  1. Metallica is Dead.. on Coming Soon: Burn-Proof CDs · · Score: 1

Metallica died in a car crash, after the Black album was released. Those short haired, talentless, hacks that are in Metallica now are some janitors that the Record Producers found working in their company basement.

Greedy Producers: "Hey guys, you wanna be Metallica?"
Under Paid Worker: "Ooh ooh I get to be Lars!"

  4. Worked For Me on U.S. Congress And Email · · Score: 1

I e-mailed congressman Tom Davis (Republican, Virginia), last year, about allowing Hybrid Vehicles to ride in HOV lanes. I recieved an e-mail back from one of his assistants. LaterI recieved a couple of letters from him; the last being about how Hybrid Vehicles will be allowed to use the alternative fuel plate, to ride in HOV.

I am not a Republican, nor are there a huge population of people in Virginia that own Hybrid Vehicles. The system seems to work to me!

Though I live in the tech hub in the DC Metro area, so that may be why Tom Davis finds e-mail to be a necessary form of communication. Perhaps in states with lower tech income, the Congressmen ignore the fact that we are in the 21st century. If I lived in one of those states, I'd be packing my bags.

  5. Re:Is there any demand for this? on Tiny, Secure Music/Data CDs Due in the Fall · · Score: 1

I don't believe that MiniDisc is dead. Definatly not mainstream, but not dead.

I have a player in my car. I think it is a very convienient media. Using CD's in a car is such a hassle, they constantly get scratched up, the cases are so bulky. They just aren't easy to handle. I can throw my MD's on the floor, leave them strewn about on the seats and various compartments and they are still fine.

I would do the MP3 thing, but flash memory is still too expensive.

    1 MD = 74 MIN @ $2/disc = ~$0.03/min
    2MB = 1.5 MIN (about)
    1 CARD = 48 MIN @ $60/DISC = $0.81/min
(using RIO 32 MB memory as an example)

I'll stick with my MD for now :)

I really think that Microsoft is running out of time. I can imagine the marketing department:

Well Bill, we've been making these inferior products, which are loaded with bugs for years now. We think there's a fairly new threat to our global domination project. Let's make up a good old Red Scare. We'll send our PR robots out and have them try the 1950's thing. I'm a good old American, this code is developed by many people, it must be bad, it must be run by those commies. We must keep our American Apple Pie values and destroy this new commie threat.

And if that doesn't work, they'll just try something stupider.

  8. Just Lazy on Will Browser-Neutral Web Soon Become Thing Of Past? · · Score: 1

As a web developer, I find this guy to be just lazy. The well _I_ don't want to code for other browsers is just pathetic. It doesn't take a genius to code for both browsers nor is it very hard to make sites that don't make Netscape slow to a grind or crash, when you open them. If you can't use XLS MicroCrap-Only code, then use something that works, like Perl. It's easy to learn, and is pretty damn platform unspecific.

I use Perl on NT and *nix .. it has just about everything that I need for a server side scripting language! Professionaly I decided against focusing on ASP, because I don't want to be limited to one browser.

I also accept the most people do not have broadband and do not or cannot download 50mb of IE 5.0 at 56k or less! Also, to expect someone like my grandmother, my mother, or Joe Average to figure out how to download Internet Explorer or Netscape for that matter is totally ridculous!

I would ask .. how dumb are these people? I worked technical support for many months .. I already know.

I wonder when .. oh when .. will people look to these troubled kids' parents for the problem.

Hmm .. let's see .. the Columbine case:
Kids treated like shit in school, probably also treated like shit by their parents (this fact was probably covered up by the media, to preserve the 'perfect' american image) .. they go out and slaughter a bunch of "jocks" at their high schoool.

Well, from my experience in High School, when I was awake anyway, the "jocks" tended to be over competative assholes, not all of them, but the ones that thought the school sport was the most important thing in their lives. They insulted many of the intellectual and "odd-ball" students, probably, becasue their parents treated them the same way.

    THIS COUNTRY IS FUCKING PATHETIC

I don't watch the news very much any more ... I just don't care. I think I'm going to register myself as a corporation and get one of those nifty swoosh logos.
