So they're saying we should avoid the allegedly "atrocious" quality of pirated CDs and buy ringtones? I don't know about you, but there are few things more hellish and foul than a 30-second clip of a song encoded at 64kbps playing through a mobile phone speaker.
Linn Records offers downloads of 24-bit 96kHz songs. It would also be great to see DSD files available sometime. Those formats would really bring interest.
It's good to see the possibility of lossless music nevertheless.:)
+1. I still buy only CDs (and SACDs) because the sound quality is far superior and I don't have to deal with DRM. A lot of the obscure recordings I enjoy aren't available for download anyhow.
There's a market for CDs and a market for downloadable music. Which one is better is a purely subjective matter.
...along with his "free" OS supported by ads displayed based on crawling the user's entire computer. Of course, this is Steve Ballmer we're talking about. He's been known to squirt his relatives. Ew.
A regular bike is much, much, much more efficient. I don't know exactly how much without a wattage output vs. distance measurement, but there's no way this could be anywhere as efficient as a normal bike.
Excellent post--I agree with you completely about organically- and sustainably-raised beef--but I have a few edits:
* The "Eat for your Blood Type" diet is a fad with no scientific basis. If you want to learn more about nutritional needs, check out some more scientifically-grounded stuff. There's a great book out there (The Food Revolution by John Robbins) that is quite information. Note, however, that it does have a vegetarian bias.:)
* FYI, the term "free range" (when applied to poultry) can be used arbitrarily. Look for "cage free", which is something that chicken farms need auditing for. Not sure if the same applies for beef (about "free range", that is)
80/20 isn't that lean, no, but it's a whole lot tastier. In one of the most common applications of ground beef (grilled hamburger patties), the fat keeps the meat from drying out. When you're making a meat sauce, the extra fat provides texture.
I guess I'm just arguing for quality over quantity. I'd rather have a tiny cup of hot cocoa made with whole milk than 16oz. of hot-water sludge.
Fact: Tiny, equalized-the-fuck-out-of full-range drivers do not a high-fidelity system make. However, 12 tiny cube speakers make for a great Sharper Image catalog picture.
Fact: Mr. Bose thought it would be a great idea to mimic acoustics of a live performance by taking his measured 11% : 89% direct to indirect sound ratio (ok, first off, where was he sitting in the concert hall when he got those numbers?) and implement that in his speakers. The high-end Acoustimass series had 1 driver pointing toward you and 8 pointing away.
Fact: A performance's acoustic space is already part of a recording, so doing what Bose did makes no sense whatsoever, unless you're going for gee-whiz factor. However, it has allowed such great jokes as "Bose: At least they have the decency to point 8 of their drivers away from you"
PETA needs to waste more time and money by hiring Limp Bizkit to perform "I gave it all for Tanooki" in protest.
...is better in freestyle form.

Perhaps Facebook (backed by Microsoft $) is now looking to get its apps in other places in order to compete with Google's OpenSocial, maybe?
Your implementation is far too simple-minded. Here's what the experts at Diebold use:
short demv(short cur_v) {
float InvSqrt (float x){
float xhalf = 0.5f*x;
int i = *(int*)
i = 0x5f3759df - (i>>1);
x = *(float*)
x = x*(1.5f - xhalf*x*x);
return x;
}
cur_v += sqrt((float)cur_v) * InvSqrt((float)cur_v);
return cur_v;
}
How could it not work??

That explains their girlfriends.

Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, coffee-nosed, maloderous, pervert!!!

However, it is really awesome.

Sweet. I'm putting format c: in my HD Photo's autoexec.bat block. ;)

The best part is that it appears that the study didn't even factor in the UAC popups.
You are pointing out Vista's flaws. (C)ancel or (A)llow?
