    A 500 foot run would be out of the Ethernet spec anyway. You'd get 'late collisions'.

    When somebody says something like "Thanks to ... ignorance", it should occur to you there's just a smidgen of a possibility they're being facetious. While I too have had a knife held to my throat, that's not what matters, the distinction is important to me because I consider myself a linguist, and don't need to be robbed to appreciate why the distinction is important.

    Worry not! Free dictionaries around the world are blurring the definition as we speak. Another pair of words that used to mean different things, but now mean the same thing, thanks to good old fashioned honest-to-god ignorance. See also "literally" vs. "figuratively"

    What's your opinion on Palm's version? I've had two WinMo phones, one an HTC touch (of which I believe the consensus is "crap"), and a Palm Treo 750v, which I almost grew to like.

    I managed to find a version that was very stable, but it was still a dog slow OS to use.

    The tools suck. MS doesn't have a nice widget set like Apple. You want anything pretty or intuitive that doesn't look like it's straight out of windows 2000 you either have to build it yourself or dish out and pay for a 3rd party kits (which would be fine if the pickings weren't so lean). I've dabbled with xcode and what's available for the iphone (I have a mac and itouch, just limited time to play), and what's available is a world of difference. Plus they have UI guidelines which I see as a good thing since consistency is a very important part of HCI.

    The iPhone actually uses Google Maps, FYI. 3rd Party GPS applications come with their own maps, however.

    Most importantly, you can uninstall Amarok 2.2 as well! Don't forget to delete it's huge database, too. Just like Amarok does, at random.

    I don't believe it. The last time I so much as suggested here that Amarok possibly doesn't shit gold ingots, and I got unanimously shot down in flames. What a reversal, and about time!

    Open Source is perfectly capable of producing a good UI.

    I agree, I prefer the interface in all the OSS examples you listed.
