I don't think that you could convince Microsoft to change their code to allow software who's primary usage is piracy, including that of Microsoft products. In fact, I think this particular behavior was indeed by design.
It wouldn't surprise me if Babylon 5 did actually lose money. It didn't have the widespread love of a cross section of the populace the way that Star Trek, or Star Wars did. Non Geeks are rather indifferent to the show. Most wouldn't remember it now, those that do just remember changing the channel when it came on. You can admit liking Star Trek in any social gathering, babylon 5 requires a carefully selected group of people to find some one that won't laugh, or just stare at you.
Yeah. I've heard similar statements from my friends that have interned there over the summer. But, man its still quite an awesome place to visit. That really was my dream to work there, when I was in grade school. It still inspires that sense of awe. I wonder if they'd let me just live there and herd the buffalo, or at least ride one to work. I must go again soon, so I can look out from the tower's observation deck and stare at the magnificent dirt circle.
Magazines simply can't compete with the interactivity and frequency of websites and blogs. The model is dying so all special interest magazines are feeling the pinch.
Oh good someone from management. I'd like to talk to you for a second. Yeah... Can I just get a shot of espresso in a tall cup( because you idiots don't consider drinking straight espresso to be normal) and be good for the rest of the day? I'd hate to wreck the ambiance you've worked so hard to achieve with the whole air of pseudo poser coffee connoisseur ordering that you encourage.
Oh, everyone knows what tjx is these days. The biggest credit card theft ever. Its like not knowing who sco is a couple months after the law suite started. Well, maybe not but this is going down as the biggest security screw up ever. Thats big.
Right but would the courts accept Linus opinion in this matter as Law? Or would they conclude that the acceptance of a binary driver, allows for any binary driver, as derivative works are a loose definition open to interpretation?
No, Sco basically said that they retain ownership on the parts they added to unixware( which don't affect IBM's code which predates that). It is relevant in its on going trial against Novell. part of the deal was that novell agreed to non compete with Sco as part of the deal. Sco's arguing that distributing linux ( that does have unix code in it, according to Sco ) unfairly violated the non-compete clause in their contract.
Ok, you don't like the GPL. Is there another license, that does it better in your opinion that still preserves the what most consider to be the best aspects of the GPL? Maybe we can release GPL 3.1 Or TING 1.0 (TING Is Not GPL).
Of course I care who is at the top of the food chain. They'll be paying for my social security for the next million years after that point. Based upon the evidence I've collected showing that I have never actually died before, I see no reason why it should happen before 2 million years from now, provided I avoid car crashes, werewolves, and vitamin K-19.
Yeah growing up, we didn't have cable because it was too expensive. And yet my friends that were worse off than we were financially, did have cable because of the community service.
I'm really considering dropping cable when I move into my new place. Cable is taking up way too much coding/reading/doing productive stuff time.
If a single company patents it, it can sue everyone else who uses it into oblivion. Thus raising the advertising rates due to the monopoly, and reducing the number of applications actually using it.
Quite true, however it is the poor that end up getting forced into selling there selves. Its the rich using the poor because they have more money. Same sad story as the drug trade.
Actually, I've been having some problems with my insight recently. The other day I was unable to insee what was on the other side of something. But I think the mods have it correctly, I'm only about 50% insightful, although highly underrated. I think even they underate my underatedness.
Clarification: I'm did not mean to imply that the US constitution is the perfect document, simply that it referred to universal rights. Now that I think about it, I might be thinking of the declaration of independence.
I still maintain that its the height of hypocrisy to enforce Human rights in countries that don't agree on them ( China, North Korea, many arab states, Isreal, ect), if we do not hold that they transcend the laws of man.
Elton has a bias against technology. He says so in the article. He doesn't use it. So how can he possibly know what its affect on music is? His reputation carries a big weight because of his past brilliance, but we have to be careful that we understand the limits of his insight.
Here is where we get into some thorny issues. What are rights? Can someone has more rights in one country than another? Is whats fair here fair in in a different country. If we agree that there are differences in rights between people living in one country versus another, than how can we even talk about human rights abuses? I maintain that your rights are as the US constitution would state: God given, meaning in this context they are the same everywhere independent of any countries laws. To believe in universal rights, is to believe in universal wrongs. In this case, he should be tried for his alleged crimes as his potential treatment in the US would not violate his rights ( as they are unlikely to sentence him to the death penalty or Gitmo his ass).
or can anybody defend moral relativism and still support Universal Human Rights? I'd be interested to hear the argument, to say the least.
I was referring to the general case at hand technology is more than just software, it includes hardware where my statement makes more sense. Also, from what I've heard CPM was more expensive on IBM PC.
Well, economics have something to do with marketing every now and then. We need to figure out the best technology at the best price. That sometimes results in inferior but cheaper technology taking root. I, for one, am glad that people other than the four richest kings of Europe own computers.
Same difference. I'm sure microsoft is also looking into the problem. Being who they are and what they do, they don't usually allow people to monitor the progress of their security fixes. I'm not mozilla won't be the first to patch, but its sort of like trying to decide if the red snapper is better than what ever is in the box that Hiro-San is bringing down the aisle right now.

They only require a little patience, a couple extra spider legs, and some super glue.
Well, if its never been done there, then maybe it should! I'd go if I could afford it , really I would.
On a side note, I think slashdot may just have been made inaccessible in china due to this thread. Or has it always been that way?

So why is 1998's data affected, when it occurred before they changed the data collection procedures?

I think you misspelled "Touchy". And also I think someone switched the "-" key for the "+".

That is the difference between the wealthy prostitutes and the poor ones: choice.
