With OS X Server, all you have to do is create a user account with the nice GUI that they provide and all of the setup is done behind the scenes. If you don't want the user folder in the default place, there is an easy way to change that in the GUI.
I admin a Win2k Server and an XServe and I have to say, the XServe is worlds better imo. Setup is easy and fast. Changes are simple. Plus if you run into anything that you can't accomplish with the GUI, you can bring up the Terminal or ssh into it and make the changes from there.
Plus, it's in a 1U case. My Win2k server is about 3/4 as powerful and it takes up 5Us.
In the long run, I don't think anything can save TiVo in it's current state. In the near future, many PC's will be stored not on your desk, but in your entertainment center.
Apple's AirPort Express is a prime example of the computer world moving in that direction.
Don't think for a second that MS coded this software themselves. They purchased RAE Antivirus about a year ago and promptly shut down their software development (I know, I use their software to do server level email scanning), but definition updates are still forthcoming. I saw this coming a long time ago.

Forget HDTV, where is our Smell-o-vision?
This just gives SCO the fuel they need in court. If more companies bow before SCO, they may just get enough momentum to pull this off.

I am sort of glad that they cancelled it. Today's LucasArts would make it so PC, it would not even resemble the good old Sam and Max Hit the Road.
Mr. Smith, I see you are preparing to masturbate. Would you like to see our selection of free pornography on the internet?
Unrated version of Star Wars? What would that entail? Greedo shoots first and Han chops his head off with a katana?
Personally, I would like to see an unedited version of the dancing girl at Jabba's.
Software needs to be free because no one person or organization can possibly make perfect code. But get enough eyes at it, and we can get closer.
Kinda like the infinite number of monkeys.
I'll have your Spam, I love it!

It seems you could do some minor changes to MythTV to accomplish this. It does everything else under the sun.
Can you spam me now? Good.

Apple == You own data.
Napster == Your rent data.
Who want's to do that?
Now all we need is an ocr program for the phone.
Nope, it's there.
Why do we have to ruin everything by getting the government involved. Look at any gov't agency and it's independent counterpart (i.e. FedEx vs. USPS)
