I must say, SketchUp wins hands-down over any floor-plan-type software. It does have 3D modelling and walkthroughs, but you don't have to use them. The only thing is that it's not inexpensive, as you specified (the web site says US$475), but there is a free 30 day trial. Check out some of the tutorials, too, to see what amazing things you can do with this app.
Artifacts may show up more frequently in Half-Life 2 simply because we've eliminated lots of other artifacts
What? Apart from not making much sense, is this implying that new artifacts are being traded for a lot of older ones? (i.e. get rid of lots of old ones, but by doing that, introduced some more in the process)
In Mac OS X 10.2, you can open System Preferences -> Universal Access. There's a button there called "Set display to grayscale", which will do as it says. This is great to check things like this (also useful for web design).
Not quite. Rather than writing data to the discs normally from the inside to the outside of the disc, Nintendo does it vice-versa and write the data to the disks from the outside in. Therefore the data is written to (and read from) the disk backwards. But the disk itself spins the normal way around.
Is this true? If so, I'm thinking it's a good idea with today's optical drives; If I'm not mistaken, the RPM is constant (well, pretty much) in modern drives. Does this mean that by writing the data that is read first to the outside, it will load quicker as the outer rim has a larger linear velocity? This would make game start-up times quicker, no? (in addition to funky piracy protection)
Hmm, they're separating out patches for the OS and its applications? Interesting, considering their recent move to make the latest version of IE the last 'standalone' one... How will they differentiate OS and applications if they keep doing this? (Real question, not sarcastic/rhetorical)
What's wrong with good, old-fashion percent signs? Sorry for the off-topic, but using "pc" seems to me to be stupid, a waste of space, and possibly ambiguous.
The only game-related novel I've read was Myst - The Book of Atrus. I read it a few years ago, but I remember that it was excellent. (Did I get the first post?)
Is it possible for things like this to be distributed as 'source' format, i.e. runnable in Quake 2, rendered in real-time? Kinda like the demo format; I remember seeing some Quake 1 demos a while ago that were edited together and then rendered on the user's machine. This would make the file hugely smaller...
Handling user grown machines? Just groan at the users.

Hmm, non-breaking spaces didn't come out in "Men in Black"...
So that's the advanced technology that the Bugs had in MeninBlack! (Remember: "Give me sugar. In water.")
Be careful, grapes will no longer be born, they will be grown. Oh, wait...

LOL, TMA-2? Interesting name...
It's summer down here. Yesterday in Adelaide it was 35C, it was 37 a couple of days ago...
