unfortunately that will be the same day that we have rfid tags sewn into our skin and have the government send out robot cops to arrest when we say words like "terrorist" or "nazi" or "freedom"

Lowering cost by itself doesn't mean anything for Sun's bottom line.

Educate me on this...I'm not sure how this works. If they open source Java under the GPL then are they still able to liscense Java to other companies? Sure they can offer an enterprise support package...but can they mandate it? If not...then they lose revenue from Java.

And did I read that properly? .... That Java is leveling out the playing field with C#? Didn't Java have like a 8 year head start on C#?

  4. Not always about defeating MS on Mono and dotGnu: What's the Point? · · Score: 1

There ARE reasons to develop projects on a non-microsoft platform...other than defeating microsoft's monopoly. An alternative to .NET doesn't have to be about that. It's about choices and flexibility. Mono may always (or not) be a few steps behind .NET .... but that by no means makes it useless. .NET and Mono will still have applications best suited for them. Cost, features, security, ect...all play a role and one or both of these technologies will be a good candidate for the job at hand.

I watched Darl's presentation at Harvard in its entirety last night. He (and the CIO at SCO) dodged so many of the questions it was getting boring. Namely Linus' claim of remembering two write 2 of the 70 header files submitted as "infriging" by SCO.

You'd think that after hearing a CEO of a company speak...I'd at least give more validity to their claims. But after hearing Darl...it felt like he was struggling to stay afloat.

Poor choice of words ;) Stop working for someone else. Find partners. Find investors. Find a way that you can make a business work. It's exhilirating and fascinating. And you won't go back once you are free. contradicts You are not my audience. Your original post sounded to me like a general blanket statement not intended for anyone in particular...but for anyone reading. Nonetheless, it's good that you found something fun and exhilarating.

India's government and police don't work on much of a checks and balances system. So they can do whatever they want really. Last time I went to india I had to pay an extra $100 cash because I was taking in electronics and the customs police knew I was from the US. I didn't have an option of going to a supervisor...because the supervisor was in on a cut of the $100.

    i hate those guys!

if only EVERY venue had a box office that sold tickets.
