As long as there are different rendering engines, things will look differently. The biggest problem is that you cannot have multiple versions of Internet explorer installed on the same computer.
I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have killed win95. I cut my teeth on C on win95. If you did that in a driver, it would crash win 95. But usually that would only crash the program you were running. Win was so unstable that if you breathed wrong it would crash, so it was often difficult to figure out what if anything you did caused it to crash. Leave it alone, it crashed. touch it, it crashed. Speak to it in Spanish and it crashed.
Three fixed wheels on each side, so it could steer like a tank? I'd go one more axle to eight wheels six on the ground at a time and then deploy the fourth axle in the event of a flat, fix the tire while that axle is not spinning, and then return it to service when required. I wouldn't want to have to change a tire on a rotating axle. Or your could have just five wheels no fixed axles and deploy the fifth when one tire broke.
Ok, we can get into an interpretation argument now, but I think that proves my point. Would the zero tolerance law have been violated if the strip search were not conducted, or was the constitution violated by "working around it "? you can come up with a better rule than " all suspicions of drug possession result in strip searches by school staff". Even that's messed up. It should be more like "all suspicions of drug possession result in contacting the appropriate law enforcement authorities".
Ahh... That link explains a lot. However, I have a different parenting strategy. If the kid does something wrong, let him know it. If he does something good let him know it too. Calling them a moron is ok, as long as its balanced out with genius every now and then. Of course, don't actually use the word, if the kid is a moron. Like Linus that should only be used to indicate a temporary lapse of judgment in an otherwise intelligent person.
No, the Mysql version Google uses is free. They release patches periodically and are generally Mysql and Innodb's best friend ( along with percona) Innodb recently released a new official version of their engine containing the google code.
Well, they are basing their conclusion that cold fusion can not work based upon currently understood theory. Its always tough for new, unpredicted results to be accepted when they don't fit in with accepted theory. That's a good thing. The more fantastical the results differ from the accepted theory, the more proof their must be. And some one at some point will have to make an amendment to the theory, if this holds up. No one really wants to go down that path unless its absolutely certain that it is an unexplained result. So until there is an undeniable level of evidence ( including verification from other teams), the safe thing for theorists to do is to stick to their guns and say what they know to be true ( this should never happen).
d'oh, I was hoping that the cigar reference would have reverted to its pre clintionian olde timey Carnival meaning as in : "ding ding ding give that man a cigar". Back in the day when grown men played carnival games a cigar was often one of the top prizes. Wining it would indicate that he was strong and talented.
I wasn't really recommending that he specialize in a language, just trying to correct a misconception he had. but yes domain relavent information is always helpful, as long as you understand that you are not going to be the expert in the domain. Sometimes Programmers get it in their head that they know how everything should work. Which is great, but they often offer advice without knowing enough about the industry. Although, in rare cases ( such as the housing CDO blow up) anyone with half a brain (and who also thought longer term than two three years) would have realized the disaster was coming.
Yeah, there are times where Apples will actually be cheaper, but they update their product line less frequently than Dell. So sometimes there is a huge difference in price ( with apple's more expensive), and some times it goes the other ea slightly. I think when I bought my mac book it was $150 more than the equivalent Dell. But I could also have gone with a less powerful machine and saved more with Dell. That, I think is what most people think of. Apple's product line up has less offerings than dell, so Dell has some price points that Apple doesn't compete at.
I work with many financial institutions, Not once have I ever heard Fortran Mentioned. Usually Java or COBOL, depending on when the app was written. Don't get me wrong, I love Fortran 95. Or at least I prefer it to COBOL.
Yeah, maybe not doom. People are already upset of the minuscule chance of LHC creating a black hole. Maybe they should name it in honor of Obama who hails from the same state (Illinois).
No, I didn't miss the point. Just wanted to make sure it hit the right target. The overriding point, that my counter point is trying to make is that the is so much variance in the "absurdities" that you can't really explain the data using any of them. Its like trying to reverse engineer the butterfly effect down to a single butterfly.
Discussions are better when the two people know a little something about the subject, that's all. As for me, I consider myself a renaissance man. I know a little about everything, but I also know what I don't know about everything. Knowing what you don't know is usually the more important kind of knowledge, in my experience. It prevents me from attempting to perform brain surgery on all of the stupid people I know.
No, you are just ignorant of Catholic doctrine. But to be fair, many Catholics are as well. Baptism is Required for entry into Heaven, but there are Three kinds of baptism. By water ( normal case), by blood ( if you die for something really holy), or by desire ( you want to be baptized, but die before it or possibly you haven't been evangelized but try to live out your life according to what little you do know about God).
The idea of Limbo which other posters have brought up, is not, nor was it ever Catholic doctrine. But it was taught by some Catholics who didn't know what the heck they were talking about.
If you really want to bash the church, you should really try to understand what it is you are bashing. Of course, Slashdot posters spout off incompressible nonsensical gibberish on any topic as if they were experts, so why should Religion be any different?
I think the word Pious is being used incorrectly. Pious is not a synonym for those with religious beliefs. Plus, with the great variance in beliefs even with in Christianity ( to say nothing of any other religion), its hard to generalize anymore than the summary.
There are some Christians that believe they are saved, and cannot lose their salvation regardless of what they do. There are also those that believe it isn't set in stone and their whole life will be judged. So it would be surprising if they were all believers of the first type, but not at all if they were believers of the second type.
What is the difference between speculative fiction, and just regular non speculative fiction? The universe in which it plays out must adhere to the same rules as reality? Then, was 200 leagues under the sea speculative or not? If I write a story about a murder on the International Space Station, but adhere to the laws of physics that we understand today, is that speculative? We can basically do everything they did in Gattaca today. Is that still speculative? If so why?
yup. Money. Something of value. Weather it was a shiny sea shell, a thick animal hide, or a good tool, they had valuables. With them would come envy, greed, wants, needs, and desires.
I don't believe that's ever going to change. Nor do I think thats a very cynical view on us. Its just a part our instincts, which we can ignore or act upon.

Set a quota
but the others seem to be planned for the future, not available right now.
'worked around' is the same thing as violated as far as I'm concerned.
Exactly. That's why There were three laws to robotics. Which were still violated every now and then.

No, but its closer to the tautology than it is to a baloney sandwich. Which, for the purposes of a metaphor, isn't that bad.
Said the Shooter of Bul, as his hair shone like the clear coat of a 67 chevy in the august moon.

Anti-terrorism, scare mongering is so 2008. Economic Stimulus is the new antiTerrorism. But I can't think of a better name than Hope.
Yeah, maybe not doom. People are already upset of the minuscule chance of LHC creating a black hole. Maybe they should name it in honor of Obama who hails from the same state (Illinois).
Call it the Hope particle.
Additionally, If you do want to know specifically what the Catholic Church Teaches, The bible probably isn't the best place to look. Not because it isn't there but because it isn't summerized and presented in a nice way for modern audiences to understand. For that I would recommend The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. Which does a good job explaining everything. I'm not sure why that isn't available online somewhere for free, but there is its source document available Catechisim of the Catholic Church Which is easier than the bible but a little light on the layman's explanations at points.
