Maybe it's just me, or does 80MB not seem like that much when you're downloading an office suite? It's been a while since I've download^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hseen people download MS office, but isn't it in the 1+GB range? Granted, it has more features/programs, but in my books, 80MB isn't enough to complain about these days.
You're right, it doesn't have an optical drive... and that's what I like about it. I can't remember the last time I needed an optical drive for anything other than OS installation, and you can get USB optical drives for that (which require special drivers for the installation.) The advantage to this style of notebook is their weight. I've used two older lightweight notebooks, one ThinkPad (4lbs.) and one from another company (just over 2lbs,) and neither of them had a built-in optical drive.
My notebook right now weighs in at 8lbs (without the bag!) and I can't really take it anywhere without the massive power supply it needs since the battery life is only 2hrs. For me, having a notebook computer that weighs less than your lightest textbook is far better than having one that can play DVDs on the go. And if you really want to, just rip and compress your DVDs on another computer and transfer them to the hard drive. If you need to install software, you can either attach a USB optical drive, or if you have another computer on the network, just put the disc in that machine and install from there, it works fine. The only thing that gets kind-of sketchy in that situation is playing DVDs over a wireless network with a poor connection.
To sum it all up, just because you don't know how to use a computer that doesn't have an optical drive doesn't mean that nobody else can.
And if you really really want an internal optical drive in it, supposedly the "ThinkPad Multi-Burner Plus Ultrabay Slim Drive" will work. See the lenovo ThinkPad website for details.
Maybe they meant the servers could be embedded in the tundra... although somehow I can forsee that contributing faster to the melting of the (north) polar ice.
If everyone stopped running none essential services during the winter, it would ease the energy burdon.
Do you mean, to conserve energy, don't run non-essential services during the summer? Most people can deal with the excess heat generated by computers during the winter (hence a smaller net energy loss.) It is in the summer that you come across problems with wasting energy. Every extra Watt of energy you generate in the summer needs about another Watt (correct me if I'm wrong here) of energy spent to remove it from the building.
Maybe it's just because I'm from Canada, but I only run non-essential services in the winter. It's the only time it doesn't cook me in my apartment.
The only major thing you "conserve" by not running your non-essential services in the winter is money on your power bill.
Remember: Conserving energy is more than just using less electricity.
This definately seemed like it was the next logical step and I also agree that Geist blew it out of proportion. As long as this is used the same way wire-taps are, it's fine by me.
Heh, I especially like one of the last lines:
"Michael Geist is the Canada"
Yeah, I know that it was accidentaly chopped, but it is stil mildly comical.
Woah there... if you thought that the general public would select their favorite bands to be people with talent you are sadly mistaken. There are no talented mainstream bands (at least they are not talented as musicians) unless they have either been around for a loooong time or are making a second coming with less talent and people never realized they were talented before... There are exceptions to this... but you'd be hard pressed to find one if you had an unbiased opinion on everything./* examples of talented artists without a mainstream fanbase -- ravi shankar, blank and jones, afu ra, atmosphere, aceyalone, and a bunch of other underground artists... not to say that all or even most underground artists are very talented... just these ones were. btw, I do know that ravi shankar is not an underground artist... but is still mostly unheardof by the general public */

If we get rid of the raised floors, how am I supposed to impress people with my knowledge of zinc whiskers?

I think you meant to say: Fucking Kill(TM)

Why? Because it's a quote.
FTFA:
"FSF President and founder, Richard Stallman, presents this year's award to Theo de Raadt."
Does this make it any worse?
