  1. Batch testing on Enterprise-class ATA Drives · · Score: 2, Interesting

So ATA's are tested in batches while SCSI's are tested individually. I think I will continue to run my business critical DB's on SCSI in that case. I just don't think I could sleep at night knowing I trusted some muppet at the factory to pay attention to the test result stats and report them back to the designers/production guys correctly.

At first (as a 1Mb NTL customer) I was really rufious, but actually sitting down reading the comments and thinkning about it, it really isn't as bad as it seems. The official line is if you consistently break over 1Gb a day for 3 days or more, you will get a warning. You will not simply get cut off mid download! Now unless your the local warez kiddie running a warez ring on your house your gonna have trouble. I spend hours downloading useless crap, but when I think about the amount of time I spend, during a working week, its so little, get in from work at 6pm, download a little bit, maybe leave something over night. Once every two months download Oracle setup (2Gb) or maybe a new RH release every quarter. This is a crack down on people running a six machine share over a single IP, student types and business' not willing to pay for business rentals. Jeez, at least we haven't got to put up with 4Gb a month, now that is hard!

I love OSS, but just think...

OSS wins and almost all the servers and desktops are OSS. Then the companies that "bought" into the OSS, get annoyed that Linus is not releasing the fixes quick enough. Forks start appearing left right and center and suddenly every company has its own sponsered Linux distro.

Mr Gates waits patriently in the wings waiting for chaos to reach its peak before finally saying..."Well there is a reasonable, inexpensive option for your OS problems, you know?"....(thinks to himself "once more the wheel of fate turns in Bill's direction...mwhahahahaha!")

DALNet compared to other well run IRC nets, really is the pits, so many spammers and kiddies wasting everyone's time. Perhaps once those kiddies get onto other more strict networks, they will finally get slapped down and kept under control.
