The Hammond uses tonewheels to create the different pitches. These are wheels with different bumps on them that produce a different inductance as they spin to make different pitches. Anyway, the hammond has a "start" and a "run" switch: the "start" switch is held on to run a starter motor, just like in a car; the starter motor gets the larger motors up to speed. Then, once they were at the correct speed (which you can tell by the sound), you push the "Run" switch to the on position and that engages the main motors so that the tonewheels can be spun at a constant speed. Once everything is running, you let go of both switches and wait for the tubes to warm up. Then it can finally be played.
This Isomer of Hafnium has to be created; it does not exist in nature. This could never be a source of energy. Also, the amount of x-ray energy needed to trigger the reaction (if it is possible) is still over 5 times the energy you get out of the Hafnium reaction. The chain reaction necessary for use as an explosive is also unlikely; we're talking fast photons here instead of slow neutrons, photons that would be too fast to sustain a reaction. Overall it seems like Hafnium is a dud.
I tried to use this and I ended up with strained eyes. It seems like a good idea, but I think most people will stick to using what they are used to. It might help if they softened the colors a bit.
It is very expensive and time consuming to acquire and artistically restore historic photographs, and we wanted to share thousands of these wonderful images by placing them online for free viewing by the public without inadvertently giving away the publication rights which need to be retained to make our and other museums financially viable. If the law relating to publication of restored historic images was not in such a mess, a copyright notice would suffice, and no website user agreement would be needed. We are having a bit of fun, but also need this to function as an effective agreement.
So it seems that they realize their Terms of Service are completely ridiculous, but they also intend for it to be funtional as well. Basically, they can't find any other way of accomplishing what they want to accomplish with their TOS, and so unwillingly they must use their current monstrosity...
The pictures that have been released were taken by Spirit's Nav Cam, and at only 1/4th of the Nav Cam's maximum resolution. Remember, we weren't even expecting images at all yet. We were only able to take these because we only had a relatively small amount of time to transmit data (at 24 megabits per second). Larger images and color images from the Pan Cam will be coming by evening when Spirit's high gain antenna is directly in line with Earth. Then we'll have the bandwidth for the higer resolution (3 times the maximum resoultion of the Nav Cam, 12 times higher resolution than what we've seen so far) color images that the Pan Cam is capable of taking. It will probably take a few days to get an accurate full color panorama of the landing site.
The only thing different about this that I can see is that this will be the first aerospike engine using liquid propellants to power a rocket in flight.
I don't feel too much pity for the victim of a robbery if they left their door open. I don't see why this is too much different. I doubt he really had to do much "hacking" at all to do what he did. Is it breaking and entering if you just wander into a building with an open door? Of course, whether your door is locked or not, it's still illegal to steal. However, he didn't take anything. So if he didn't break into anything, and he didn't steal anything, trespassing is all that's left, and that would imply that where you are on the internet can be considered your real location as well as where you physically are. It seems as if these people are afraid of technology, and by extension, afraid of those who know how to use it to their advantage.
I haven't done nearly as much as I can to up the score yet, I'm sure I'm capable of breaking 5000. As it stands, my score is 4903. Here is a compare link for all those interested.
I honestly believe that nVidia is just disappointed that their card performs so poorly in 3DMark03, and it's probably more of a problem on nVidia's side then on Futuremark's side. FM spent a lot of time working on this benchmark, and from everything that I've seen officially stated, the benchmark should be an accurate representation of future games. nVidia still has time to make their drivers more mature anyway...
Uh... we're not trying to make a free source of energy here, we're talking about portable energy. Did you know the factories that make batteries run on electricity too? It doesn't matter where the electricity comes from, it's being converted into a form that can be stored, and that's all that matters.

And furthermore... If DARPA had interest in this project before, how is cutting funding going to help? What, if they can't have it working the way they want it by December 20th, they don't want it at all? It's not like they have a bunch of different competing designs for a troop transport aircraft such as this one; by cutting funding for this aren't they damning themselves to never having a vehicle of this type, or is it not as practical as it seems?

Why does it always seem like it's the most worthwhile projects that are forced to come to an end by lack of funding? Who decides that these endeavors aren't important enough? Humanity in general is held back by large corporations that edge out the smaller and perhaps more innovative smaller companies (after all, you have to start somewhere, so new ideas are destined to start small). Sure would have been nice to have one of those...
What is the difference between a drug addiction and a video game addiction? I'd say most people use drugs because drugs make them feel better, they alter the chemicals in their brain. Isn't playing a MMORPG just the same thing only instead of using chemicals you are using light and sound, along with relationships to other people online to provide the same high? People who become accustomed to playing these games will go through withdrawl, and eventually they will need to game more to get the same feeling they had attained before. An addiction is an addiction, it doesn't matter to what. A drug addiction may end up being more detrimental to one's health, but that doesn't necessarily make it more important than an addiction that has the potential to ruin one's social and family life. People who truly become addicted to substances or activities are usually the people who would become very depressed otherwise. Some people will turn to drugs, others might find videogames and decide it's okay because it can't hurt them. Videogame addiction may stem from the same problems as drug addiction and should be addressed similarly.

From my own personal experience with family members, I'd say that number should be much higher.
