Tog wants the dock to be OS X- he wants it to give you lots of info, and be the virtual swiss army knife of the mac. But perhaps that is not it's purpose- it is not the center of computing on the mac and it shouldn't be- it's just a simple retrieval tool for commonly used apps.
It is not the replacement for the finder, and it is not the replacement for the apple menu. I personally do not want to see the dock become this bloated piece of crap that Tog wants it to become- that is the problem with most modern user interfaces- information overload.
I like using keyboard commands, I don't mind going into the Apple menu and clicking file and save- and I'm glad that Apple has been consistent on what the dock can and cannot do- as well as what the apple menu does like save and open documents.
Tog- use the finder more, use the apple menu more, bloat is bad.

Well I have to say that my experience with Mac's have been generally good-- and much better than those I had with Windows. I still manage to keep up with others experiences, just read through the Apples support discussions-- and think back to some of the other issues that have caused problems, like file vault, keynote, itunes, imovie nearly every app has had stability issues at one point in time.... I think if one wants to be a zealot they cant say "but macs are just stable, they never crash, everything works" (which some mac zealots do say, often conveniently forgetting their own crashes or minor issues)... if they are going to try and get people to switch they will have to start saying- yes Macs do, and sometimes have their share of issues-- but Apple has a great track record of fixing them, and has built a great foundation with OS X to facilitate trouble free computing.

I do believe I've narrowed down the majority of Kernel panics to my iSub...It is not like they didnt know the iSub existed, it just came down to priorities, and it is probably a small priority-- Apple is working with a lean amount of engineers (when compared to microsoft). I'm sure thet will fix the issues with Panther- and once they do 10.4 will just about ready to come off the presses.

Panther has been a mess for me- and I'm a pretty big Apple zealot it seems... kernel panics, exec_bad_access crashing, and I've done about 3 clean installs. There are minor issues, but there are people out there that claim apple is perfect, mac products are perfect... but just like Windows users we all have to deal with software flaws-- after all they are made by groups of human beings.

  16. Macintoshes are more stable on The Most Incorrect Assumptions In Computing? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Macs are just more stable and therefore better-- If anyone has used Panther they know that is not the whole truth. Upgrading to Panther has caused pain to many users leaving forcing them to either do a clean install or an archive and install (both being hassles for some), Or rendering some macs totally useless.
Another example would be the quote "Apple's-- they just work". How many minor updates have hosed people's systems since OS X has come out, what about Keynote 1.0 causing kernel panics, all the former issues with iTunes, Safari, and all the other apps out there.
So yes, I do use a Mac, and I do like it-- but it's time everyone knows the truth-- Mac's have many problems too, especially if you use new software... the bugs get worked out eventually, but usually at the users expense.

Microsoft forces you to update your computer through Windows Update---they don't give you a manual, and they don't put it in a box...
No wonder they can't get anyone to use Windows Update-- If they would only box their updates and charge 129$ for them this whole trojan/virus issue would be over.

It seems to work, Dell does seem sell their crap-puters probably because they can get their PCs looking cheaper in a standard configuration by cheaping out on the Hard Drive, Ram, video-card, or optical drive.
The most simple consumer thinks... "Dell seems popular, it's cheap so i'll buy it"....you are probably thinking i'm a bitter mac user, but I'm not-- I just hate those Dell ads.

I think the article was well thought out and honest.
I think that Apple believes that the iTunes music store for Windows will be extremely successful because Windows has more market share and it just seems logical that: more users = more purchases.
There was a market research study by Nielsen/NetRatings, that stated Apple users are more likely to buy stuff off the web or buy into webservices-- which really just stems from macs being pricier machines and hence most of the people buying them can afford to waste some cash. I think that we will see the implications of that study with the Windows iTMS.
Combined with some of the points in the article, and the fact Mac users are willing to throw their cash at almost anything Apple asks them to.... Ultimately, WiTMS music sales will less than stellar. I for one will not be surprised to hear that they sell more music to Mac heads.
