It seems pretty lame that they're adding this sort of thing now, at the end of the development cycle where it probably can't be integrated into the game properly.
A working physics engine was implemented already in the year-old alpha.
I think the guy who wrote the article is exaggerating matters - probably, id are pimping these features to confirm that they're there, not because it's the most recent addition.
Agreed. My experience with Psyco is that a 100% speedup is the WORST case. On average, code seems to run about 4x faster!
I really hope Psyco gets implemented in the standard interpreter (or at least in the standard library) soon. There are some bugs and issues with it, but they don't look like they can't be fixed...
I am very familiar with your problem, and the thing I'd recommend is getting a decent amount of physical exercise. I always find it easier to concentrate on schoolwork (or any other work) after 30-45 minutes of running and a shower.
The biggest problem is motivation. Often when I don't feel like working, I definitely don't feel like exercising either:)
Bob Slydell: If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door--that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh--after that I sorta space out for an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.
How about a license that's simple enough that you don't need seminars to be trained on all the subtle implications, nor an army of lawyers to ligitate the fuzzy edges?
No matter how much we want to, we can't replace bureaucracy with common sense as long as bureaucracy is in power and some people remain unwilling to play fair.
I read in a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto that he doesn't consider video games to be art. He considers them to be products, made to entertain people and - well - make money.
He drew a comprison to opera - long ago, opera was not considered art, it was made to make money. The operas had to follow the fashion or people wouldn't pay. It's only recently that we've started considering opera to be an artform.
I use dictionary.com a lot. It's not only useful for translating words (I'm not a native English speaker) and looking up synonyms, but also has a decent scope of information about technical terms.
I know it's not lossy for 8-bit images, but my point was of course supposed to be that for images with more than 256 colors, which is where GIF saves space against PNG, it's lossy.
It can and will be raised in modifications.
Who cares about simply shooting monsters anymore?
Why don't you just RTFA. The game isn't about simply shooting monsters.

I'm looking forward to both games, but as we all know great graphics doesn't make a great game.
One word: immersion. Graphics do help a big deal in the case of a game like this.
10 years from now, I will hopefully have switched from my current OS to a then working TUNES.
:)
No idea about the hardware though, hopefully something that can play Doom 3
None of the sites linked to are valid HTML or XHTML! Shame on you!

Has the RIAA started it's "crackdown" on IRC networks?
:(
Perhaps not the RIAA, but a friend of mine got a cease-and-desist letter from the BSA (passed through his ISP) for being found sharing files over IRC.
And this is in Sweden
Everybody, start using the (open source) 7-zip instead.

Here is a much better article about coding practices. It also covers broad topics, not just C in specific.

Evidently, no hyper-advanced password system in the world can save you from a good old-fashioned Slashdot DDoS attack.

What quality setting would that file've been encoded with?
Man I can't wait to see how many people end up in jail now.

Keep downloading the pop music from the Internet if you like, but do buy music like jazz in stores - it'll do musical diversity a favor.

Damnit, get your facts right! John Romero cut his hair! (scroll down)

Then there's of course Eric Weisstein's World of Science for everything related to physics, chemistry and mathematics.
Every computer should ship with Python installed.
Can't imagine a better language to start learning with. And the interactive mode is GREAT for novices.

I don't know why more people don't use PNG.
:P
Because it isn't recognized by FrontPage 3.0
