the Kennedy Clan, Bill Clinton and all the rest of the democrats currently embroiled in scandals. Roy Moore has not admitted guilt. I thought we were supposed to assume innocent until proven guilty or an admission of guilt?
Notice that MS came up with ports for iOS, Android (Linux based) and even OS X / MacOS (Unix based). Yet they canâ(TM)t manage to put it out for common Linux distro such as Ubuntu or Mint? And thatâ(TM)s despite building a linux subsystem for windows and claiming to âwant to play wellâ(TM)? Such crap.. MS hasnâ(TM)t changed itâ(TM)s ways
Too many distros and not enough marketshare on the desktop.
Canadian Carriers are even worse. They want nothing more than to have net neutrality so that they can charge you a premium for all of the data you use. These large companies like to play both sides but they would like nothing more than to double charge you for your phone calls if they implemented Voice over LTE because under net neutrality, they cannot favour their voice data over other people's data which means that you get unlimited voice but then they will charge you for going over the data limit.
You are a bit confused where you think everyone uses the same codec with the same settings with the same tolerances for latency. You cannot assume that the same generic "type" work the same.
Also, as others have suggested, some companies like Netflix can offer appliances that host content on the ISP side to reduce traffic outside of their network making it possible for you to get a decent stream in the first place.
Net Neutrality would destroy that. Should regional caching services like Akamai also be illegal?
but smaller companies can't do this, which is what NN is all about. Netflix got special treatment
and it wasn't the ISP's as much as L3 and Cogent changing routing tables after taking on Netflix as a customer
Which side are you arguing for? Why is it Netflix's problem that smaller outfits cannot afford to do the same thing? You are also going under the false assumption that all video uses the same codec with the same settings and that all streams have the same tolerances for latency.
You basically want to destroy the ability to provide streamed content in a consistent way. This is really no different than some sites using caching services like Akamai whereas others do not to service certain regions better.
With Net neutrality, a carrier cannot make a deal with a company like Netflix to give you unlimited streaming. They have to treat all data the same. It also means that you might get a certain speed but not have a guarantee of consistency if they cannot shape traffic based on the type of data. Streaming video or video conferencing requires more consistency and low latency whereas downloading files does not.

Sorry but french fell out of favour as a language of international business a long time ago. English is now the lingua franca.
