the RIAA has money to gain... money is more of a motivating factor than protecting children. Now if someone were STEALING child porn and sharing it for free with other sicko's, violating the copyright of said filth, well then maybe I could get into some serious trouble./sarcasm
My SSID is broadcasted as "FreeInternet"
It is firewalled from my real network and unless it gets in the way of my gaming, I have no problem with whoever using my broadband. I have a "click here" to accept that you are not going to do anything illegal (via DNS intercept), mac addresses are logged, and most known methods of p2p are blocked... but if you need to check your google groups and you are near my house, why the heck would I care if you do so? It took like 2 hours to set that up. So would it still be illegal to knowingly use my "FreeInternet" network?
I use SUPER to do all my transcoding, to be honest I started encoding in DIVX because it is almost as good as XVID and the Tivo Plus app supports it out of the box. It is not very well documented, but TIVO Plus requires that you install quicktime in order to transcode Mpeg4 files.
Tivo Desktop 2.6 is the version it displays when I start it up. It dumps to "Treo" files (downscale mpeg4), it dumps to ipod and a few other formats. It allows real time download from my computer to my tivo using the tivo remote for DIVX, mpeg4 and a few other formats.
I downloaded it ($20 fee for "plus" version) like 8 months ago and have been using it to watch drm free legitimate backups of my DVDs on my TV ever since.
after a writer is sufficiently comfortable with the amount of money he has, he is only writing for himself (and maybe his fans). There is no need to ship product. I think the truely great writers don't typically focus on shipping, they write because they want to, because they need to, not because it pays the bills.
I bet we could purchase Uranium from Iran. I hear we have a good relationship with them and they are experts at enriching this stuff for power production.
that is my point, to a really flashy exec, a $40,000 H2 is NOT FLASHY, it is tackey... a $90,000 AMG 63 that looks like a normal mercedes to mere mortals is significantly more meaningful than a 40k parking problem. They don't buy cheap things like H2s. If they have an SUV it's a Cheyene Turbo S. Otherwise they are just a poser.
the Windows flavor of treos is fairly new and you definatly feel the price pressure... to the point I am not sure anyone than Exchange Server "push" Lock-ins are the only thing selling these things.
Treo 755p (palm) - 320x320 screen, 312mhz processor
Treo 750 (windows)- 240x240 screen (looks like crap compared to Palm), 300mhz processor The windows version does have a persistant file system and the palm does not, which is nice if your battery and backup battery both die, but this has never happened in my 4 years of owning a treo.
The price difference? The windows one costs $100 more, for (imo vastly) inferior hardware.
Not to nitpick, but actual wealthy people don't drive those kinds of cars, the neuvo riche or yuppies or people pretending to be rich do. Execs drive high end mercedes and other subtle cars. An H2 yells "I WANT YOU TO THINK I HAVE MONEY" which is not what a real exec wants.
Cancer cells do not die a natural death. So is it a good idea if we release all these cancer killing viruses to spread and knock out cancer before we understand how to make healthy cells "immortal"?
Wouldn't it be the kicker if we learned the secret to stopping aging (and staving off death for a few hundred years) right after we released a virus that targeted immortal cells? That would be awesome. It would be like "hey we found the fountain of youth, but the Drs that came before us figured out how to kill it first and did so without any regard to the implications of the "gifts" that cancer could have given us.
That being said, a cure for cancer is better than a longer-term life span I suppose, because it is much closer to our current grasp.
lets go halfsies on a 12 carat gold bar. After we buy it, I will take the half that is gold, you can take the half that is not gold, and we will be even.
Of course the question is what kind of parent lets their kid cheat!
more importantly what kind of parent lets their kid play second rate RTS games like AoE when perfectly good C&C, Blizzard, and Dune2000 games are plentiful and cheap.
My friends taught their son to type by setting a password on his computer at about age 4. He would ask them what the password was and they would say "mom" or whatever and sometimes he would ask how to spell it, and sometimes not. By the age of 7 he was picking his own passwords.
We have a $45,000 high quality high volume scan/printer that is a paperweight.
They purchased it for scanning confidential documents. The hitch is that there is only 1 way to get documents off of this printer: A public non-protected network share... This is basically against the law for a bank.
I suggested that I could set up a private network and they could securely upload docs to the proper place with the right security, however that plan was nixed for being "non-standard"
The result is that now they consult me when buying a pencil sharpener because they don't know how it will affect network security.
I guess we are just limited to:
Heroes
Journeyman
Terminator:Sara Conner Chronicles
Big Bang Theory
Lost
Family Guy
Moonlight
Numb3rs
Jericho
Chuck
Knight Rider
Just because there are currently no space operas, doesn't mean there aren't geek shows... oh yeah and if you just wait a couple of months the new star wars CG show will come on cartoon network.
I move my SIM card from my Treo to a tiny flip phone a lot, because the Treo is crap for talking on the phone, and the flip phone is crap for everything else.
I had the unfortunate experience of being stuck in the pit of the Pacific North West for like 3 months on a contract. One of the funniest things to watch is all of the Oregon idiots trying to pump gas in Washington. The best was a group of like 17 year olds that were trying to figure it out by committee and eventually drove off with no gas.
I am sorry to the furbies out there, but I don't give a crap if the guy tied a steak around his neck and pissed into the tiger's mouth. He was not on an african safari, he was not approaching a wild mountain lion. He was at a fzcking zoo - a place that should be "taunt-proof". The news media constantly paints this thing like it is his fault, which is just insane. A tiger escaped and killed someone. Unless the mans actions were "He taunted the tiger by opening the secure door to his cage with bolt cutters" then the man's actions should NOT come into scrutany.
It's a bit like blaming the rape victim for wearing a short skirt.
In my game room I have the following set up and ready to play:
Sega Master, NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Wii
Between 30-70 games each for the others, and about 8 for the Wii
Based on those options, the SNES gets the most play time by far. Followed closely by the Wii, then NES, then Genesis.
My household includes me (the kook who collected all these systems), My non-gamer (Wii or Ducktails on NES only), and my two children (who keep the SNES warm for me).
a very advanced AI robot would fight a war by sending statistical odds to the opposing army of robots, upon which time they would realize which side should surrender.

That's not true. Quite a few modern engines are factory certified to run at least on E85.
which is neither diesel nor bio-diesel.

Can anyone remind me why pornography needs to be "fought"?
because religion is a bigger business, and they are in direct competition.

Who lost their houses?
the thousands and thousands of working class people who run lighting, sound, catering, construction, etc etc for these shows.
The writers and the studios are probably among those LEAST effected by this strike.
I move my SIM card from my Treo to a tiny flip phone a lot, because the Treo is crap for talking on the phone, and the flip phone is crap for everything else.
burn karma burn.

yeah, like they can never learn how to put a condom on.
