I guess it is finally time to stop upgrading my burner software. I use Nero for software, music, and MP3 discs; I only use Easy CD Creator just for ISOs. I guess this won't really effect me... I have a Creative 8432 burner, there's usually quite wide support for the Creative drives.
The article mentions that the full featured Tyan Thunder K7 is about $600, while the MSI MS-6502 will go for around $200. I would prefer the Tyan, but $600 is a bit steep, I hope they offer a more consumer priced solution.
I can't wait until gas prices in the US reach $5/gallon, then all these huge SUV driving motherf*ckers will be crying. Me, I drive the Insight, I get about 55 mpg, so that's 605 miles to the 11 gallon tank.
Authorities are baffled again as the Slashdot DDoS attack takes down 2 sites in one day. Earlier today, a site with instructions on building a CD-ROM automobile CD player, now a Quake site. What's next, goat sex?
Yet another site has been struck down by the Slashdot DoS effect. Authorities are scrabling to figure out how to stop it. This year alone, over 20 sites have been taken out this year alone.
I think that parts of IT are useful to unionize. The bottom of the barrel is Technical Support, people that work this job generally get low wages and slave driver managers. I used to work for an Virginia Based ISP, Erols Internet, which was bought-out by RCN. I worked there as a high-level technical support person, I made $8.50/hour, which I think still qualifies for welfare in my area. I worked 8 hours per day, and hated every minute of it. After I left, I heard things got worse, upto people getting written up for not going on break, exactally when they were supposed to or coming back a couple minutes late.
I have used Napster and I have used Gnutella. Though I am still torn between being loyal to the artists and trying to rebel against the recording company. I agree that taking a bit of money out of the Recording Industry's pocket is acceptable, I do not agree that taking a little money out of the artists' pockets is acceptable. What can be done about this? The only thing I see is some kind of Union of Music Artists. Followed by a protest, which would include no new music, no shows, etc.
I am currently contracting as a web developer for a large company that deals with home loans. This is one of several jobs, in the DC Metro area that I have worked at over the last few years. Generally, I work 9am - 5pm, though if it were up to me I would come in around 11am. I always try to get out by 5, with a good half-hour to hour lunch. So I'll put in 7-8 hours of work per day. Well actually thinking about it, this is minus the time that it takes me to browse Slashdot and read my personal e-mail several times, read some other news, look through Perl Monks, etc. So maybe I actually do 6 hours of web development per day. I am not a lazy man, I just don't care. I find it very important not to get stressed out, especially if I am coding. Also, I am a contractor, so I work harder, I get.. well.. NOTHING. In fact, this company is so large, that even if I were employed, the probability of me gaining anything material out of excessive hours is fairly low.
If you think that you deserve extra pay, demand it.
My boss just e-mailed me a message asking for my home phone number; my first thought was to tell him to go F himself, but I like my job, so I told him that, "I never give my home phone number to any job, ever. You can have my cellphone number though: ###-###-####."
I usually don't answer my phone, if I don't recognise the number. Plus, it is not in my contract to be on-call, even in the case of an.. um.. emergency.
I did my own taxes using Turbo Tax, I received $2k back! This was not a suprise, on my W2 forms I always put down in the addtional witheld: $my hourly rate. This is a forced savings account, so I do not spend money:)
Hemos: Taco, people keep submitting these stupid stories, what should we do?
Taco: Well, Hemos, we should just post really low quality crap, so that these people stop submitting the stories.
Hemos: Won't that lower the quality of our site?
Taco: No, we'll just get Katz to post something stupider.
In a recent event today, yet another site has been brought to it's knees by a/. DDoS attack. The current victim, a small site called: darkmazda.com, run by Christopher M. Park, who appears to be a vintage Nintendo game hobbyist. This site may still be available through Google's Cache.
Appearently, the/. DDoS attack is platform independent. It seems to attack sites without predjudice, but seems to be focused toward geeky content.

Dreamcast released a game caled Crazy Taxi, last year, I think. The game is basically one giant advertisment. Customers ask to goto places such as Original Levis Store, The Gap, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. The game is quite fun to play, but the blatent advertisemnt is quite pathetic.
What I find really strange about Friends is the lack of ethnicity in New York City. I have been to New York City, there weren't just a bunch of lame white people there. In fact, when I hang out with my friends, not everyone is white.
It is just weird!
I recently moved into a house with Cable TV, prior to that I did not have cable TV at all. I found myself wasting hours watching stupid crap on the Comdedy and SciFI channel. I had a talk with him and we are shutting it off. TV sucks.. your brain.
