The coolest coin-op game that i've ever seen was this thing in the LUXOR in Vegas. I think it was called The Shocker. It looked like a normal game station, but with no screen. Instead of controls it had to metal rods; and in place of the screen were a series of lights that went up to a skull head. The object of the game is to hold onto the vibrating, electrical metal rods until the skull head lit up. There are three settings low, medium, and high. I tried medium, the vibrations/charge were so strong, that I could not make my muscles release. Its crazy sado-masochistic fun!!
I guess that Compaq hopes to make a lot of money in the consumer market selling their ghetto-ass PC workstations. I'd personally rather buy a Packard Bell or an Acer than a Compaq! Doesn't look like Packard Bell is doing business in the states any more, I guess it is up to Acer.
Actually, I use USENET just about every day. There is still a decent group of users, the spamming has calmed down a bit, since USENET became obscure. It seems to be mostly long-time internet users (from the early 90's that is) and a bit of influx from new people, mostly searching for warez and p0rn.
Wow, what a nice thing for Mr. Gates to say. PacMan was release in what the late seventies to early eighties. There have been thousands of variants made and people still enjoy playing it today. I surly hope GPL will last that long and be as celebrated.
If ACME didn't want their clients to speed and truly believed what their lawyer states:
Brunswick claims it's for humanitarian reasons, that it's not about collecting money. "It saves lives by discouraging speeding. It's an accepted [rental car] trade practice." He didn't know if his client was presetting speed limits. They would simply install govenors in the car's transmission, which would make it impossible for the car to go over 65mph. Honestly I think this is just a case of corporate greed.
I have serious distrust for Compaq. Even if they make a decent palm device, their desktop machines are total crap. I use one at work with Win95, it crashes about 5-10 times per day. Just stops working, I have used them at other companies and had the same problem. I will never buy anything from Compaq!
When things like that happen to me I wonder if all the Verizon employees are drunk or just stupid. I am glad that they have some kind of competition, I just feel sorry for everyone at Covad for having to deal with their extreme incompetence.
I remember about a year ago, in Northern Virginia, the Bell Atlantic/Verizon employees went on strike. For several days, when you called 411, you'd be on hold for several minutes. I'm sure that many of the Bell employees defected to Covad. Now, if I were a pissed-off ex-Bell/Verizon employee, I'm sure that I would do my best to f*ck with Ma Bell.
Turn off your television, don't watch cable. You are not missing much. If you are reading this you are perfectly capable of going to CNN or a national newspaper for news. Stop watching soap-opera esque crap like BUFFY, it is boring and a fucking waste of time.
I remember reading a website about a year ago, by one of the lead developers of EMACS. Unfortunatly, he can not type anymore, so he can not develop anything. Try telling this guy that it's a hoax.
This is great, now MacDonalds will be able to market to children right on their textbooks. We can have scrolling banner ads with history, about how WalMart founded the west! Then in algebra we can learn how Coke is better than Pepsi!
i have lived in the US for all of my life. I agree that most people that live here are self-centered greedy bastards. The greed factor comes in through our media. USAnians (an interesting word, thanks to the coiner) are taught by our media, that we will all be famouse millionares when we grow up. Many children are sacrificed to the god of TV by their parents, who are too busy trying to bring home more and more money each day, so they can feed their zombie children more and more media. The TV god tells us that everyone is famous and happy and makes lots of money and children believe this. It is sad really.
I try to do my part to reduce the destruction of the planet, I drive an Insight, have a compost pile, recycle, and try not to shop at stores that treat their employees like garbage. I try to talk with other people, sometimes I think it helps, but mostly I think it is too late.
I think we are doing an efficient job at desroying the planet, but other countries help out too. I think the only cure for this planet is Human Genocide. It is already too late for our culture (or lack there of), maybe the next will strive. Or maybe if we're really lucky, we'll make it to Mars and strip-mine the motherfucker too.
I don't believe for a second that anyone ONLY uses Napster to download music that they already own. I think that's totaly obsurd. Oh yes, we're all good little boys and girls here, we never break any laws, like piracy.
