It would take an awful lot of editing of US Laws and Regulations as well as changes in the attitudes of those in Wall Street and running the US Corporations in order to see real change. Most of all, you would need to see real compassion in the hearts and minds of those running the world. This will not happen anytime soon. Most likely, what we will see is a polarized election debate wherein the 99% are pitted against the 1%. The Republicans are going to continue to say No. The Democrats are going to vilify the very people that they will support post elections. The right wingers on Fox news are going to derp some more. The left wingers are going to mock the derping some more and we will be ... still ... at the mercy of the 1%. It has been this way for more than a thousand years. Just about the only way I can think of to wrest power away from these folks is if the 99% were to stop buying everything for more than 90 days. How many more? How many more uncompleted series, idiotic product placements and other Brainwashing Network TV Executive decisions are we going to face before we finally get away from the middle man? I’m probably going to disconnect my DirecTV box now because there really isn’t anything left to watch on network TV. The networks keep eliminating anything resembling creative content and continue to deprive America of some of the finest writings out there. How much longer do we have to wait before enough of us get together to form an online media company that works? I’ve got a nice monitor / computer setup. For what it costs of DirecTV for one year, I could afford a very nice Computer / Monitor setup. And if I’m patient enough to time-shift my TV, I could do the same for online content. The model would be extraordinarily affordable if folks were to band together. One million regular viewers of a TV series on network TV is laughable. One million regular viewers of online content is a smash hit. Add in some micro currency ($0.99 cents a month / viewer) and for twelve million a year, anyone certainly could put together a creative and production team that works. I don’t know why Network TV folks don’t take content and put it in web only mode if it works better. For example, SGU and Caprica maybe is a better model for the online universe. That is where the audience is anyway. So put ads up on TV saying “Exclusively online”. If viewer-ship rises enough on the web then maybe transition it back to TV. Why the hell does everything need to be TV centric anymore? This is the 21st century for frak’s sake.

  11. The *obvious* has been left out on Video Games Linked To Child Aggression · · Score: 1

In all of these studies and research, I am shocked by the fact that the obvious truth has been left out.

In our quest for "purity" through social aestheticism (teenage pregnancy "linked" to sex on tv and now video games "linked" to violence) we have left out the obvious fact. We are members of the animal kingdom. Our species is "human". We have all the same characteristics of other animals in the kingdom. We "hunt" for food at local food sources (the store). We adapt to social orders of things similar to other apes (we call it voting). And for all this, we call ourselves more "advanced" when we try to root out things that took evolution hundreds of thousands of years to program into our genes.

When are we going to accept the obvious truth? Instead of denying that it exists, we must accept that it does exist. We do not have hundreds of millions of murderers out there. Humans evolved through a clan-like experience. As recently as a thousand years ago humans were hunting bears, deers and god knows what else that is now extinct in the forest. They didn't just wake up one day and learn how to hunt. This was a learned skill and largely a group experience.

So when little kids are practicing Jackie Chan moves I think about the fact that evolution is a pretty grand thing. It is better instead, to teach children the difference between right and wrong and to teach them how to think. It would be near impossible to guard all children from the fact that evolution is at work even today.

I doubt anyone will read this as it is already OldNews(TM). But I find cases where folks sue over 87 pieces of email to be discouraging. As an ISP myself, I have to constantly monitor the emails and what my own customers are doing to ensure that no spam is going out. We're signed up to the different Spam reporting systems from AOL, Yahoo, MSN and others. When someone clicks on "THIS IS SPAM!!!!" we know about it. More than not, the majority (over 90%) of the reported "THIS IS SPAM!!!!" are things like notifications of orders and things like that from our e-commerce stores. Now imagine if one of those people take an ISP to court and say that they're spamming when, in fact, they are only doing business according to the accepted norms of business which is to effectively communicate with the customers as to the status of the order? According to the agreements that AOL, Yahoo and others enforce according to the anti-spam rules, I can now no longer email order notifications and things like that to the folks that click on "THIS IS SPAM!!!!" button. Next, I'm sure these folks (as has happened) called to customer service saying they're not getting order notifications. At that point, they get told that "they gotta stop reporting these things as spam" if they want to continue getting those emails. In my opinion, the suit against these guys for 87 pieces of spam (a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of the spam) is frivolous and a complete time wasting enterprise. Spam doesn't account but for a fraction of the bandwidth and with today's anti-spam engines that uses heuristics and not the "cyber-terrorist" actions of others, we don't get that much spam to begin with. The only folks that are making the money on the whole spam versus anti-spammers are the lawyers and the software vendors. Everyone else should be slapped around for being stupid. Quit yer whining!!!
